STARTING STAGE : Outsider
DESIRED JOB LOCATION: Florist
JOB TYPE:
Employed stage: Floral assistant. He will man the counter, arrange displays by instruction, and help tend to the stock under the supervision of the florist. He'll know his way around the store, but not be involved in as much care of the flowers as he will be customer service and simple floral arrangements. He will bag seeds and recommend different varieties to the customers depending on the season, as well as be familiar with the tools of the trade necessary to get a garden growing and happy.
Townfolk stage: Florist. While he may still be involved in customer service and floral arrangements, he'll be more knowledgeable and able to tend to the flowers on his own now. He'll be able to run shifts by himself with full responsibility, and have more say in the input/output, the planting, and the tending of the flowers. At this stage, he will make his own seed bag blends, and possibly begin to experiment with hybridization of flowers to create new blooms.
BRIEF HISTORY: Aside from an incident with a dog, Miles had a very normal, loving childhood. He has three older sisters very close to him in age, and he loves them even when he wants to send them to the moon, which he figures is pretty normal as far as brothers and sisters go. Being the baby of the family, he was often subjected to his sisters' whims when it came to playing games, so he is a man well versed in House, Four Square, and Ponies. He has also been the reluctant groom of approximately seven thousand and fifteen weddings. (It's enough to put a man off the idea for life.)
However, he does enjoy romance and the stability and comfort of a relationship. Miles is the type who will settle into a long-term relationship and simply ride it out -- he doesn't really do flings or hook-ups -- so while he gravitates toward long-term, he tends to not get into a relationship unless he thinks it can reasonably last. He is, as he will cheerfully tell anyone who asks, a serial monogamist.
Miles' phobia of dogs is the result of an incident in his early childhood. He was attacked by a neighbor's dog when he was about seven years old; though they're faded now, he still has scars on his right leg from where the dog bit and gnashed at him before his father was able to chase it off. He was briefly hospitalized and required stitches, marking this as the overall most traumatic event of his childhood. His phobia is not something that he is going to get over easily, or even necessarily something that he wants to confront; he would have to trust someone a great deal to even consider the idea of letting them help him, and to date, he simply hasn't trusted anyone enough. He certainly isn't going to attempt it on his own, as being in close proximity of a dog still makes him break into a cold sweat.

HAIR STYLE : Short and a little shaggy, though this is probably because he just doesn't really think about keeping it trimmed up regularly. He pays most attention to his bangs, as he doesn't like them getting in his eyes -- otherwise, the layers tend to grow out a little around his head.
HAIR COLOR : A nice, woodsy brown.
EYE COLOR : Bright and vibrant blue. Definitely his most striking feature.
SKIN COLOR AND TONE : A bit tanned, no doubt due to all the time he spends outside.
BODY TYPE : Skinny as a bean pole and looking like he's constantly in the middle of a growth spurt. Alas, Miles, for you are finished growing.
HEIGHT: 6'
OTHER FEATURES : Beauty mark under his left eye. (I think -- I can't tell from this distance, but I'm pretty sure it's really there and not just a speck on my laptop. xD) Scarring on his leg, mentioned elsewhere -- the result of an attack by a dog when he was young.
CLOTHES : Miles goes for comfort! He likes slip on shoes, jeans, and tee shirts, and if the weather permits, he'll generally pull on a big, thick sweater and call it good. When it's warm out, usually just jeans and tee shirts.

PERSONALITY: THE VIRTUES :
Hard Working: You can work Miles like a pack horse and he is basically okay with it. He likes having things to do with his hands, and thinks best when he's occupied, so he welcomes hard work. He takes a great deal of pride in seeing something that he's worked on come together, and lives by the philosophy that things have to get done whether everyone wants to pull their own weight or not, so he might as well pick up the slack if it's there. If something has his name attached to it, he wants it to reflect who he is as a person: that is, he wants it to be well-rounded, thoughtfully constructed, and have a steady foundation. You won't hear him complain about putting in the hours, because hey, man, Rome wasn't built in a day.
Honorable: There's a reason Miles got called Boy Scout while he was in school. You can trust him, period. He doesn't lie, cheat, steal, or swindle if he can help it, and if it does so happen that he's slipped up somewhere, he'll be the first one to come around and admit that he's been wrong. He was raised with strong family values and very decided ideas on how you treat people, and he holds himself to a very high personal standard. He lives by the Golden Rule, as childish as some people find that, and makes no apologies for it. He's just a nice, honest, hard-working guy, which he thinks everyone should aspire to be, really.
Caring: The man has three older sisters. He has borne witness to a lot of crying jags, raging about men, and has probably heard every complaint in the book when it comes to masculine insensitivity. Being uniquely positioned as he has been, he took note of the complaints that his sisters most often raised about men, and he learned from them. He is that guy who will sit down and let you rage for hours about your dumb ex-boyfriend because he knows it's going to make you feel better. He'll do what he can to help, whether helping is listening or rubbing your back or pushing up his sleeves and moving furniture around. He sincerely likes people and he wants to see them happy, so he'll do what he can to be a force for good in the world; he basically tries to be everyone's friend unless they give him a good reason not to be. (This is not to say that he attempts Best Buddies Forever luncheons with people, but he's the friend you can count on to always be there for you if you really need someone.)
PERSONALITY: THE FLAW :
Possessive: Miles tries to be everybody's friend, yeah, but those people whom he really considers his friends? He's possessive of them, a lot. No matter how you look at it, he models a lot of his close personal relationships after his most vivid examples -- his three older sisters -- and if his best friend has been spending time with another friend more than him, or seems to care about their opinion more, or likes them better, well... he basically acts like a jealous girlfriend. He gets very attached to people and, because they're so important to him, he wants to be just as important to them. He can get a bit catty when he feels like he's being slighted (when he's ditched for someone else, plans are broken, you go to a festival with some other dude...) and sometimes has to be taken aside and reminded that he is not Person A's only good friend. This is twice as bad when he's in a romantic relationship -- he would never cheat, and he expects anyone he's with to subscribe to the same philosophy... and emotional infidelity counts. (Get him to explain that one to you sometime.)
Blunt: As caring and honorable as he is, Miles is also blunt. He knows that sometimes, things just need to be said flat out, and people need to be held accountable for their actions. While he will get a friend through a rough time to the best of his ability, he will also be that friend who tells them where things went wrong and what they should have done better, and he's usually fairly frank about it. He believes that bad things should be delivered quickly and crisply, so while he'll treat most scenarios as efficiently as possible, he doesn't usually sugarcoat. It is what it is. At least he'll give you a back rub after he blasts you with how childish you've been.
Disorganized: You know those people who have complete organized chaos and know exactly where everything is despite it? That's... not Miles. He'll pick something up, set it down, and then not be able to find it again for days. He always tells himself to put something back exactly where he first looked for it, but he very rarely actually remembers to do that. He loves post-its -- his bedroom is covered in post-its -- and sometimes he remembers to put a date in the corner so he knows what goes with what. Mostly he keeps things in his head, which is problematic when he has a lot going on, as details get fudged. He's not really messy in that he'll have trash and laundry and God-knows-what laying around, he is just very professionally disorganized. Good luck figuring out what the hell his planting schedule is without asking him, because his notes are all over the place and he probably has them scattered through three separate notebooks. He has a system, sort of. It's just it's way easier accessed in his head, because he tends to think of things, write them down, and then just blitz off to do whatever without doing any actual organizing.
YOUR FEARS AND WEAKNESS :
Dogs: They scare the ever-loving crap out of him. It doesn't matter if it's a small dog or an enormous dog, they all scare him. He knows the little ones have sharp teeth and suspects they'd cut down to the bone if they got ahold of his ankle, and the big dogs? Yeah, visions of them knocking him to the ground and mauling him haunt his nightmares. He won't pet your dog. Not even your puppy. He will politely refuse if he is given the chance, but if a dog runs up to him? He will hide behind whoever he is with. His hands will shake. His voice will probably crack. He'll definitely be sweating a little. Miles is not just nervous around dogs, he is actually phobic of them. If he got cornered by one, he'd probably cry.
Tears: He is a man. If you cry, he will twist himself into a pretzel to make it stop. Even while he is telling you that you are being manipulative, petty, and downright unfair. The fastest way to get him to give you what you want is to cry about it -- and yeah, he'll think less of you for resorting to it, but you'll generally get what you want, at least the first time. The more the tear routine is used, though, the more likely he is to just book it.
Make it a competition: "Hey, I'll bet I can do this faster/better/harder/stronger than you." Yeah, well, Miles bets not. If his manly pride is on the line (and hey, he's a florist, let's face it -- his manly pride is on the line a lot) he'll go to sometimes ridiculous lengths to establish and defend his virility.
LIKES :
Though he sometimes resents the title, Miles could be labeled as a flower child if you really wanted to stretch things. He has a great love and appreciation of the outdoors, and most of his hobbies will carry him there: gardening, hiking, bird watching, star gazing... if he can do it outside in the open air, he likes it. He enjoys sharing his hobbies with people, but if he has to be alone, he wants it to be in nature, where he's never really alone. He likes things that make him break a sweat and keep him busy, and if he can get dirty? Well, more's the better! Nothing a good shower won't fix.
DISLIKES :
If there's one thing that is guaranteed to put Miles in a bad mood, it's trapping him indoors with some menial task that makes it impossible for him to socialize with people. While he doesn't mind doing things on his own (see likes) he prefers to have the freedom to be in the sunshine, or have the potential for someone else to come by. He's not the guy who'll curl up by the fireside with a novel, nor will he willingly take over book work and filing -- they just don't appeal to him. If it has to be done, he'll do it, but he'll probably be grumpy about it, and he's certainly going to let you know that he doesn't like it.
FAVORITE ANIMAL: Ducks! Miles loves to go down to the pond and feed the ducks. He secretly dreams of having ducklings imprint on him one day, but he won't tell anybody this because, y'know, it's kind of embarrassing.
FAVORITE COLOR: Sky blue. Which is really convenient, because when he's out gardening, he can take breaks and just lay in the grass and look at the sky until he's ready to get to work again.
SEXUALITY : Homosexual. He doesn't broadcast it to the heavens, but if he knows you well enough and you bring it up in conversation, he won't deny it. Miles just gets really tired of being stereotyped and somehow being considered less of a man because he happens to be gay -- he's not a limp-wristed, swooning male, folks. Nor does he want to be a woman. He is just sexually and romantically attracted to men, full stop.
