Hey a subject recently came to my attention and I thought I'd share with you. Does anyone here have a working definition of the terms, (recon pagan and neopagan)? Someone was calling first one and then the other fluffy bunnies and I thought I'd get your opinions on the whole subject.

It seems to me that everyone who isn't 18+ and initiated into a lineaged documented Wiccan coven is not Wiccan, and are being called fluffy bunnies. I honestly don't think that is the case, but with so many people shoving it down everyone's throats instead of giving them helpful advise. I don't know what makes a Wiccan and what doesn't, but that's just what I've noticed.

I too have seen that many times, (I don't think that only lineaged wiccans are wiccans. But since I don't claim to be one I leave that battle to others) This was more aimed at all pagans not just wiccans. He complained that recon pagans thought themselves better than neo pagans.

My opinion is that with something like witchcraft you're either all fluffy or you're all not. Seriously.

People walking around in circles, playing with candles, worshiping gods, talking about magic. It all sounds absolutely absurd. So then how are we going to have one group of these people trying to be more legit than another group of these people? Pot, meet kettle. You both talk to yourselves stark-naked in the woods.

Not trying to offend anyone in particular; just trying to keep it real. I'm a practicing occultist myself but I recognize how freakin' dumb it is to argue over who is more real when it comes to this stuff. We're all just playing pretend until someone can measure it.

The point is to reach beyond the physical world. The physical can be measured, but the spiritual and emotional really can't. So many deny the non-physical world b/c they apply the standards of the physical to it. That doesn't work any better than trying to measure length w/ a scale or tempature w/ a ruler. It doesn't work, but that does not mean that leangth and tempurature do not exsist, nor that scales and rulers do not work.

None of us has all, or even most of the answers. We're all just trying to figure it out as best we can w/ what we've got. I prefer my own system of measurment and knowing that my practice needs not be quantified beyond my satisfaction w/ the results to arguing over what to call it or tools to use.

I will make the observation that those that argue over manmade labels and such are focusing very strogly on the PHYSICAL world and therefore any spiritual practice is suspect as that is not where there focus is. I'd practice w/ a focused open minded fluffy over a bragging triple "high priestess" any day.

O.o well I can't say what others believe but I have luckily never been in a circle or coven that did that. I'm a neo-pagan but I have never done any of that. Then again I follow the nature path so that might be why. For me its simply walking through the woods and appreciating life for what it is and being happy I have loved ones to share it with. I can't speak for all pagans but me myself, I prefer just to keep a cool head and smile. Yeah I might pray to the goddess or the god to thank them for the opportunities I get but I don't pray for a bunch of stuff I don't need. I don't really see why most people do but eh life is life and people are people.

People usually want more than they need. I have found that the ability to influence the Universe (magic) is directly proportional to both the belief and the real honest need of the individual.
