My girly gets Friskies twice a day (a 1/3 scoop) and about 2.5 oz of Friskies wet food. On sundays, she gets the pouched whiskas seafood chunks and she usually licks the bowl clean. smile It seems like she eats alot but she spends most of the time running around like her arse is on fire and she burns up alot of calories through playing.

Id love to try a holistic grain free food with her (shes a med hair and I heard that grain free food helps with skin/fur quality) but the 13 to 14 bucks for a 3.5 pound bag isnt really within my budget. I buy the 7 pound friskies for 8 bucks and it lasts 2 months. If they made it cheaper, Id buy it. And ive heard of raw meat diets for cats, which seems like itd break the bank even more, and was curious, if your just feeding them the raw meat, how are they getting the nesseary vitamins and nutrients that a cat needs to develop and grow? And be healthy? Im not saying Im feeding her the pristine food (it is, after all friskies) and Im not interested in swithcing to a raw meat, but isnt too much protein bad for cats?

In the wild, they'd be eating raw meat, organs and bones and little to no plant matter, so feeding them a diet consisting of raw meat, bones and organs is actually the best and most ideal way to feed them. If I had the freezer space and the money for it, I'd be feeding raw, but since I don't, I'm feeding them Orijen. I do suggest that when you can afford to, increase the food quality you're feeding your cat to a much better brand, such as blue buffalo (grainless lines), Wellness (canned or the grainless line, Core), Acana (grainless lines), or Orijen for example.
I would like to, but my budget wont allow it at the moment. Call of the Wild is 13 bucks for a 3.5 pound bag. sad And thats the cheapest.

That's why I said when you can afford it. smile I do understand that right now you can't. It's more expensive because of the ingredients they use. It does stink that the better quality foods are so much more expensive than the low quality foods.. I do wish they were cheap enough that everyone could afford them...
Exactly! Its just like people food. The more organic it is, the more exspesive it is. A loaf of gluten free bread goes for almost 5 bucks for a tiny vaacum sealed bag. that expires after a week and has to be refirdgerated. Im just grateful she does have food and that she gets regular meals. Its better than some cats get....

Yep, that's definitely quite true. For some reason, the more healthy something is, the more expensive it tends to be.. >.< It can get annoying to those who want to eat healthier and/or feed their pets healthier food.. At least she does have food, even if it isn't a good food, it's better than none anyways. smile

Thank you. That has to be the nicest thing someones said to me regarding her food. biggrin We all have good intentions and want the best for our 4 legged furry family. As long as we love them, care for their basic needs, the will love us back unconditionally.

I did recently switch my cats food to Halo! Its grain/corn free, has no by products in it and she gets wet food for dinner. I havent noticed any changes other than she sleeps under the bed more (thats somthing else entirely) but she has been pooping less. Probably because shes digesting more of the goodies. biggrin

I feed my animals blue buffalo wilderness. My cat gets the salmon kind. It is spendy, but I cut back on junk foods, and buy a lot of stuff at ALDIs to save money so I can give my animals the best. It also helps that I'm on a 1200 calorie diet. XD

my little baby (who is currently covering half my keyboard) gets Whiskas. It may not be the best but he eats it and it is what I can afford as a college student. >< he was a stray for the first 3 or so months of his life so he also eats a LOT of my food. especially chicken and cheesecake.

Saphi gets Acana as her primarily kibble-source (she has Go! right now), and I vary her wet between Wellness, BFF, Go! and Actr1um (as the most common options; I might buy something else from time to time).

The only "human food" she gets is raw bits of meat when I'm cooking some of it.

Treats are usually whatever I buy for the dog, broken up into suitable pieces.

I'm super a**l about ingredients and such as far as what I'll feed her; no Friskies/Meow Mix/Whiskas/etc.. for my fluffy.

My kittens are fed Natural Balance, the kind specific to indoor cats. They used to be on Cat Chow and OMG what a difference! Their coats are better, they don't go to the bathroom as much and seem to get fully faster.

However, I did notice that because of this they eat more than they should and get sick...all over the place lol. I'm going to be switching feeding methods and then if it persists call a vet.

Are they eating more than they should, or are they scarf-and-barfing (eating too quickly and then puking it up)?

Both are manageable, and if it's just since the food change a vet visit likely isn't necessary. Dealing with s&b is a bit of a pain and does require a fair amount of dilegence on your part, generally though (my cat does this with some flavours of wet food)

They eat too fast and then throw it up and then meow at you to feed them more razz Lately it has been happening a lot more. I am moving soon and my mom wants to keep my kittens. So I've been having her try and keep up with them to see if she can handle it...and I noticed that she forgets to feed them or over feeds them. It's whenever she remembers to go downstairs and feed them. So I was thinking of getting a never ending food bowl for them. Yes, I know a lot of people are against these BUT when I was feeding them regular amounts on a set schedule they never ate more than what they needed. They now eat like a mad man because of my mother's forgetfulness :/

I'd set a daily alarm to go off at meal time for the cats, or even look into one of those timer-feeders before free-feeding.
Once they get back on a regular schedule of getting however many scoops however many times a day, based on feeding guidelines/how much they eat when not on this on-again-off-again "schedule" they should adjust their eating accordingly so that they're not pigging out because there isn't the reason for it (for my cat it's one scoop (1/3 cup) once a day, because that's the amount and timing that's worked out best for us)
