After the embarrassment at Venus' house, the poor pretty blonde was scared that those two would never want to be friends with her again. Vienna tried so hard to obtain their friendship...so hard that it ultimately failed her. She didn't mean to crush Venus' hand and get Chris' foot all muddy...and most importantly, she didn't mean to fall out of a tree either! But she did it for a good reason. She didn't want Chris and Venus to think she was some kind of priss who always follows the rules, colors inside the lines, never climbs trees or ditches. She wanted to be something different for once. Someone who had adventures. Vienna had been fascinated with adventures from a young age when her mother used to tell her stories about the games and what not. She has always wanted to start her own adventures but she knows her mother is quite overprotective of her. But Vienna knows she only over protective because she doesn't want Vi getting hurt like she was in the Games. She loves her too much to let that happen.
Approaching the Victor's Village, Vienna stopped for a moment to examine the houses. There were only a few which were occupied, for not a lot of people from District 11 won. She knew her mother would ask her a lot of questions because it was to early for schools end. Vienna just figured she said she was feeling under the weather and end it at that. Taking a breath, she approached the front of her home. Digging through her belonging she noticed that she couldn't find her key. "Damn it." She cursed to herself quietly and remembered she had hidden a key in her special hiding place for it. Thrusting the new found key in the door Vienna walked into the house and shut the door behind her. "Mommie? It's me...Vienna. I'm home...I uhm...wasn't feeling well so they let me leave early." She replied a bit nervously but hoped her mother would just think that her unsteady wording was because of her being sick. She was writing down notes and comments from her own head, preparing for the next Games when she would have to mentor two new Tributes. She felt that if she learned the strategies of others, she could figure out the best plan of action for her Tributes. She learned quickly, during her time in the Games all those years ago, that a person's personality told you what they would do given any situation. That was how Karrie had managed to live through the whole ordeal, and she planned to teach her young charges the same thing. When she heard the front door open she gave an involuntary flinch, but remembered that only her daughter and her husband had keys to the house. So, naturally, it had to be either one or the other. And when she heard her daughter's shaky voice call out, she frowned slightly. Closing her book and turning off the TV, she left her office and headed down the stairs, pausing just before she got to the bottom to examine her daughter. A genuine, warm smile rose to her face at the sight of the beautiful girl, who had grown to be so strong and smart. Karrie was so proud of Vienna that her heart ached every time she looked at her daughter. It was a good aching, though, and even though they weren't connected by blood, the love that Karrie felt for her daughter was unmistakable. this was her daughter, in every sense of the word. And because she loved her daughter so much, Karrie could see that Vi was upset about something. The agitation at her daughter being home before school ended faded into nothing when she caught the shake in Vienna's voice. Karrie walked over to her daughter and laid her hand gently on her cheek, soft brown eyes showing with worry, "Are you okay, sweetie?" She touched the back of her hand to Vienna's forehead, checking for a fever. Then she held her daughter at arms length and examined her pretty face with a careful eye. Something had, indeed, happened. But Karrie decided that she would let her daughter tell her when she was ready. ((OOC: Outfit))

Vienna watched as her mother made her way down the steps. Vi figured that she must have been upstairs writing stuff down. Vienna knew her mother was a mentor for the Games so she had a lot of studying and what not to do. The 16 year old had always wondered what it must be like out there in the arena. The adventure and that feel of just....energy. But Vienna also found that it must be horrifying never knowing which breath might be your last or how one subtle move can mean life or death. She never felt strong enough to be in one of those games. It wasn't that she wasn't confident she just wasn't...strong like her mother. The blonde deeply admired her mother and her ability to keep the family together. She was like the marshmallow in a smore. Without the marshmallow the smore would be all boring. Plus who wants to eat a marshmallow-less smore!? She considered the fact that their was people were people in District 12 that would be overjoyed to even have an extra scrap of food. Vienna always thanked "whatever was up their in the sky" for what misfortune she had. She always felt so blessed that her mother didn't just pass her by in the orphanage all those years ago.
She looked up at her caring mother and smiled. At her mother's touch she felt like all her troubles would melt away. She knew they wouldn't though. No matter how amazing her mother was at making her feel better. The guilt of ditching and almost falling out of a tree would never die. She felt absolutely terrible about having to lie to her mother. The most sweet caring and just...perfect person she had ever met. She sighed and took a deep breath. Even though she wasn't feeling okay she nodded. "I'm sure i'll be alright soon Mom. I think I just caught a bug or something. I think it was...uh, Todd. He seemed to be pretty pale lately...and I sit next to him in class. All I need is alittle rest and some soup and...hopefully I'll be good as new. Thanks for caring Mom." She gave her mother a refreshing and loving smile. She loved how much her mother cared about her. She was so good to her.
When her mother dropped her hand from Vienna's cheek and put her hands on her shoulder Vienna's greenish-blue eyes wandered a bit. "I am...very sorry for missing school Mom. I just didn't want to get the other kids sick ya'know?" She lied. But she gave her mother a sincere glance it was hard to tell. That look was one of her specialties. But the girl feared that her mother could see right through her that she could tell when she was lying and when she was telling the truth. But Vi only hoped that this time her mother couldn't tell...

Although, for a moment there, the girl had almost fooled the Victor. Almost. She had that kind, innocent look that threw a person's guard off almost instantly and made her look as if she would never even dream about telling a lie. But still, there were those slight, telltale signs that what she said was not completely true. Karrie thought that she would have to give her daughter a few tips on lying, and how to detect a lie. That could help her just as well as any weapon or amount of money. But, even knowing all of this, Karrie did not call Vienna's bluff. Instead she just leaned forward and kissed the girl's forehead, linking her arm through Vi's and steering her towards the kitchen, "Alright, lovie, let's go get you some soup, hm?" She decided not to say anything about her daughter's lie because there was obviously something that Vienna didn't want her to know, so Karrie wouldn't pry. She tried to let her daughter have as much privacy as she could lend under one roof, and kept her nose out of the girl's business. Unless she was excessively upset, then Karrie would take action. But in moments like this, she took a step back and turned a blind eye. Well, not exactly a blind eye. She would still be watchful, but she wouldn't confront Vienna. When they entered the kitchen, Karrie sat her daughter down at the island and went to find some things to make soup, glancing at her daughter warmly, "I'm glad to see that you have so much consideration and care for your fellow classmates. I would hate to see the entire school sick because of you." She pulled various vegetables from the rack that hung beside the sink and laid them on the chopping board, smirking, "I am also glad to see that you don't have such qualms about your mother." She chuckled lightly, then said, "Oh yeah, and don't ever thank me for caring. It's my job, my life and exactly what I love to do." This statement couldn't be any more true, and Karrie wasn't even sure if she could explain it to her daughter in words. It was something that just was, and she hoped that she portrayed it well enough to Vienna. ((OOC: Outfit))

A pretty smile crossed Vienna's face as her mother offered to make soup. Her mother's soup was one of her favorite things in the whole world. Vienna was sure it pretty much cured anything from a sprained ankle to a headache. She wondered if her mother sprinkled magic in it while she wasn't looking. She most likely did. Making people feel better was what her mother excelled at most. Well that AND throwing knives. But as Vienna was told many times...she was NEVER EVER under any circumstances allowed to bring up the nickname "knife-slinger" at any times. Apparently she didn't like that nickname much or maybe it just reminded her too much of the games. Vienna was always to scared to ask. "Really!?" She asked excitedly. "I LOVE soup! But you really don't have to go through such effort." She said not wanting her mother to overwork herself.
But to her surprise the 2 were already in the kitchen. She obediently sat down at the island in the kitchen while her mother prepared the soup. Vienna was naturally a goody-two-shoes always doing as told...well that was...before the ditching. She hated that she actually LIKED ditching. That feeling of freedom and everything. Plus the teachers usually spent half the class napping so whatever. She spaced out a bit...staring out the window by the sink in the kitchen. She wondered what Chris and Venus were doing about now. Probably talking about how lame she acted...Vienna frowned. Suddenly she snapped back into reality at her mother's voice. She had said something about her classmates. "Hm...? Oh! Yeah. I guess you could say that...getting sick is not a fun thing to do." She coughed, trying to make it sound as realistic as possible.
She giggled sweetly at her mother's comment. "No problem." She remarked with a grin. She hated how she wasn't looking sick enough anymore...so she tried to make herself look paler. The adopted blonde listened to her mother. She nodded her head as she finished. A smile spread across her face. "But if I don't thank you..how will you know how much I appreciate you?" She questioned her parent truthfully. She soon began to think of something else. That had been eating away at her mind for sometime. She knew she finally wanted to ask. Vienna took a deep breath and shifted a bit in her seat. "Mommie?" She began a little bit shaky. "Why did you pick me in the orphanage...out of all the other boys and girls. I am sure there were much prettier girls to choose from and much more handsome boys. So...why me?"

This statement was more than true. After making it through the Games, which had truly only lasted about a week but felt like a lifetime, nothing was really all that difficult. Despite how horrible the whole experience was, it did have it's benefits to the Victors. It gave them a fortitude that most in the Districts did not have. And it truly prepared them for anything life could possibly throw at them. Karrie noticed how distracted her daughter seemed to be, and her curiosity jumped. Vienna was usually not the type to zone out so completely, and for a moment the Victor just watched her adopted daughter with a raised eyebrow and a slightly amused expression. But when her daughter seemed to snap back to reality, Karrie chuckled and dumped the celery into a pot of water, "You're awfully distracted today, Vi. Maybe you'r getting the flu." Her tone, while light and amused, was suggesting that the flu was not what was wrong with Vienna at all. Karrie was interested to see if Vienna would tell her what was really wrong, but, once again, she wouldn't push. As she pulled a sealed bag of frozen chicken breasts out of the freezer and sat them in a sink full of hot water to thaw, her daughter's next question had her pausing and frowning over at the girl, "I hope you haven't been thinking all this time that you have to voice your appreciation." She set a few carrots on the cutting board and started to chop them into little pieces, a soft smile coming to her lips, "I know how grateful you are every day that you wake up with that pretty smile and say 'good morning'. It's written all over your face, dear, and I don't want you to think that you have to go out of your way to show it." She slowed down a bit in her chopping when Vienna took that deep, slightly nervous breath, then she stopped altogether and looked at the girl when she asked her question. Karrie was a tad shocked by the question, having never heard it before, nor having ever thought about answering it before. The Victor sat the knife down slowly and examined her daughter, wondering why she had chosen Vienna. It had been so long since that fateful day that she had honestly forgotten what had driven her to lift that little sickly baby into her arms and take her home that very day. After a few moments, Karrie smiled warmly, brushing the back of her hand across Vienna's cheek, "I remember when I walked into the nursery and saw all of the little babies and toddlers crawling around and playing, all looking very healthy and yes, beautiful. But you were all alone in your crib, crying fit to wake the dead. You were small and pale and sickly, and I fell in love with you right then and there. There was just something pure and angelic about your small frame. I don't really know how to explain it, but you made me feel human after that horrible time in the Games." And that had been important. Karrie had thought that, after her victory, she had lost every shred of humanity left inside of her. She was a killer, a murderer, and nothing had been able to change that. Until she saw Vienna. The little baby, who had been on the very threshold of death, had shown Karrie that there was still some humanity left in her. Leaning forwards and kissing Vienna's forehead softly, Karrie's smile turned just a tad sad as she remembered past events, but it quickly faded into a warm, soft worry, portraying nothing but love, "Why are you asking all of this now, sweetie? Is something wrong?"((OOC: Outfit))
