When I started alto sax, I was banished to the basement, and later had to practice in my room with the door closed. The dogs howled whenever I played.
I didn't get it too much from my mom or my dad, but my little sister, who wanted to be a cheerleader a short time, yelled at me when she was told she couldn't be a cheerleader and asked why I got to be in band when she couldn't be a cheerleader. This is the sister who had lots of friends, was popular in school, and didn't have to worry about being bullied.
