i use maybelline gel eyeliner. gel eyeliner will always have a special place in my heart, but if i'm in a super hurry, i'll use a marker tip.

omg we use da same thing !11

One thing that helps if I use liquid, is to do what Alyssa does. I go from middle to outside corner, and then middle to inside corner. If I put any on bottom it's just from the outside corner of my eye out to where ever I ended the top line. Kind of like how anime eyes are? I second the eyeshadow on the waterline thing. It took me forever (ok like all of highschool) to finally stop putting eyeliner on my bottom rims because I was convinced I looked awful otherwise. But now, I find the best way for me to look more awake than I am (the point of me doing makeup, lawl) is to do a really thin cateye, stick to shimmery light shadows and mascara only on the top lashes. I notice putting eyeliner and mascara on the whole eye really closes it up and makes my eyes look smaller than they are.

ALSO FOR REAL, TRY GEL.

Guise, It's okay if you don't get this the first time. This will require some practice, it took awhile for me to not get it all over my eyes. I still have to grab a q-tip sometimes and wipe off where i think the liner is a bit too thick.

I suggest
working a bit at a time. (middle out and then middle in.)
practice when you don't have to go anywhere, you'll get frustrated if you have to run out the door in like 2 seconds and you're struggling to put on eyeliner.
flat angled brushes are good for beginners, personally i use a foam tip applicator.

You can do it! It might just take some time. ( & makeup remover...) 4laugh

the only problem i have with this s**t is the obvious gap between my lashes and the liner that I can never get rid of.

I solve this by dabbing the gap with the tip of the eyeliner. I always have a gap when I am done and I just fill in the blanks with a few quick dabs.
