Thank you for posting smile I haven't really gotten into gospel music or contemporary Christian music in the past, but now a days I'm more open the idea because it's a form of praise and I haven't listened to many of these Christian bands before. Hopefully one day I'll be able to look at all the ones posted smile

I won't lie: most modern "Christian music" really doesn't do much for me. Most of it just sounds like really generic rock with Christian-themed lyrics, and since I can hardly ever understand lyrics in songs, I'm just left hearing generic-sounding music, which isn't terribly uplifting or inspirational to me.
I'll try to keep an open mind and check out some of the titles and artists you guys have suggested.
Here's some music that I do like, though. Most of it is instrumental, so it can really be enjoyed by people of all creeds!
Explosions in the Sky (They're either American or Canadian) - their whole album "How Strange, Innocence" is absolutely lovely, especially the first track "Song for our Fathers."
God is an Astronaut (Irish) - I really love their whole first album, "The End of the Beginning," but probably my two favourites of theirs are on their self-titled album. The titles of those songs are "Zodiac" and "Shores of Orion."
Godspeed You! Black Emperor (Canadian) - all their stuff is really interesting, but I'd recommend the album "A# F# Infinity," and especially the song "East Hastings."
A Silver Mt. Zion (Canadian) - This band is sort of a side project of the main songwriter for Godspeed and has a lot of the same band members, but they have a different sound. They're first album, "He Has Left Us Alone, But Shafts of Light Still Grace the Corners of the Room," is excellent. My favourite tracks from that are probably "Sit in the Middle of Three Galloping Dog," "Movie (Never Made)," and "13 Angels Standing Guard 'Round the Side of Your Bed."
Mono (Japanese) - I don't think they've ever done anything I didn't like. Some of my favourite songs of theirs are "A Thousand Paper Cranes," "Lost Snow," "Karelia," and "Where am I."
Again, none of this music is specifically "Christian," but one of the beautiful things about music is that it can be universal, and enjoyed by people from all over the world with different backgrounds and different beliefs and speak different languages, yet often we can all enjoy some of the same music, and I believe all beautiful music is a gift from God. Beethoven himself referred to composers as prophets of their day, believing music to be the voice of God. Now, Beethoven was also incredibly arrogant, so it sort of goes to reason that he thought that his music was the very voice of God Himself, but I do believe, due to my own personal experiences, that God can indeed speak to us through music.
I remember something my father told me when I was very young. I think we were on our way home from Mass, and I asked my dad why God didn't just speak to everyone, in plain language, about the path He had laid out for them. I think I also said that that way there would be no non-believers, if God would just have a chat with them directly. (I couldn't have been older than seven when this happened.) My father told me that it was because our human ears could not comprehend God's voice. He told me to think of the most beautiful piece of music I'd ever heard, and then told me that God's voice was a thousand times more beautiful than that, and that such was its beauty that it would break our fragile, mortal hearts if we ever heard it here on Earth. He told me that it was because of this that God had to find other ways to speak to us and show us our paths. He told me that God's voice was everywhere, and that one of our tasks as His children was to learn how to listen for it, and how to hear it in our times of need. I'm not really sure why that memory popped into my head, but I thought I'd share it.
Sorry, I'm a musician profesionally, so I can wax poetic about music all day if somebody let me, so I'm just going to stop myself there, lol.
Anyway, I'll check out some of the stuff that's been listed here by others, and I hope at least someone might give some of my suggestions a chance. You can listen to all or most of them for free on youtube.
Sorry for the long post. I got a little carried away. I just love being able to share and talk about music. smile

I grew up listening to a lot of modern Christian music, like Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, etc.
I'm not a fan of it anymore, though. I haven't listened to those kinds of artists in a long time. I don't even really like the sound of the more alternative/rock Christian bands. Ah well.
One group I do like, though, are The Psalters. They have a very interesting sound to them. They're kind of anarchist, but very peaceful anarchist. lol
As well, they are Catholic. So... I suppose if you don't like a band to be Catholic, then you might not want to listen to them. It doesn't bother me any, because I love the messages in their songs, and many of their songs are scripture.
Another band I like is Aradhna. It's led by an American who went to India and decided to sing the gospel by mixing some traditional instruments and sounds from the West and the East. Their music is beautiful, but most of it is in Hindi as to project the gospel to those who don't speak English. They do have their lyrics in English on their website, though.
I also like most chant music, especially Gothic chant. It's so beautiful sounding to me. Along with a lot of Latin pieces.
