I just started my first month of my new oral contraceptive. It's Loestrin FE. I have never been on birth control before. My doctor said it should make my periods shorter and lighter, and since I started it the Sunday after my last period that it shouldn't change my cycle.
Well I got my period a week before the brown sugar pill deals in the last week, and this period, though it has been extremely light compared to my regular periods, it has lasted a few days longer. I was just wondering how long, or how many months it took for you guys to really balance out after starting your birth control pills.

I've read that BC usually takes about 2 months to even out. I don't know about yours specifically, though.

I think it really depends on the person because it took a year before mine got lighter and shorter. The cramps stopped almost automatically though and are now rare. And some people get their periods right after they start the sugar pills but I get it about 3-4 pills after.

My doctor said it takes most people about 2-3 months to get adjusted to bc. It took me about 2 months.

Okay cool. I did notice that I only had very little cramps on the first day, and it was more of just a little lower back pain. I usually get crazy cramps so that's nice.
So I guess I will take the sugar pills just to keep in the habit of taking a pill from the pack every day.. I just want this period to be over. Even though it's super super light, I still want it done.
Today is my last day of active pills in this pack. Woo!

I started out on Loestrin FE and that made my period stop coming for four months until I switched to the brand I'm on now, so I have no idea. Now and my periods are exactly the same as they were before taking birth control. But yes, like Lass and Enny and Yoko said, it usually takes a few months.

My period took about 3 months before it finally balanced out. I would get spotting and cramps randomly through out the month.

I'm on my first month and got my period exactly when I was supposed to. Although it is a lot more painful than my usual periods (I think because I started mid-cycle so my 'normal' period was delayed).
So yeah, depends on the person I think.
