Well, they are.
Both fears and phobias alike.
Because of a fear or phobia, what extra does it cost you? Money wise, or some other way?

My fears cost me money. Of course. Cause its the only thing I don't have.
Especially in electrical bills. Dad is always complaining about electrical bills. Well s**t dad, sorry I'm too terrified to sit in my own room without a light on. True story. Basements are dark and scary.
My only other fear is of people who are extremely formally dressed and act super professional and cold . . . I don't think that costs me anything. Other than a job....I mean. If I'm afraid of my disgustingly well dressed boss who's good at ordering people around... Which is weird, cause the other side of that coin is that someone extremely well dressed and professional can be really hot?? I don't know how my mind works sometimes.
And my only phobias, Autophobia and Monophobia. Well. I don't think the phobia of being alone costs anything. I mean, unless I end up paying someone to spend time with me. Then it could get rather costly.
And Autophobia costs me A LOT. For those of you unaware, this particular phobia can mean three different things, but in my case it means that I'm deathly afraid of becoming egotistical. I hate the thought of having an ego when it comes to anything, really. So, it costs me good grades, money and people. Since I get bad grades so that I don't brag about those, I do a mediocre job at working, and I often come off as pathetic and low in self esteem to some people.
So yea. What do your fears and phobias cost you?

Ephynas Puggle My only other fear is of people who are extremely formally dressed and act super professional and cold . . . Ephynas Puggle If I'm afraid of my disgustingly well dressed boss who's good at ordering people around... Are you afraid of Matasoga? Ephynas Puggle Which is weird, cause the other side of that coin is that someone extremely well dressed and professional can be really hot?? I don't know how my mind works sometimes. It's not difficult for intimidation and arousal to coexist in the minds of most women. In fact, on average, a man who possesses no intimidation is less likely to be attractive than a man who possesses an amount that is considerably higher, so long as it doesn't cause the woman in question to fear for her bodily well-being.

I don't think I have any true phobias, due to the proper definition. I have yet to find something that makes me paralyzed with fear, that is irrational and unable to be gotten over. My fears, though, are hurting someone without ever knowing and being able to apologize, and dying alone. I don't want to ever go through those situations.

i'm afraid of elevators and hot iron/curlers.
elevator's has cost me nothing more than my breath when i decide to take 5 flights of stairs rather than the elevator. Bad part's when I beat the elevator to the floor though ;P. So honestly the elevator fear has helped rather than cost me.
As to hot irons and hot curlers, you get burned enough times and you'll hate em too! This fear stems from my hatred of burns. It's cause they're the worst kinda injury I've ever had(and ive broken bones)

My fear of heights (which more logically is a fear of falling. heights aren't scary it's falling from said height and become sidewalk splayed is scary) has cost me many trips to amusement parks. The space needle scared the s**t out of me when I was in Seattle.

I'm not sure that I have any real phobias, just average fears, some of which aren't rational. Centipedes and millipedes scare the living daylights out of me, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a phobia.

I think it would be considered part of it. Depends if it's standing atop them or looking up/down darkened ones, or... Somehow just the shape. But it sounds like it's more the element of being high up.
