I twitched my whiskers as I recognized the slightly flirting overtone in his meow, but I knew from the look in his eyes that he was teasing. Falconwind approached as well, and both seemed to want to know about the prophecy.
Was I really the only deputy who had received it? All my life, I had been close to the medicine cats in StormClan- first Starpelt and now Moonblaze. I also had a burning, fervent faith in them. That's what had connected me to them from the start. Had these cats not even established a bond yet?
I reserved judgement to myself. StarClan would approach them when they were ready.
My eyes glazed over as I began to recant my dream. "The skies were dark," I murmured, twitching my tail. "And the clouds were angry. Thunder and lightning raged furiously among the clashing clouds...and the rain poured down like a river, nearly drowning me."
I closed my eyes, saying softly, "And then I heard the prophecy:
Colors abound and colors abode
Promises made and promises sold
The listful land shall suffer storming might
in a premonition of impending blight.
Beware the Stone!"
Opening my eyes, I blinked at the other deputies, feeling a bit self-conscious. "The storm was a warning," I sighed, "Of something that's coming. Only StarClan knows what the Stone is. It's odd that they named a Stone rather than a creature...I was discussing with Dragonfire the possibility that the Stone might be a symbol."

Instantly think, the tip of Falconwind's tail never stopped twitching. So the storm had been just a warning. Anger at StarClan filled with young deputy, letting out a hot shuttering breath, he knew he had to focus. Even though the storm had nearly killed his mate! Unsheathing his claws and working them into the ground he pushed these thoughts away. The clan must come first.
The Stone? What could that mean? Thinking, he suddenly opened his eyes and focused them on Thunderflight. Could the stone refer to the mountain in StormClan territory, could something happen to the mountain, such as an avalanche? But that wouldn't make sense, did it?
Calming is rushing innards he finally mewed, "Could the stone refer to the mountain in your territory, Thunderflight?"

I thought silently. "Maybe," I admitted. "But there are so many stones in StormClan. I don't understand how one of them could be dangerous to all the Clans."
I thought a few moments more and then gasped. "But...in the stories from long, long ago, of before the Great Journey...the Clans used to live in a place where they had a Moonstone. Maybe this stone is something like that. Maybe it has some sort of spiritual meaning..."
I trailed off, my mind whirling. I hadn't seen any stone like that in all of StormClan, but I had a better grasp on what the issue was. The Stone could very well be a literal Stone imbued with some sort of power.
The leaders jumped down from the tree, padding off towards the exit. Silverstar padded over to us, her emerald eyes shining. She had overheard the last part of my words.
"It could very well be," she assented, glancing at the other deputies. "Shiftstar received a prophecy as we spoke in the tree just now.
Shadows like the darkest night
shall blindly cover warrior's sight

the hungry earth shall swallow."
My fur rose in shock. "The earth?" I asked, confused. "We cannot even trust the earth we walk on?"
Silverstar looked up thoughtfully. "It could mean there will be many rockslides in the future. StormClan and SeaClan must be weary of loose stones. That could tie in with the prophecy, perhaps..."
"That doesn't seem right," I argued, shaking my head. "Why would StarClan call a bunch of rockslides 'impending blight'? There's more to it than that..."
"I meant more that whatever the stone is will be revealed," Silverstar returned. "With all the stones falling, it could open up several areas we couldn't access before. Maybe we'll find the Stone."
I nodded. That sounded like it made more sense. Well, we'd all have to be wary of falling rocks, then! Still, something about the prophecy gnawed at my gut. The hungry earth will swallow...do they mean when we bury the dead? I wondered. Or...are they speaking of something other than rockslides?
The Clans were departing now, so I nodded to the other deputies, grateful to have spoken with them. I looked forward to the future- these deputies seemed willing to work together. They'd all make great leaders one day.
I followed Silverstar out of the clearing, my head buzzing with questions.

Falconwind's fur bristled. "Thunderflight! I think you were on to something with the Moonstone theory!" He cried, leaping to his paws. "In the stories the Moonstone was underground. In a cave. Do some chosen cats or something have to make journey and travel to the Moonstone from the stories!" He voice had become urgent and he lashed his tail, clawing at the ground. Excitement and fear welled up in the NightClan deputy. What if he was right? But then again he could be as far from the truth as they had been before. "Silverstar," He mewed, turning to the StormClan leader. "What do you think?"

I shook my head, meowing back, "No, the Moonstone was destroyed when the Twolegs destroyed the forest. It wouldn't exist anymore-and besides, the journey is extremely dangerous."
Silverstar seemed to be excited, however. "But you have a point!" she pointed out. "The Stone could be in an underground cave, like the Moonstone was."
I felt excitement p***k at my own pelt. "Yes! That would narrow it down. Thanks, Falconwind!"
Most of StormClan had left already, so Silverstar and I hurried across the log. Silverstar returned to her position in the lead and guided the way home.
An underground cave! I thought. That has to be it...

[Oceanmist sat alone right smack in the middle of the clearing. Speak with the other medicine cats? No. Not in the mood. Unless someone approached her personally, she refused to talk to anyone. Gatherings were a time for Oceanmist to gather information and news and to think. The other medicine cats she wasn't really fond of, either. Nightclan's medicine cats, don't even get her started. Hauntedheart seemed hostile and rough like the waves of the ocean. Oceanmist had met the Nightclan medicine cat when going with Cloudfang to moonpool for the first time. The black she-cat scared her completely. Rabbitfoot was alright, but he seemed quite hostile, as well. Wolfsong was quiet. Really, really quiet. There was never a time when Oceanmist had a conversation with him that went any further then a "hello". Moonblaze was Oceanmist's favorite of them all, however. Shy, yet kind. Somewhat like Oceanmist herself.]
[Off the topic of other medicine cats, Oceanmist began to listen as the leaders began to speak. Death caused by floods. New apprentices. That was basically it. When Foxstar cut Shiftstar off however, Oceanmist narrowed her eyes. No. You don't just do that. the sleek blue-gray she-cat's soft green eyes darkened a little as she narrowed them. She would have said something. Totally would have said something if this weren't a gathering and if Foxstar weren't a leader. Sighing, she shrugged it off and began thinking. But then again, something came up. Danger? Wait what..?]
"Starclan hasn't told me anything of this danger. Maybe.. The message is delayed? I have to visit the moonpool soon. The next half moon, I will figure this all out." [The she-cat thought, her facial expression changing from calm to disturbed and confused.]

Falconwind nodded slowly. True, the moonstone had been destroyed. But Silverstar thought he was onto something, an underground cave. Excitement prickled at his ebony pelt, he had narrowed it down and Silverstar had seemed impressed. At least one leader didn't take him for granted, he thought resentfully. He watched the Stormclan leader and deputy leave before he rose to his paws. He, like the other deputies, should get going and speak with their designated leaders. He turned from the other deputies, bidding them farewell, and made his way over to Foxstar. Hopefully things would start to become clearer. And maybe star clan would open their world of dreams and mysteries to him, like they had done for Thunderflight. The only major thing now was for him to confront Foxstar. Wonderful, he grumbled silently to himself, though he tried to cling to the excitement of the signs. He would have so much to tell Silentleopard, or should he wait to tell her?

Perhaps it was because Valiantstride was a newly appointed deputy, or perhaps it was because Starclan did not have much faith in him yet, but his link with Starclan was nowhere as powerful as Thunderflight's even though she was not clan born, whereas he had clan blood. An interesting turn of events indeed. He listened closely when Thunderflight started speaking, his ears turned sideways in a lax and relaxed manner, unlike Falconwind. The two deputies seemed as different as night and day, from a distance. Falconwind meowed rather suddenly, suggesting the possibility that the stone could refer to a mountain in Stormclan territory. Silverstar suddenly joined their group, adding on to the already strange prophecy. Without his input, the group of cats seemed to already have decided that the "stone" referred to the moonstone of olden times, now only a story of legends for kits. "If you look at the verse another way, "Shadows" don't necessarily have to mean the shadows at our very paws. It can very well mean that there's something we're not seeing, that we're being blind to." Valiantstride shrugged as he walked a short distance with Silverstar and Thunderflight, before slowing down to look for Galestar. Where had the siamese leader gone? He would have thought that Galestar would have some input in this matter, since he seemed to share a close bond with Starclan at times. "An underground cave, huh? Starclan never ceases to amaze me." He muttered quietly under his breath, perhaps with a tone of sarcasm to his voice. He respected Starclan as much as the warrior next to him, but he never understood why they ALWAYS seemed to have to speak in riddles. Were the allergic to straight answers?

Dragonfire listened in silence as the other deputes spoke of their theorys about the possible meaning of the stone. Her ears perked up when they spoke of an underground cave. She was secretly impressed with their powers of deduction, something she would never admit aloud.
An underground cave? Alright thats all fine and dandy but how dose that affect the clans? Is there something about this stone cave that could cause us great harm?
Carefully she thought it over, wondering how it could possibly be related to the flood. Could it be that the cave is directly under us and if it collapses will cause great damage? Is that what Starclan is trying to warn us?
The Seaclan deputy finally spoke. "Falconwind, You said something about a moon stone and how some chosen cats were destined to to find it? If the stone is a threat to the clans can we really sit around and wait for the chosen ones to show themselves? We should do something about it as soon as possible instead of letting a possible threat creep closer upon us."
Her eyes grew serious as she pondered the theories of the other deputes.
"Maybe Valiantstride is right, the shadows could mean something we cannot see. We should seek it out before it finds us first. I am willing to seek out this cave."

Falconwind padded back to Dragonfire, the tip of his tail twitching. "We need StarClan to give up more signs before we can do anything, really. We don't even know where to start." And StarClan knows that Foxstar won't be overly thrilled about any of this, he added the last part silently, working his claws into the ground. "For now we should keep our eyes open in our own territories. If we learn anything we'll need to find a way to contact each other." He decided.
StarClan, open my eyes to what's coming, he prayed silently before turning away from the other deputies and streaking after the rest of his clan to join his leader. He raised through the remaining cats and leaped easily onto the tree-bridge. sinking his claws into the bark he traveled across with grace and ease. Taking pride in the way he had charged across the clearing, faster than any other NightClan cat could have managed, it was his BreezeClan blood, he knew.

She walked over to Rarepaw was sitting with the warrior's and apprentices, to collect her, in time to hear Lostpaw's outburst. She turned to him, as sad look on her face. "I'd like t think so too. But sometimes it's just a cat's time to go. And all star clan can do is receive them, into the endless hunting grounds." Then she looked to Rarepaw. "Time to head home. Ready?" "And now there's a prophesy!" She thought with exasperation. Couldn't the clans have some peace for a few moons? She was just a recent apprentice, and with everything going on, she wondered if Ivoryscales was ever going to be able to teach her anything about being a warrior.
