Warrior Protodermis Alie Valens Warrior Protodermis Alie Valens I thought foxes were in the feline family... the only felines that can't retract their claws... they're young are called kits =/ Do I just have my facts mixed up and it's some other small carnivorous cat that can't retract its claws ~rubs temples~ I know I heard it somewhere but maybe I have the wrong animal.... someone please correct me if I'm wrong! They are most definitely a dog D: ~scratches scalp furiously, mumbling under breath~ and I thought I wanted to be a vet... stupid, stupid, stupid. I swear there was an animal that was/is often mistaken for a canine even though it's feline because it can't retract it's claws..... The cheetah can't retract it's claws, other than that, I'm not too sure what animal you're thinking... It wasn't the cheetah.... it was a fox-like animal and I don't remember what the animal was..... It's been driving me crazy for days

I did some Google searching and all I came up with was a Meerkat. Full info is HERE. It more or less says:
Their claws are long and curved – perfect for digging through the hard, sandy soil. Though meerkats belong to the civet family, a group of catlike mammals, they can’t retract their claws like cats can. Their front claws are used for digging and the back claws are used for climbing.
They have those golden colors and sweet faces. Maybe they're what you're thinking of? *hopeful* You may have looked into them because of The Lion King. I know that's what got me curious... 3nodding

If I had to pick a wild animal I'd love to own it would be a skunk, hand's down. I simply love them. heart
They are only legal to be owned in 17 states in the US. There are arguments on proper care and no pre-made food types for skunks. Homes are hard to skunk-proof and there is an (extremely small) chance they can have rabies (it's super hard to be certain with them). Because of all of that, I will likely never own one. They can be great pets, but the problems are extensive. Here's a cute pic:

The animal I'm thinking of is about the same size as a fox because I confused them

I used to have a pet deer named Aurora, but she got hit by a car and died... It made me really sad.
If I could have any wild animal though, I must say it would probably have to be a hyena... no, a pack of hyenas (because one by herself would feel lonely). Or maybe I would have several packs, of all the different subspecies of hyenas, because hyenas are just freaking awesome! cat_whee

I want one but that if I ever do get one will be in the far far future. ya, since they're in the canine family, they're easy to tame Well it's either that fox or this

I would take a wolf, please!
I already have a hybrid, so I'm in love with similarities, lol.
(Mine is the one on the right both times, comparing to the more obvious.)

I don't think I've heard anyone who has mistaken a cheetah for a canine.... and the, apparently mythical, animal I was thinking of is a medium sized cat, about the size of a fox.

An orca (or killer whale.) They're beautiful, fascinating creatures. They're intelligent; some studies about them have shown that orcas communicate with a fairly complex language using the clicks and squeals they make. They're family-oriented, and young ones will stay with their mothers all their life. They have also never been known to harm or kill a human being out in the wild. (Sea World's another story.) Wild orcas have been known to enjoy having their tongue rubbed by humans. I once had a dream about petting a wild orca, and ever since that dream, I've been rather captivated by them. If I had one as a pet, rest assured I wouldn't keep it in a tank. XD I just think it'd be cool if he lived in the ocean and I could call him to me every time I went to the sea or something.
P.S. I would not name him Shamu. emotion_donotwant
