Hanamura Yousuke The Magician This dungeon was getting on his nerves. Not that he didn't appreciate the nostalgic RPG castle look, but the place was unsettling. It seemed to affect Yu more than anyone else though. Their leader was fighting any enemy that crossed their path and seemed to be pushing to climb the castle as quickly as possible. Yousuke kept glancing at him every so often trying to catch his eye but he seemed to be deeply focused.
Yousuke was readjusting his headphones on their way up the stairs after a particularly intense fight when Yu suddenly broke away from the rest of them. They dashed after him but he outpaced them rather handily. When did Yu get that fast? Did he join the track team or was he running laps around Inaba in whatever free time he had? "Narukami!" he called after his Partner. They heard the raised voices of whatever his name was... Mitsuo? ... echoing down the hall and then the dreaded "You're not me!". Yousuke poured on the speed hoping to get there in time.
The whole group skidded though the doors just in time to see Yu get swallowed up in the formation of this large robot that must be Mitsuo's shadow. Yousuke's heart skipped about three beats. Were they already too late? Regardless the robot bared down on them and the stuck out with whatever the could. Each strike seemed to pixelate the armor before it reformed again. It gave them little glimpses inside where Yousuke caught sight of silver hair and a black uniform on one of his passes. "Narukami's still in there!" he called. They redouble their efforts and were soon rewarded with the armor breaking off to reveal the sorta ugly baby thing that must be the core of the shadow.
Wasting no time Yousuke ran towards the robot and with Jiraiya's help climbed the armor. He spotted Yu half buried in armor pieces and reached out a hand. The others were busy keeping the armor from reforming, it was all up to him. "Naukami!" he yelled over and over trying to navigate closer. He couldn't lose Yu this way! It was hard enough to lose Saki-sempai and he had Yu there to help him. He reached the last little distance with a final call.
"Yu!!!"
There was a bright flash of light and suddenly Youske was standing in a world of fog. He looked around in confusion and was surprised to see his shadow there as well. Hadn't Jiraiya been in Persona form a moment ago? "Where are we?" he asked. "Hell if I know! All I know is Yu is here somewhere and there is a path heading that way." his shadow responded pointing strait ahead. "So unless you want to stay here..." The answer was obvious. Yousuke ran ahead calling for Yu, with Jiraiya close behind, following a path he could barely see. He hoped against hope he'd get a chance to tell Yu "I love you, too".

Narukami Yu The Fool Yosuke's cries had fallen on deaf ears. By the time that Yu was visible to the group on the outside, he was falling deeper into a nightmare. Visions of all of the people he'd met and all of his friends. All the while he heard Izanagi laughing at him and pulling the I told you so card. "Shut up!" Yu screamed and fell to his knees quaking. "Why are you doing this to me? Stop lying!" Yu shouted in pained anger.
"Lying. I can't lie. I am thou and thou art I..." Izanagi mocked. Remember? Yu shook his head desperately. "No?" He shook his head again. "This is what's going to happen. They'll all forget you and everything you ever did for them. Your a pathetic tool, only used when they need you." Izanagi laid it on thick. He sounded like he was right behind Yu. Mocking him and tearing his willpower down.
Yu's hands fell from his ears, but he kept his eyes closed. "Go on...why don't you say it...what you really want to say." Yu opened his mouth. In just barely a whisper the words left his lips. "Thou art I..." Then Izanagi's voice came from his mouth. "...and I art thou."
Yu's eyes slowly opened and they were that familiar bright yellow that all the others shadows had possessed. He removed the glasses that allowed him to see in this realm, but his eyesight wasn't bothered at all. At the same time of having Izanagi inside his mind, Yu was still aware of everything going on. All of his persona cards appeared around him and then the pictures went blank. Yu absorbed them all and grinned with a new vile intent.
He threw his hand in the air and crushed an empty card. Mazio destroyed the illusion he had been in and he arrived at the riverbank. "This place..." He narrowed his eyes as voices tried to make him remember. "I don't need these memories anymore!" He crushed another card an Agidine began burning across the water. Keeping it ablaze like hellfire. Yu began to laugh uncontrollably. He was like a madman and any power that Mitsuo had possessed over his mind. Yu was now free to destroy the illusions and the memories that accompanied him. He would forget everyone before they forgot him. Destroy ever happy memory before they brought him agony.

Hanamura Yousuke The Magician The path Yousuke was running on was seemingly endless, but right when he was starting to think he'd be running forever there was a wave of light and the crash of thunder. The pain was a flash and gone but it knocked Yousuke to his knees.
He knew this feeling. That was what it was like when he got hit by Mazio. But where had it come from? The scene around him had also changed to a sight Yousuke was very familiar with.
"Damnit."
The sudden expletive drew his focus to Jiraiya, then back into the flood plain as if to see what had caused the curse. There, on the lower half of the plain, was Yu. Yousuke ran towards his Partner half afraid it was an illusion, or some sort of other shenanigan. He skidded to a halt nearby to see Yu turn and speak about not needing this place anymore. But what caught Yousuke's attention was Yu's eyes.
The golden yellow eyes of a Shadow stared into his soul and smirked as he crushed a card and set the world on fire. "Yu!" Yousuke yelled as he shielded his eyes from the blaze. Jiraiya step forward blocking out some of the heat while never taking his matching eyes from the unexpected opponent. "It's not Yu. Or at least not completely. I'm trying, but all I sense is Izanagi. And whatever this fire is, it feels like it's attacking our bond to Yu."
Is that what Yu had meant by not needing this place? Nothing was making sense besides the terrible press of imminent danger. Yousuke shook his head. This was no time for internal debates. If he wanted to save the bond between himself and Yu he had to act now. "We can talk shop later after we get all of our asses out of this god damn frying pan!"
"No really?! I'd never have guessed." Jiraiya smirked. "You know what you have to do then, right?"
Yousuke closed his eyes and nodded. He took a deep breath in, and let everything go. He thought of Yu's smile, his patience and strength, all the odd jobs and quests he did trying to help people, and finally his kiss and the way he looked when he slept. Gale force winds swept through the plain and from the middle of the cyclone two voices became one.
"I'm you... and you're me."
His eyes snapped open as the wind died down. He felt a scarf settle around his neck and the familiar weight of his weapons appear in his hands. For the first time in months, Hanamura Yousuke was alone in his own head. He shifted into a ready stance and yelled, "Narukami Yu, you stubborn idiot! I LOVE YOU! Now snap out of it so we can go home together!"
We call them strong Those who can face this world alone Who seem to get by on their own Those who will never take the fall
We call them weak Who are unable to resist The slightest chance love might exist And for that forsake it all
Life is not tried, it is merely survived If you're standing outside the fire

Narukami Yu The Fool As the fire spread things just got more convoluted in Yu's head. As the riverbank was blazing so too were his memories. While Izanagi was on a rampage; Yu was apathetically watching as his memories that took place on the river bank slowly blurred like burning film. Small memories, fishing, talking to the old woman, but then.
Yousuke and him sitting there talking about Saki. That memory flashed and outside of his mind the flames grew higher. Wind swept around the area and Izanagi turned towards the intruders. He saw their transformation and laughed. It was a harsh and corrosive sound. He threw his hand in the air and snatched a blank card from the mass swirling around him. "How sweet! Do you see how much they need us?" He glared and his smile disappeared. "They can't win without their weapon!" He crushed the card and the riverbank disappeared in a flash of cold. Mabufu causing the memories to crash around them.
Yu screamed and it escaped the bodies lips. "Do you hear that Jiraya?" He snickered. "That's the sound of freedom within my grasp." Izanagi laughed once more as a new area appeared around them. Their classroom around them. "Yousuke..." Yu's voice cracked through the air and faded out. 'Causing his shadow self to scoff. "Listen to that. Still pleading for you. Maybe it was those pathetic words. The ones he said with a fever melting his brain." Izanagi implied the delirium and grinned.
"Why don't we settle this? Jiriya! When I've destroyed all these useless bonds and memories; you'll be free to take over that body. All of us will finally truly be one, with us in control. Why don't you help me? It's what Yu wants. We'll be together forever. We'll never forget. Never be weak!" He extended a hand to the others and smiled. His offer standing.

Hanamura Yousuke The Magician The taunts were about what Yousuke expected from these kinds of shadow fights. The flash of cold and change of scene were a shock but gave him a quick moment to flex and get used to his new outfit. But the scream that issued forth from Yu's lips made his heart feel like it skipped about ten beats.
Yousuke listened to the words Izanagi threw at them doing his best not to read too far into them or over react to their harshness. He knew, from painful personal experience, that the words and feelings were based on truth, but they were not the whole story. When Yu's voice crackled in the air as if coming from the PA system, Yousuke briefly closed his eyes and whispered, "Hang in there, Partner."
Izanagi continued with hardly a pause, rattling off an offer that was basically "Join the Dark Side. We have cookies.". Meanwhile, sensing an incoming end to the stalemate, Yousuke thought frantically about what he should do now. The idea of facing Yu in a one on one, spell on spell, battle was ludicrous. Yousuke knew he was no slouch, and that he had both physical skills as well as spells and even healing, but it was nothing compared to the amount of abilities Izanagi could muster.
Maybe then, the answer was not to fight. It would have to be what he said and did that mattered. He wasn't the most eloquent person, but maybe he could make up for it with a lot of heart. He might make a fool of himself, but it would be worth it if he could make this work.
Yousuke looked down at the weapons in his grip for a moment before sheathing the blades in the holster usually hidden under his jacket. He then looked Izanagi in the eyes and began to speak. "I'm not going to fight you. But, what you are talking about doesn't sound like freedom or unity to me." Yousuke took a step forward. "None of us are perfect. We make mistakes. We fight with each other. And yes, sometimes we are weak and we forget." Another step. "But it's our relationships that help define us. Without them, we are truly alone."
Each step brought him closer to his Partner. He was within an easy strike distance when he stopped. "But you're not alone. You have me. You've got Yukiko, Chie, Teddie, Rise, and even Kanji. And if you don't believe that, then what about your uncle and Nanako? She's not gonna forget her Big Bro." Yousuke raised his arms as if asking for a hug and smiled. "I'll say it one more time. I love you, and I'm not letting you go. Now let's go home, Partner."Love feels like war Is this the end of us or just the means to start again? In the chill of your stare I am painfully lost Like a deer in the lights of an oncoming bus
For the thrill of your touch I will shamefully lust As you tell me we're nothing but trouble
We go together or we don't go down at all

Narukami Yu The Fool More memories flashed before Yu and he reached out as if he could touch them. He was losing his mind. He didn't want to forget them. This wasn't the right thing. He knew that. There was some part of him that was angry at the thought of people not needing him anymore. But that wasn't the only part of him.
Izanagi felt the shake in resolve. He needed to end this faster. Though it was clear Jiraya and Yousuke were going to try everything to stop this. He was debating and planning as they spoke. While Izanagi wasn't really paying attention; Yu was. He heard them loud and clear. Though he wanted to shout at Hanamura to back away. He couldn't stand the idea of hurting him. His voice wouldn't break through this time though.
Izanagi glared and grabbed another card. He shook his head. "Fine, I suppose I can't convince you." His hand went to crush the card, but it just disappeared. He took a step back. The rest of the cards fell to the ground and disappeared. "I wont let you..." Yu's voice whispered and Izanagi doubled over and his eyes flickered from the yellow. "We may be the same, but I would never hurt Hanamura..."
Izanagi yelled in rage the memories flickered around them in confusion. Most of them pertaining to Yousuke and himself. Yu broke through enough to look at his partner and give a weak smile. "I love you..." The world around them crashed and shattered. Yu moved quickly and held onto Yousuke to protect him from the sudden blast of energy.
There was a flash and suddenly Izanagi was standing next to them. Stoic and quiet once more. Yu let go of Hanamura only for a moment before hugging him properly. He didn't know what to say, only that he didn't want to let go.
