okay, self. decide what self pairs are a thing.

because plots:
Hodari x Shirin - Shirin (Giza/Kili bby) will fall for Roho (Jibwa/Shasha bby) and Roho's brother Hodari will step up to sire cubs so the pair can have kids of their own. Shirin is a healer-type maybe?? They could join Nil'nocere??
Qalb-az-Khorshid x Psyche - Psyche goes on Foray with intention of rogue-breeding, and deliberately selects someone of 'borderline' coloration like her. Gets along pretty well with him, suggests he should come and visit months down the line to see his cubs...but surprise, there have been no cubs. Helpful to a fault, he offers to join so they can try again.
Jackal x Siyarin - well, duh.
Tshole x Safi'ubele - both been lonely too long.

because bloodline monster:
Sahih x Nallant-Seregnen
Nekhet-mi-ta x Ahl-e-Safa
results of the above will then breed

are technically couples, would like to breed them (again)
Tultulana x Mashriqain - PL, one previous breeding
Ngao x Shinda - PL
Bayana x Sarhna - Mwezi
Tamaa-pomoka x Imn-Akhu - Rogue

MAYBE because they've been single for so long and need something:
Amavasya: Kuat?
Tordne: nameless pale dude who tried to usurp BL?
Sidra: Kizamaji? Inkosana?
Asante: something unconventional or no?
Agni-hotra: Tezi? After Hewa dies?

They had a new friend!!  A wonderful, new, extra friend!  Sona-sugandh had simply been minding her own business - really! - not doing much of anything, not even looking for a new friend, oh no.  Not actively, anyway.  But then she had felt it, the pull of a cub wishing for better, needing better!  All alone and scared out in the big wide world, and much much much too soon for that.  It was awful!  Terrible!  Who would leave a defenseless little cub all alone like that, where no end of horrible things could happen to it?  Why, if Sona hadn't found it, it might have died!  Terrible, just terrible.  It made her very upset, deeply so, and angry!  Oh, so mad she wanted to stomp her feet and yell about it!

But there was no one to yell at, and even if it was awful for someone to just abandon a cub like that (or, almost as horrible a thought, kill its mother and leave it behind to die too), it did mean that Sona had a new friend all her own, so she couldn't be too mad.  Not with delightful, adorable, perfect little purple Kupotea to play with.  Umngane and Umshomi were fine and all, and certainly lots of fun, but it was good to have new friends!  There was no such thing as too many friends; more importantly, for Sona-sugandh, there was no such thing as enough friends.  Whether she had three, or ten, or twenty, she would always want and need more, especially since her friends were constantly committing the terrible crime of growing up on her.  Every day they got a little bit older, until the time came when they weren't cubs at all anymore.  Some of them were still fin through their adolescence, but once real adulthood hit...

It was awful.  Why did friends grow up?  It wasn't fair!  The goddess desperately wished that, like her, they didn't really have to.  She could make some of them young again, but she didn't have enough power to keep all of them that way, and even when she did, sometimes they were...different.  So, for the most part, she just let them go.  And then she went looking for more new friends!  That made it less sad.

Kupotea was a very good new friend, just absolutely a treat, but Sona needed more...more to the point, Kupotea needed more!  They needed a bigger family, yes, that was exactly what they needed, and so Sona had left her little pack of playmates to find them some new ones.  She'd ended up somewhere with a lot of cubs.  Just...just so many cubs!  If it hadn't been for all the adults around, it would have been paradise.  As it was, she had to be very careful not to be found out not to belong, so she'd disguised herself as another cub to play with the rest.  It was much stealthier than going about as someone bigger, and who could really be suspicious of a cub?

In its own way, being disguised was fun, too!  But she was having so much fun, in fact, that she got quite sidetracked and very nearly forgot why she had come here in the first place, and didn't remember until the sun began to set and her playmates for the day had to go sleep.  How boring!  This also presented a problem for her disguise, since a lone cub wandering about in the dark would be sure to attract attention, and so she'd had to make herself invisible.  She'd come to find a friend to take home, and now that she'd had her playdate, that was just what she was going to do.

The only trouble was that all of the new friends she'd made were happy and well taken care of by their families.  Sona couldn't take happy cubs, no!  That would be mean, especially when there were unhappy cubs.  Just...none here, apparently.  If there were no unhappy cubs, well then, she would have to make do with something else!  She needed someone to make happy, and in this relative sea of lions, there had to be someone who needed that.  She crept around for what felt like hours and hours, and spotted no few candidates - there were at least as many very old lions around here as there were cubs!  She could work with that, yes...surely no one liked being old, after all, and would appreciate being not old!

While she pinpointed quite a few likely candidates, however, she could only choose one today. If she wanted another, she'd have to come back another time! The deciding factor, then, was that...that she eenie-meenied it, because she couldn't decide on her own. Once it was done, though, she was quite pleased. Surely she would make an ideal friend for her! (And Kupotea and Umngane and Umshomi, of course.) Yes, yes, she would do quite nicely, and was also very conveniently asleep. Hopefully she would stay asleep, and she could carry her off before she woke up, and no one would ever be the wiser!

And she, of course, would have no idea that anything at all had happened to her, or that she'd ever been anywhere but with her and the rest of their family. No idea that she'd once been a sleek and elegant lioness, or lived in such an enormous pride, or ever been old or tired or whatever else she was in this moment. Sona had to rein in her excitement and keep from bouncing once she'd made up her mind, and summoned her power to make her what she wanted: a cub. Still the same brownish lioness, more or less, but as she'd been before he'd grown up, which she was sure had been a very long time ago. Before she'd even been born!

But it didn't matter now. Thanks to her, she was young again, a perfect little cub destined for nothing but happiness. The goddess scooped her up and disappeared, spiriting hee away to a new life.

((ICly she's probably had Kupotea for months by this point, but Sona has a very screwy sense of time. What's 6 months when you're having fun?!))

That's Not Natural...
a random event generator!

This is an optional random event generator for anyone RPing in rogue lands! One player in each RP should roll a 1d20, and they and the other players will then to react to what happens! In some cases, each character will go on to roll a 1d4 to determine exactly what happens.

As with other meta shenanigans, it remains up to pride owners whether or not they want anything happening in their lands. If a pride owner wishes, they can allow this same event generator to be used in pridal lands. Please be courteous and allow pride owners to decide for themselves; do not try to pressure them into instituting this.

Quote:
1. Small rocks fall from the sky!  Each character must roll a 1d4.
  1. You get hit right on the head and are knocked unconscious!  You'll be left with a gash at the very least, if not a cracked skull.
  2. You take a direct hit, but at least it's not to the head!  The rock leaves a good gash, and could crack bone depending on where it hit.
  3. Just a glancing blow, you get by with barely a scratch.
  4. Today's you're lucky day, and you're not hit at all.

2. Just a nice, normal day!  At least until it's suddenly not day anymore.  It's as dark as night out here!
3. Who doesn't love a good monsoon?  In a matter of a moments, clear skies are replaced by dark clouds, torrential rain, and accompanying thunder and lightning.
4. It really is just a normal day!  Nothing out of the ordinary here.
5. That crackling green mass of light just hanging there can't be a good thing...anyone brave(?) enough to touch it rolls a 1d4.
  1. Congratulations!  You're zapped forward in time, and next thing you know, it's two weeks later. (Other RP participants just see this character disappear and assume them missing/dead.)
  2. Yikes!  You get a good, painful shock.  Enjoy dizzy spells and heart palpitations for a week.
  3. Whoa!  Where'd everybody go?  Where are you?!  You've been zapped 1-10 miles away (but are still within unclaimed territories - no dropping uninvited on pridal lands!).  I...hope you weren't too near the ocean. (Other RP participants just see this character disappear and assume them missing or dead until/unless they catch up with them.  If multiple characters roll this, they appear in different places.)
  4. You get such a bad shock that you black out, and after you wake, are prone to dizzy spells and heart palpitations for a few weeks.
    6. Hello, sinkhole!  Each character should roll a 1d4: odd numbers are going down, even numbers are safe and get to help their friend(s).  Or, you know, just leave them.  Whichever.
    7. Is that a...tornado?  A little lion-sized one?  Maybe uh...maybe stay away from that.  Or not, and get picked up and thrown several feet, and have fun with the scrapes and bruises and possible broken bones.
    8. Aww, what cute little will-o-the-wisps!  They drift and dance around, but evade any attempts to touch them, and eventually fade away.
    9. Is that...singing?  It's impossible to make out the words or find the source, but it's damn creepy.
    10. It's raining frogs!  Gross.
    11. Oh, did you think you were in Africa?  A little hot for you?  Here, have a 20-minute blizzard, that should cool you right off.
    12. Earthquake!  It's minor, little more than a tremor, but still. It totally counts.
    13. The wind kicks up, and a dark, eerie fog blows in.  You're separated from your companions within seconds, and can't see them anywhere...all participants roll a 1d4. (The fog and its effects will last about half an hour.)
    1. Something isn't right about this fog!  It becomes difficult to breathe, and after several minutes of struggling and coughing, you black out, and won't be found until after the fog dissipates.
    2. You see two shapes fighting in the fog.  Is someone in trouble?!  Try as you might, you can't reach them.
    3. You trip over something and look down to see the lifeless body of one of your companions. (Note: this is a hallucination, but your character won't know that until the fog dissipates.)
    4. You could swear you see someone you knew who passed away, and they look like they want you to follow them, but no matter how fast you run, they're just out of reach.

    14. Nothing strange here, enjoy your boring old day with your boring old friend(s).
    15. It's raining!  Creepy, red, disturbingly blood-like rain.  Great.
    16. Hailstorm!  If you get hit with a big enough chunk, it could really hurt, or even knock you out.
    17. Weren't you just here, like, twenty minutes ago?  You've somehow looped back around, or else this is some really weird deja vu.
    18. A whole flock of birds drops out of the sky, all dead.  That...can't be good.
    19. You come across a circle of land, fifty feet in diameter, where all the vegetation is dead and black, and several prey animals lie rotting within. I hope you weren't hungry.
    20. Players' choice! Discuss with your fellow RPers and choose which of the above situations you want to play.

She rolled the cub between her paws like it was a pudgy little ball, gently batting him from one to the other with an inscrutable expression on her face.  Little peeps of delight followed every time he bumped into one paw only to be nudged back over to the other.  If she was too slow to roll him again, he would wobble onto his fat little feet just to stagger over and bump against her leg, determined to continue the game himself if he had to.

"Which one is this again?" Aharu asked, bemused, and scooted him across the floor of the cave again.

Yehl came over to glance at the cub her mother was entertaining while the rest slept, pressing her own paw down on him to keep him still long enough that she could get a look at his eyes.  Another happy peep chirped its way out of him, and he nommed harmlessly at her toes with the nubs of teeth he had just coming in. "Kalagca."

Aharu made a wordless sound in response to her daughter's answer, and once she'd removed her paw, returned to rolling him back and forth.  After awhile, she spoke again, "I thought you didn't want anyone raising kids in the Guild.  Something about not being able to trust them to keep their mouths shut?"

Cue Kalagca turning his not-teeth on her paw, which, despite being too large for him to fit in his mouth, didn't stop him from trying.  She wiggled it gently back and forth as he made an 'rrrrr' noise and did his very best to be ferocious.  It was, of course, an underwhelming attempt, since he was nothing more than a ball of fuzz and baby fat.

Yehl just shrugged. "They're orphans.  The hell else am I supposed to do with them?"

"Some people would have just left them."

Yehl snorted. "Bullshit.  You wouldn't have left them, either, and you know it."

"Maybe, maybe not." Aharu tumbled the cub away from herself this time, providing just enough momentum for him to roll across the floor and into the cavern wall.  Now upside-down, he blinked wide pink eyes at her and let out another peep. "Still, you didn't have to keep them.  You could have given them to someone."

The mask-marked lioness rolled her eyes. "Yeah, I'll just tote four cubs around until I find someone, somewhere, who wants them.  That'll end well, for sure."

"Hey, I'm just saying.  There were options." The goddess watched as the cub righted himself with great effort, and started to work his way back to her in a dizzied, zig-zag bumble.

"Yeah, well I made the rules.  I can damn well break them if I want to."

"Careful with that.  Break them too often, make too many exceptions for yourself, and you'll lose credibility as a leader.  You'll lose loyalty."

"We're thieves, mother." Yehl rolled her eyes a second time and flopped bonelessly onto the ground. "Credibility and loyalty aren't really our strong points."

"Maybe not, but you'll never hold an organization together just on liking to steal other people's s**t and lie." The cub had finally worked its way back over, and made an unsuccessful attempt to pounce on her paw.  It missed completely and fell over, and had to flail to get itself upright again. "That's fine enough for the people under you, but you need to watch yourself."

"Yeah, yeah, I get it," Yehl groaned, rolling over onto her back. "What's with the lecture, anyway?  It's just some cubs."

"It's not about the cubs." She caught Kalagca on his next attempted pounce and bumped him into the pile of his napping siblings, which caused a chorus of peeps. "It's about you saying you can break whatever rules you want.  I get making the exception this time, and this isn't a particularly dangerous one to make.  Most of your people will understand.  But you'd better watch about being so cavalier about breaking other rules that don't tug the heartstrings."

The lioness grunted, and watched through narrowed eyes to see whether or not the entire pile of cubs would wake up.  They were in luck, however, and after some peeping and wriggling, Kalagca had been assimilated back into the pile of mostly identical cubs.  The lone girl of the four was definitely the odd one out, and not just because she was a girl. "And what will happen if I am, hmm? My sprawling kingdom of thieves will crumble from underneath my feet? Please. There's barely even a couple dozen of us, and I doubt anyone cares that much."

"But they could." Honestly, for someone who was naturally inclined to cleverness, who'd been raised to think, her daughter could sometimes be frustratingly obtuse. But she had always enjoyed being contrary and testing her patience and so Aharu shouldn't have been at all surprised. "It may not be much now, but given time and a solid foundation, it could be. You laugh now about a 'kingdom,' but it's not outside the realm of possibility. Not if you play it right."

"And you think I might not be playing it right, is that it?" Yehl shifted her gaze away from her mother and the little pile of cubs with a stubborn huff.

"Not as well as you could be. Not if you start flouting your rules." Unable to leave well enough alone, Aharu prodded at the pile of cubs, wondering if there was any discernible difference between the boys aside from eye color. "You may be a leader of thieves, but you're still a leader. You need to learn to act like one."

"I do just fine," Yehl asserted, rolling over to glare at the wall rather than look at her mother. "How else do you think we got the people we have?"

"You need to learn to act like a leader all the time, not just when you feel like it. You're a good thief, sure, probably better than any other mortal, especially since I gave you that feather. But what if I give one to someone else, or someone takes it? Maybe Kalagca, even." She delicately pried the cub from the pile, reclaiming her current favorite 'toy.' "It's not good enough just to be the best."

"I'll take it under advisement," Yehl rumbled grudgingly, signaling that she was well and truly over this conversation. Glancing back at her mother again, she scowled. "Could you maybe not roll him around like a rock? You're gonna addle the poor thing, doing that."

Wordlessly, Aharu'kai rolled the cub back into the pile...and rolled another one out of it, starting all over again.
