Okay so if during the Civil War, America was literally made into two separate countries, then who represents the Confederacy? The same situation happened during the cold war though there was Germany and Prussia to represent the two parts of Germany but for America there was only him. So is there another country that we don't know about?

Princess Mint the Great
Split personality... ^_^
So my answer is yes and no.

Maybe but would he have to bear all the scars that came from the war and who would represent/lead the South if he has to represent/lead the North

I think that the Confederate States used to be a separate entity until America was unified. Because the separate entities haven't existed for a certain amount of time (Romano was a separate entity for centuries and Prussia was...well, Prussia), the Confederate died out and became a part of America's consciousness, like a split personality. I say recently, the two of them have made a compromise.

I would say that Prussia is only seperate from Germany because the two were seperate countries for a long time (I think). The case with America? Well, I'm not sure, since it wasn't for too long that the country was divided, so maybe a split personality? But if an individual character is made, then Australia would have to have five or six different characters because for nearly half of Australia's time as a British colony (it's still classified as a British colony) each state was organised and acted as it's own seperate country. Or perhaps it's the case with Britain/England, and the one character represents the others. But then again, I don't know anything about American history.

I imagine it as a split personality, and one of the big scars from that war is just above his hip bones where he was almost literally ripped in half by the war.

I can't see it as split personality at all considering the majority of early American history (colonial, Jacksonian Era/Antebellum). It wasn't like America randomly developed sectionalism in the South and North just before the Civil War. It had pretty much always been that way since before the American Revolution so you'd have to say he was mentally screwed up since forever. (Which kind of bothers me. I don't like the idea of saying a country has "mental" problems just because their regions are so different since all large countries have some degree of sectionalism)

An interesting fact about the Civil War is that both North and South considered themselves the "True America" so I see it almost as another representation forming and the two of them fighting to see who has the right to be called America. That was one reason why Virginia's loyalty was so hotly contested by people in both regions since the state was the home of Washington and many founding fathers. It was like whoever got Virginia symbolically got Washington's blessing or something.

Also, since the Hetalia author has confirmed smaller entities within countries would be personified by creating Osaka and other Japanese prefectures, it probably would be even more accurate to say the states literally rebelled against America. (Although I like there being two separate entities just because it makes the whole "Who is the REAL America?" question way more dramatic/exciting in my mind. Maybe a combo of both.)

I'm not as much a fan of a split personality but I do see where you guys are coming from. That would make a lot of since but I like the idea of another person and I can see where a problem would come from if they did the same thing for Australia that would cause a lot of problems but also what about Sealand? If the reason that Gilbert and Romano are around because they have been around for so long then where does that leave Sealand? He hasn't been around for even a quarter as long as Gilbert and Romano yet he is represented. I don't have anything against him though I'm just curious

I could be like what happened to Canada when Quebec was trying to be a country, he just had a headache and beat his head against the wall.

I think not. The Confederacy was never really recognized as its own country, and never successfully had any foreign relations. It was also so short-lived that the character would pretty much be useless.
