Shan waited as the pillars of earth shot up towards Torik, content to take his time before they struck. Torik's technique apparently needed concentration, or else he would have moved by now. Going so hard before he even hit Bankai? Impressive. The two cyclones were hard to miss as they dodged the pillars and began to spin around. Shan needed something besides concentration to keep his abilities going, so losing his wasn't much of a problem. He watched the technique out of the corners of his eyes, knowing that the next pillar would strike Torik at almost the same time that this technique would hit. Right before, another summoned pillar appeared right below Shan and carried him above the wind attack. The pillar, by now, would have struck Torik but his vision was obscured. The wind attack was a tad bit more devastating than he was expecting, however, and it caused his perch to collapse suddenly. He leaped off of it, and landed a ways away, rolling as soon as his feet hit the ground. He stood back up promptly in a fighting position, waiting to see what would happen as his pillars crumbled down into nothing at his silent command. Destroying any summoned object of Tenchikaibyaku was nothing to scoff at. Stone and rock were hard enough to pierce as it was, but when it was filled with a captain-level reiatsu it was dangerous. Shan picked one of his arms up and wiped away a scratch on his face. It wasn't bleeding a lot, but it was blood drawn regardless. Considering the power gap between lieutenants and captains, it was admirable.

Torik Ishikawa Lieutenant of Squad 9
As soon as he saw his Captain's pillar lift into the air he was hit with other of Shan's pillars. Torik flew back and rolled on the ground a bit, when he had finally stopped he laid on the ground for a few moments. It felt as if his fractured rib had cracked some more, he felt it more as he slowly tried to get up. Getting up was a bit of a hard task with a cracked rib and a wounded leg. When he finally got back up into his fighting stand, which was a little shaky, Torik watched as the earth pillars crumbled away and his Captain landed back on the ground. He saw Shan wipe the blood from his face and his expression was almost priceless. Did I do that? He wondered to himself as he grinned slightly, he knew it was a lucky shot but he was still proud of himself for even scratching a Captain. Even though he was pretty banged up from his rib and leg injuries he kept his stance, as steady as possible, as watched carefully to see what Shan's next move would be.

Shan's face suddenly grew dark when Torik's grew bright. It was something to be proud of, yes, but Shan decided then and there to let Torik know exactly what a captain was capable of. Let him try to get another scratch this time around, and Shan would buy him a mansion on top of Sokyokou Hill. He held both his hands out, tonfa extended, and said but a few words. Normally in such a small environment he wouldn't dare release his bankai, but as long as he didn't plan on using any of its abilities, he would be fine. Otherwise the collateral damage...would be embarrassing.
"Shatter the earth with your presence. Tenchikaibyaku Zenkai!" The ground rumbled as the tonfas began to glow, growing into two gigantic stone mauls. His spiritual pressure leaked out at an impressive rate, and he lifted both mauls as if it was nothing. He dashed forward, and began to swing both of the long-poled death sticks towards Torik's body in a pincer move, knowing that movement would be very hard for his lieutenant, but he stopped both giant hammers inches before they would hit Torik. Both of them hovering there so, Shan sighed.
"You are good, Torik. Exceptionally so." The hammers retreated, and he propped both up against his shoulders. "I can imagine you being able to take on most lieutenants successfully. I do not give compliments lightly." The hammers retreated in a flash, until he was holding his sealed zanpaku-to once more. He sheathed it, and walked towards Torik. "A job well done, even if I didn't get to see your Bankai. For another day, however." He stepped up to his lieutenant and held up a hand.
"Meiyu." Shan's vivid green reiatsu formed visibly into his hand, and tendrils stretched out towards Torik, infusing his body with Shan's own reiatsu, healing all the wounds Torik had in time. When it was finished, as far as Shan could see, he relented the kidou and gave Torik a look over.
"Well? What did you think?"

Torik Ishikawa Lieutenant of Squad 9
Torik watched as his Captain released his magnificent Bankai, the reiatsu alone was making it even harder for him to stand. As Shan charged at him Torik held his zanpaktou in front of him like he did when he was releasing his Shikai. He began to recite the phrase to release his own Bankai, but it was already too late. "Rule the Skies!..." Torik's reiatsu was starting to rise, but then it stopped. He was wide-eyed, staring at Shan's Bankai, which was inches away from destroying him. A drop of sweat roll down his face and fell to the floor in front of him as he watched his Captain seal his zanpaktou once again. Damn, that was close. So fast... He thought as he sealed his own zanpaktou back into its original state, sheathing it, now finally dropping to the ground from the pain in his calf muscle and cracked rib.
He sat up as Shan healed him and gave him compliments. Torik just gave a weak smile and nodded, "Thank you Captain Hokori." He wasn't really planning on using his own Bankai at all, let alone seeing his Captain's. When he was finished treating Torik he grinned and stood up. "Captain you are truly badass. Your zanpaktou's Shikai and Bankai are incredible, not to mention you know healing kidou as well. I'm not saying this just to be a kiss a** or anything, but you are awesome Captain Hokori." Torik was awed by his Captain's power and skill, he wondered if one day he could someday be as powerful or maybe even stronger.

Shan allowed himself a small smile. It was a different matter entirely to be admired instead of simply complimented. "Thank you, Torik. But the healing kidou is more of a last ditch technique than anything else. It's terribly inefficient, and I have to use an equal amount of my own reiatsu to heal someone else. Those of the fourth can do it much more efficiently. Small wounds like this I have no problem with, but anything bigger than that and I would have to rush you there. Which I suppose is a good reason that I didn't finish that attack." He chuckled a little, and pat his lieutenant on the shoulder. "Besides, it's my chance to congratulate you. You defended fairly well against Tenchikaibyaku, and showed remarkable courage in the face of adversity. Respectable. You will be facing an incredibly amount of adversity in this division, don't let the boring title fool you."
Shan stretched a little, and touched the cut on his cheek gingerly. It had stopped bleeding, and it would probably heal in no time at all. He might clean it up a little later. "So, Torik, now that you're my lieutenant I have to ask. Why did you join the Ninth Division? And what do you know about this division?"

Torik Ishikawa Lieutenant of Squad 9
Torik smiled slightly, but he didn't think too highly of his skills. If it came down to it he wasn't even sure he could defeat an Arrancar. His eyes drifted toward his own zanpaktou, Kaze Senshu, for a moment and then closed his eyes remembering that day in Rukongai. The day he decided to become a Shinigami. "I was getting jumped in Rukongai and I was heavily out numbered, when an old man came to my aid. He was a Shinigami and fought using a fighting style I had never seen before. Before I could even thank him he was gone." Torik opened his eyes again and looked at his Captain with a warm smile. "I joined the Ninth Division because they have to be at the top of their game, the best of the best. I knew joining this Squad would help me become stronger so I can protect anyone who is precious to me."
Torik chuckled as he was asked what he knew about the Ninth Division. He knew he was a new Lieutenant, but he wasn't completely new to the Gotei Thirteen or the Ninth Division. But out of respect for his Captain he answered anyway. " The Ninth Division is a defensive Squad, we mainly stay in the Seiretei and protect it with our lives. Especially when their is an assault on the Seiretei. In such situations the Ninth Division gives orders for defensive tactics to other Divisions. Also, the Ninth Division deals with traitors and anyone that is seen as a threat to the Seiretei."

Shan nodded. "That is about as close to a perfect textbook answer as you can get, Torik. I'm impressed. Your dedication shows." He let out a soft sigh, and raised his eyebrow for a quick second, then shook his head to clear it. "I only wish my initial intentions had been so honorable." Shan was about to continue talking, when the eyebrow raised once more. "Hmm, so we do have a visitor." He clapped his hand to Torik's shoulder, and leaned his head back to his office. "I believe that is my our new third seat, with...her spirit? Hm. Well we will continue this conversation later, hmm? We must attend to our duties and greet the newbie." He chuckled, and began walking towards his office, knowing Torik would be following him.
He wondered how well these two would fare in actual combat. Torik had proven himself against his captain, but what if he had to fight someone he knew? Or an arrancar? Questions, questions, always running through his head. And who knew what his third seat had in store?

Torik Ishikawa Lieutenant of Squad 9
Torik felt the reiatsu as well, but he couldn't tell who it was. When Shan said it was their new third seat and her spirit he raised an eye brow. It shocked him that their newest member had already master manifestation, only people who are close to or already have obtained Bankai can do that. Torik wondered just how powerful this new third seat was. He just nodded at his Captain as he started to walk back to the office. " Right behind you Captain. Torik said cheerfully as he followed Shan back to their office.
