Heya. I was wondering if anyone knew of any sort of spells designed to banish nightmares that have worked for them in the past, or that they now to be effective. Herbs, candle magic, charms...if I can make it, I'll try it.
Whatever tradition they come from is fine, and I promise I'll respect my source material to the utmost, as long as you don't mind me slightly modifying whatever you sent me to suit my Asatru/kitchen witch mentality.
(IMHO, spells are like recipes. everyone has their own views on what makes them work better, adding or removing certain "ingredients", etc. That's just human nature at work, especially when spells and magical knowledge were being passed on as oral tradition by the "cunning folk" and healing women of Europe. )
JSYK, I don't modify spells without examining and researching them carefully first, and I make sure to replace anything symbolic with something equally important.
Everyone probably knows by now how cool I am with mixing traditions, the ancients I base my my religion on did it freely, blah blah blah.
ANYWAY. Nightmares. Probably the fault of the recent increased show of horror movies as Haloween draws near and the oncoming stress of midterms. Help?
Thanks.

Dreamcatchers of native lore always worked well for my kids. The idea is that the bad dreams get caught in the web while good dream can find there way through the hole in the center. When the sun comes up it fries the bad dreams destroying them. A dreamcatcher isn't as hard to make as it seems at first glance. I've made hundreds, and it's such a coomon craft item these days that instructions shouldn't be too hard to find online with a simple search.
If you're not that crafty maybe you can just work the web theme into your own brand of practice.
A cup of chamomile tea and five minutes of happy thoughts right before bed probably wouldn't do you any harm either. smile

I too suggest dreamcatchers, when I was little I used to have bad dreams, then my mom made me a one and I have never had a nightmare till I stopped having one in my room. They are pretty easy to make, at least the simple ones are lol.

So yeah, any way to do it?

The sun light is supposed to cleanse the dreamcatcher, so as long as its in the sun its good, but you can take a bit of sage to it.
