Yeah, I am super unreliable here, I know heart what are you all doing for the holiday? if you celebrate it.
We are having my mother-in-law over tomorrow and doing fondue (oil and cheese) as well as escargot, onion cheese bake (which is amazing), shrimp, crackers and dip, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and banana pudding...
we usually do just appetizer stuff, the fondue is sorta the same and sorta different....we were looking to change it a bit since my father-in-law just passed away recently, so the day will be sad too...
My children haven't ever done fondue before (we have scallops, shrimp, beef, pork and chicken to put in the oil) and they are looking forward to that a lot.
Christmas day we have gifts in the morning, then church since it's a Sunday, and the kids are all doing a play/song thing which I am looking forward to there, it's a very different service than we'd normally have.
I miss the Christmas' when I'd get gifts, does that sound terrible? There I am admitting it here! My kids are still to the point they don't buy good gifts if they do do gifts yet, my hubby and I never exchange because the money is too tight, mother-in-law same thing, she gets the kids a gift card, but that's it and my mom sends a small check since they are so far away. I miss opening up a surprise...that doesn't suck. I don't need that, and it's not the best part of it for me, but I realized this year that I kinda miss that.
ok, your turn, tell me what y'all are doing please. sweatdrop

::hugglomps:: I'm sorry, Aoife! The guild's been pretty dead, lately. sad Holiday season doesn't help.
I hope your holiday was lovely.
I can definitely understand the 'kids and god gifts' bit. I try, with my parents, but I think I'm *still* at the 'decent' level, not 'good' level, yet. I'm hoping I'll get better. sweatdrop
My christmas was slightly disappointing. Still haven't found my 'reason for the holidays' since leaving Kitimat. (My reason was always singing with the family ... I need both my father and my uncle for that). We tried to video conference Christmas eve for christmas present opening (Brother in Winnipeg, the 6 family members in Kitimat, and the 4 family members here, over 3 laptops) - but the Kitimat internet connection wasn't working. So they opened gifts without us, and pretty much blew my whole mood. sad I had been looking forward to that. C'est la vie. Next year we'll try for a THIRD time - maybe this time we'll get to open presents on camera. xD
I got make-up, and money, and a guitar! (Unfortunately the Guitar has a catch - I have to go to Kitimat to get it >.> I got pictures, and got to hear it over the phone, though. xD)
I also got 4 of the 'perfect mugs' (Size, shape, colour - all love!) from an aunt, a bead-organizer from another aunt, and a friend from Victoria gave me a wirework book and a teacozie! smile
I also got to sing with my mom and my dad, a capella at midnight mass, one of our favourite songs just before mass started (bit of a long story how that one ended up happening. sweatdrop SOooo much stress! But still enjoyable!)
So all-in-all a good holiday, methinks! (Though, it was not a white christmas. My first non-white-christmas in many years. *pout*)

yeah, there has been a serious lack of snow for awhile this year, right?
Do you play guitar? Cool getting one, but when will you get to get it? can't play an instrument and took piano lessons twice as a kid (because we had a piano, not because it was my choice) I would have picked drums or flute or violin. (I would still love to learn any)
oh well.
sorry your Christmas plans did not work out, that is a bummer, I completely understand looking forward to something and when it doesn't happen it's worse because the anticipation was so much... crying

The worst part, is Kitimat has been having record snowfalls this year and last year! crying
No, I don't play .... Yet. cool I probably won't be getting it until May-ish.
::nods:: That part did suck - but the rest of the holidays were nice. biggrin

Bring some of that snow over here to NYC. We need snow even though a lot of people here don't like it, I do (for the snowball fights). There's been crazy weather over here. Today we were at 50 degrees Fahrenheit and that's too darn warm this time of year when we should be maybe in the 20's or less.
Anywho, my Christmas was ok I guess. I worked and it wasn't anything special. But ringing in the New Year was awesome! heart

I would think you'd be loving the warmer weather! I know we here in MI just finally got some snow on the ground last week that's stuck around, but it isn't much really, and it's been a bit warmer over all, but I like it! What did you do for the New Year?!? You just threw out a teaser! Naito, how far is Kitimat from where you are? I guess you have all our snow this year there!

Yep, I live in the NYC. I love winter especially for the snow but we haven't had any at all... yet (it's predicted to finally snow tomorrow). Everyone else I know here complains about the cold lol.
Oh yes! The new year! I went on a cruise ship with a friend and her mom. It went to the Statue of Liberty where there was a fireworks display. It was awesome! I haven't been on a boat since I was seven crying . Lots of dancing but horrible hor d'oerves (I hope that's the correct spelling). There were nicer cruise ships out there that were probably more expensive but we had the best view of the fireworks. cool

Aoife Naito, how far is Kitimat from where you are? I guess you have all our snow this year there! Google Maps LinkThat link should show you. Google says 1,507km from Kitimat to Cranbrook. Over 21 hours of driving. Sounds like they're getting pretty good snow up there (Highschool closed due to Snow day ... The one and only day I can remember getting 'off' in the winter, wasn't ACTUALLY due to snow - the snow had just managed to cut the power. No heat = no school ... I still walked to school to find out there was none. >.> Either they're getting some darn good snow up there, or they're getting wimpier. ;D) Cranbrook has a bit of snow now, but not even an inch, yet. sad

a cruise sounds awesome and fireworks over the statue of Liberty? sweet!
Bwaaa haaa haaa, I looked at the map, but it didn't tell me anything, and neither did your km measurement to me, I don't follow metric, and I am the most stupidly geographically challenged person EVER, I am quite sure. I can get lost in my own town that I have lived in for 35 years, it's a joke that if I think we are supposed to turn right, we better go left, but when I actually try that logic I still fail, I seem to 99.8% of the time want to go the wrong way... scream I did understand 21 hrs of driving though, UGH!!! that's like me driving to FL from where I am, which would suck. any plans for getting that guitar or what then? with gas prices, it'd be cheaper to ship it I am quite sure.

(The internet tells me 1507 km = 936.406 miles)
Well, Kitimat is where the rest of my family is, so I'd be heading up probably in May for a visit. So I just wait 'till then. sweatdrop
