frog_mage Qyp Amos5? What the crap is Amos5? Amos is a book of the bible, in the old testament, between Joel and Obadiah[sp?]. The person I was talking to, used that verse to say, God hates religion and religious holidays. Personally, I think it was taken out of context I'd have to agree. In the OT when YHVH says something like that it's usually because the Israelites are doing it half-hearted, legalistically; or because they are doing their festivals along side with worshiping other gods and trying to make up with YHVH while worshiping other gods.

I always hear the quote "It is better to cast your seed into the belly of a whore than on the ground." being attributed to the Bible, but I'm fairly certain that quote doesn't exist in the Bible.
And if it does...where all the hoes at? emotion_awesome

Ontological Empiricism I always hear the quote "It is better to cast your seed into the belly of a whore than on the ground." being attributed to the Bible, but I'm fairly certain that quote doesn't exist in the Bible. And if it does...where all the hoes at? emotion_awesome It is one that is taken out of context... Genesis 38:7-10 Quote: 7And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him. 8And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. 9And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. 10And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also. A common practice of that day was to marry the brother of your husband, if your husband died. The person said, he would rather drop his semen on the ground than, make his brother's widow pregnant with his child. Personally, I think it is meaning more to the sentiment that Onan followed his brother's sins and was just having sex for fun... than he just refused to impregnate his new wife. I think it is more of a story, spanning from the need for offspring at the time.

rmcdra What non-existent Bible verse have you ever heard quoted? One of the non-existent quotes I hear quite frequently is "God helps them who helps themselves." This is found NO WHERE in the Bible. In fact, it's antithetical to the Old Testament, New Testament, and Gnostic scriptures. So share your non-existent Bible quotes. "Pride goes before a fall" is one that many people say. But the actual verse says "Pride goeth before DESTRUCTION, and an haughty spirit before a fall." Prov 16:18 ...big difference. sweatdrop

Isiah 6:1-8 give another description. Michael and Gabriel are the only ones specifically singled out in the Bible. You have a nameless angel in Genesis that carries a flaming sword. Of what descriptions there are of angels, they seem to something that you'd be terrified to see. 2 Enoch, one of the texts not included in the Bible, goes into the most description concerning angels. Elta had a thread on this subject. You know I haven't seen Elta in a while. I hope her trip is going well.

I was just wondering, if they are what we depicted them to be in say the movies, pictures, and the media. But the only think I have seen on them was in Rev. When it talks about Micheal... As for Elta, I haven't seen her on Gaia for some time, though I have seen her post things on Facebook, monday in fact. Her last post was about storms, so I wonder if her power went out or she lost internet because of it. Edit Also, I remember she was in the middle moving and finding a new place to live. So maybe, she is still working on that

When it talks about Micheal... That's the way the Renaissance artists depicted them. They took a lot of artistic liberties. If we were to go off of the biblical depictions of angels, they're pretty creepy and scary looking. I don't mind giving my facebook thing out to those who asks, but I don't like to ask, "Do you have a facebook account?"
