[ Dylan & Alan : Land of Departure : Dining Hall ]

Dylan's "smooth" lopsided grin turned into an even, small smile when he heard that the two galiants were from the same world. Having been to hardly any worlds himself, and knowing now that there were so many out there, it seemed impossible that a meeting like that would take place there at the academy, and yet... There it was!

Maybe I could meet Little John or the other kids from Nottingham! ...But then again, if they'd survived, I would have met them in Traverse Town, wouldn't I? Refusing to think of it any longer, he shook his head and decided to try to stay in the conversation. He couldn't think of many subjects to bring up, however.

"So, um... What kind of world is London? Is it big?"

[ Ginny : Land of Departure : Dining Hall ]

"London is not a world, dear boy, or at least, it doesn't know it is...we know it as a city within a larger earth! Fairly old and famous one, as well." Basil nibbled on a biscuit before continuing. "It's a city of decent size, yes, and old enough to be rather eclectic...there are theatres and clock towers and grand colleges, but also many landmarks know for being the places of crime and tragedy. Which is, of course, where people like me came in, to rid the streets of those who would do harm. I was fairly well known among the mice! Knighted, even!" Basil smiled a bit fondly at the memories, and of the honor. It sounded like he missed the place.

"After my world got taken by the dark, I managed to end up there," Ginny added. "There's no magic there, not like in a lot of other worlds. And too much stone. I would have liked farmland better." If she noticed the somewhat dirty look Basil shot her, she ignored it.

"What about you? What was your world like? Did you have magic or big cities?"

Alice had been uncertain about how to answer Dylan's question. London certainly seemed very big when she lived there, but that had been so long ago, and she couldn't say she had seen all of it.

Basil's question did not help Alice much. In fact, it confused her even more. The London he spoke of was not the one she remembered. Her London, the one she recalled visiting, had been busy with many boring places that the adults seemed to place importance on, but it had not been dangerous. she recalled, . She really did look quite troubled, but she was perfectly content with silently thinking through her troubles.

While Alice was off in her own little world, Lucius and Leora were just listening. They had on their faces the same eager expression that had been shown when Dylan taught them about harmonicas and they each focused this gaze on a different party. Leora intently watched Dylan and Alan while Lucius focused his sights and hearing on Ginny and Basil. or something like that was their general line of thought at the moment.

[ Dylan & Alan : Land of Departure : Dining Hall ]

Dylan grew wide-eyed at Basil's account of his adventures. Wow, he really is a hero! A knight, too... Fancy. He made notes of Ginny's own story, telling himself to remember to ask more curious questions, which would have to wait, since she had already asked him a question, and there was no way he would be impolite on purpose.

"Magic...? Well, no one there did the things that we can do here, I know that, at least. And Nottingham is... I think it's a pretty big town. Not much to see there for my tastes; I'd always go out to Sherwood Forest to spend time with my friends. Like Alan!" He motioned with a wave of his hand toward the rooster sitting at the other table.

"Pardon?" Alan A. Dale mused, pausing his music and glancing at his human friend. "I'm sorry, sonny, were you tryin' to talk to me?"

"Yeah, I said come over here and hang out with our new friends instead of bein' a stranger," Dylan chuckled, and Alan gave him a sigh and a shake of his head before getting up and departing their previous table, carrying his lute with him as he went, and settled down next to the group before starting up his music again.

[ Ginny : Land of Departure : Dining Hall ]

Ginny waved at the rooster, and looked at his lute curiously. She smiled when he played music.

"I lived almost the woods, not a town," she said somewhat wistfully. "There was a mine lots of my people worked in. I had a little field I farmed in. I farmed a lot of potatoes. Magic was a thing but we didn't really use it ourselves. I heard a story about a princess who got cursed though! They said the queen was so jealous of her beauty she cursed her to sleep forever, but a prince saved her. But it was only a story and I never met her. She's a princess of heart I think."

Ginny's tone implied despite her home and life sounding fairly simple and uneventful, she greatly missed it.

At first, Alice did not realize that she had lost herself in her thoughts, but when she did, she quickly found her way back. "Oh! Dear me! I'm terribly sorry, Mr. Basil," she apologized to the mouse of Baker street, "It seems I lost myself a bit back there, but I suppose I've found myself now. I really should get to answering your question, shouldn't I?". With a thoughtful expression, she proceeded to answer carefully for fear of accidentally insulting the mouse, "My London was also a city within a larger earth. To be exact, it was about that big," Alice's fingers squinted together to show a very small size, "on the globe in father's study. My London also has many famous landmarks. I've seen a few and learned about at least a dozen in my history lessons." Alice wasn't actually sure exactly how many landmarks she really learned about. However, dozen seemed about right. She continued as carefully as before, "However, I do not recall much tragedy or danger in my London. Just a place filled with a lot of busy, boring things that the adults find terribly boring for some reason. I don't remember hearing about any knighted mice, either, but I do suppose it's possible that I missed that part of my lessons." It appeared that Alice was so focused on the differences between her memories of London and Basil's that she had somehow mixed up Basil's question about the twins with his comment about how a human likely viewed London differently, answering the comment and treating the question as just a comment.

Having said what she wanted, Alice looked tentatively at the mouse. She worried that it might have a temper like the only other mouse she had spoken to. Truly, she hoped it would not take offense that she saw London so differently than he. There wasn't anything she could do about it, after all.

Meanwhile, Leora was gawking in amazement at meeting an actual, real life farmer, or at least someone who used to do some farming. Lucius was just as surprised, but he hid his much less open mouth with a hand daintily held over his lips, a little bit of manners that the two twins learned from Alice. She and Lucius had read about them and they were supposedly very common, but the school wasn't located in a rural region nor were farmer a common previous occupation for students enrolled in Kingdom Academy.
