This is not a roleplay, exactly. But a story I wrote for two of my ponies to better explain their relationship and how they came to be friends. I decided to re-write it in "roleplay format" so I could then post it here.

To know when this takes place chronologically...

It is after When Two Desserts Collide -- long after this, in fact, because in the story below... Gin and Isabel already have their orbs (and this has not happened yet, either in reality OR in the roleplay).
It is also after A Dark Carnival Awaits -- because Pierrot and Maksim are not together in this particular thread.

Enjoy reading~ ❤

~~~~~~The pasture was boring. Not that it ever was exactly thrilling on it's own, but most of the ponies living within it were all busy being, well, just simply busy. Marokette was quietly preening herself by the lake (which was usually Preetia's job). Flossy had been by the orchard, picking pears for something her mother would, no doubt, be baking. There had been a bit of a ruckus when Twizzle had taken to incessantly screaming the alphabet backwards in the middle of the pasture -- and needed both Flora and Peophynnia to settle him. But even that wasn't terribly exciting, nor all that interesting either; just ponies being everyday ponies and none of it perked Maksim's curiosity in the slightest.
~~~~~~Maksim needed some attention. He craved it. Just like some ponies in his pasture felt their purpose was to tend to their families, or that they were inexplicably drawn to the water, or their first and only thought was for love and to spread it across as many other ponies as they possibly could -- for this, Maks' preference was to only be in the spotlight.

~~~~~~For being as lovely a pony as Maksim, one might think the attention would always come to him. Surely the mares in his pasture would be clamoring at the chance to have such a delightfully sly stallion in their midst? But unfortunately for Maks, it was a rare occurrence for such a thing to happen. There were only a select few that ever gave him so much as a swish of a tail in his direction.
~~~~~~It was for this reason that Maksim rarely spent time in his home pasture. And would have been much happier taking up residence in a neighboring pasture, where attention seemed to follow him where ever he went. After all, when he had Sanguine with him, he typically had no need for any other set of eyes to be on him. Usually, her pair of bright reds were enough to satisfy his need.

~~~~~~But this day, though it really wasn't unlike any other particular day in Sugarplum Pasture, Maksim felt compelled to bring the attention to him rather than wander elsewhere to seek it out -- whether the ponies around him wanted it or not.
~~~~~~So he stood, right in the middle of the grass, outside one of the largest stables, nudging a curiously clear glass orb on the ground with the end of his muzzle. Every time he angled it just right, the bright sunshine caught in the center of the ball like a prism, shooting shards of rainbow light in every visible direction. He did this slowly, methodically, around and around and around the edges of an invisible circle, never saying anything. Only pushing his sphere until glints of splintered, colored light shot through the windows of the building in front of him.

~~~~~~And that was enough. Though he could not see it, for he never took his gaze off of the ball of glass, he could hear the stable door creak open. The rustle of hoof and hair as heads poked out. The hushed whispers of "What's going on?" and "What is that Maksim has?" and "How on earth is he doing that?"
~~~~~~Success.

~~~~~~With relative ease, Maksim nudged at the orb just right and it rolled slowly onto the edge of his snout. And as he raised his head, the sphere stayed where it was, though the mirrored inside still seemed to be swirling within itself. The ball never moved, not a hair's width, from it's perch on Maks' nose -- not even as he continued to walk 'round in a meticulous circle in the grass -- as if he'd balanced it there perfectly. But still it swirled, casting bright light to the left and to the right every single time he passed it underneath the sunshine.
~~~~~~But he wasn't done, merely biding his time, for he knew exactly what would happen next. While each and every pony in his pasture had separate and distinct personalities (though, that's not to say each and every pony had interesting personalities, just that each one was different), there was one thing that made them all the same: curiosity. Surely none around him could resist the lure of finding out just how Maksim was balancing this sphere on his nose, a nose that never wavered from side to side or strayed from being perfectly straight in front of his head... and yet the glass still appeared to move within itself?

~~~~~~It was amazing. The most amazing thing, hooves down, that Pierrot had ever seen in his short life. His eyes were captivated, swirled over just like that glass sphere he so intently watched, and his gaze flickered anxiously to make sure he could keep watching this pony and his incredible orb of light.
~~~~~~He'd been inside Dolci and Yuuki's home, being fed a myriad of delectably sweet treats. They were incredibly hospitable, and had taken pity on him when his mother and her mate had gone off to have a family of their own. Left behind, at least for the moment, and being such a young thing had caused Dolci to offer him a room in her own home until his mother (or father, of whom he knew very little) returned.

~~~~~~But Pierrot felt like a burden -- he felt like a burden to everyone he met. His mother loved him, of this he was absolutely certain, but he knew he was not meant to exist. He'd been told, in various versions, of the way he'd been brought into the world. And in no version was it told that he was particularly wanted until after he was there. Not a mistake, for Seraphim never makes mistakes, but a burden. Because his father and his mother's mate were not the same pony.
~~~~~~Dolci was a very good mother to her family, and had so warmly opened her home to him that he felt obligated to accept the invitation. But Pierrot wished to be on his own, to take the heavy load from the shoulders of Yuuki and his family, and to relieve his mother of the burden of taking care of him as well. True enough, he was, indeed, an adult by every sense of the word. He'd left his orb ages ago and had grown into a small, but still very adult, stallion. But Pierrot was... childlike, both in his petite appearance as well as in his manner. And while he no longer needed to be taken care of, Dolci's innate mothering nature had caused her to take him under her wing (even though she did not, in fact, have wings) despite that it wasn't really necessary.

~~~~~~He'd been standing, very quietly as always, in Dolci's kitchen as she offered him plates of cookies... slices of beautifully latticed pies... ornately decorated cupcakes... and the most delicious smelling, freshly baked pear muffins he'd ever encountered. But his attention was taken from the pastries and drawn towards the window when several flashes of bright light sliced through the glass. It reminded him of the way sunlight looked while underwater -- shimmering and pretty, but each beam separated as if sifted through a sieve. Pierrot was intrigued, and soon his latched on gaze had Dolci peering curiously at the window...
~~~~~~...And then suddenly, every member of Dolci's family, along with little Pierrot, were all clustered in a pile at the open front door. Watching in awe as a harlequin pony caused light to dance all around them with a simple glass ball.

~~~~~~It was mesmerizing and beautiful, this display of light. Pierrot could not help but be entranced -- both with the curious pony and with his seemingly magical globe. But while Leila and Jasper asked questions in excited whispers, Pierrot kept silent. Pierrot always kept silent. And he craned his head from one side, to the other, to keep his gaze on the unknown pony with the jester's hat.
~~~~~~Maksim knew he had his audience captivated. He could sense it; he could feel the eyes on him and it absolutely delighted him. It was such a simple object, just a small globe no larger than an orange, sitting right on the end of his muzzle. Nothing exceptionally mysterious other than, perhaps, the reason why he was circling with it perched where it was. And that's exactly how he caught them in his snare -- though he still had no idea just who was in the stable doorway, watching -- the mystery of it all. Maksim, as a whole, was a puzzle on his own. Adding a peculiar globe onto it, apparently, only furthered the appeal.

~~~~~~But as he walked, his steps gradually grew more steady. A little faster. And with each pass around, his circle became smaller and smaller. The glint of ever-moving sunshine inside the orb, casting splinters of light towards the stable and its open doors, flashed in time with his movements -- becoming more and more frequent and even marginally brighter with each flash. As if Maks were charging it up with electricity garnered by his own hastening pace.
~~~~~~And then he stopped. So abruptly that he could hear surprised gasps from the ponies behind him. He stood perpendicular to the stable building, facing towards the sun in the sky. His eyes were locked on the sphere and he watched as it glowed brilliantly -- catching and casting every color of light all around him, illuminating the end of his muzzle very much like a torch. It felt warm on his nose, gave off a glow white hot with the slice of sunlight caught within it. Then in one swift, smooth motion, Maksim shook his head from side to side....

~~~~~~...and the ball vanished from sight.
~~~~~~There was a flurry of motion behind Pierrot. Shocked whinnying, excited giggling, gasps and cheers -- and even the hard-to-fluster Yuuki seemed rather impressed with the display outside. So much commotion that little Pierrot was bumped back and forth between black and pink bodies and, in a rush to go enthusiastically congratulate the jester pony on his trickery, he was pushed outside the doors.

~~~~~~"Pierrot, did you see that?!"
~~~~~~"That was absolutely amazing!"

~~~~~~"How on Kolum's planet did you make that orb disappear?"
~~~~~~"Can you show me how to do that?"

~~~~~~"Where did the globe go?"
~~~~~~Dolci and her family were all but bombarding the harlequin with questions -- all of which he seemed to take in stride, with a smug look of satisfaction on his face, though he didn't answer a single one. Pierrot, too, wanted to offer his thanks for the show, but even though he was outside... and even though he was slowly inching his way across the grass towards the jester... Pierrot wasn't fully sure how he'd get this pony's attention without being large enough to push and shove his way past the din.

~~~~~~It took a long moment of contemplation on Pierrot's part to finally figure something out. And when the idea occurred to him, he idly wondered just how it hadn't struck him sooner. It seemed a very fitting thing for him to do!
~~~~~~The little red, white and gold pony took a few steps back from Dolci, Yuuki and their boisterous children. Then he stepped around in a circle not once, but twice, almost mimicking the harlequin in his path 'round and 'round. With a kick of his back legs, Pierrot sprang forward and tumbled through the air -- doing two consecutive somersaults to land on his two front legs, which he then walked back and forth on with ease while his hindquarters were high above his head.

~~~~~~All of it came so naturally to Pierrot, as if he'd been performing acrobatics all of his (short) life. But he hadn't; in fact, it was the first time he'd ever even attempted any sort of tumbling. It felt so smooth, so second-nature to him as he circled in the grass on just two legs. His balance was flawless, not even so much as a rose on his tail was moved out of place.
~~~~~~It was almost as if it was in his blood, somehow. Performing this way. Like he'd been born with the capability. But Pierrot knew his mother, Isabel, was not the type for gymnastics...

~~~~~~He was eagerly basking in the attention. So far, his plan had gone off without a hitch. His trickery had quite a little gathering in front of him, all ooohing and aaahing and amazed at his stunt. It couldn't be more perfect than that. He had nothing else to do but wallow in the compliments and maybe pull off a more simple trick in the meantime, just to keep the attention held steadfast.
~~~~~~But when he looked over the flank of the adult male pony standing in front of him, Maksim saw two white and gold legs standing straight up in the air. It made Maks blink several times quickly and even c**k his head to the side far enough for the heart-shaped bells on his hat to jingle. What on earth was that pony doing? And more importantly, why?

~~~~~~Maks nodded his head towards the back of the small group and queried, in a most curious voice, "What's going on back there?" Which, in turn, caused all seven ponies in his midst to do a complete turn about and peer away from Maks and towards the headstanding pony behind them.
~~~~~~"Pierrot! My goodness!" the pretty pink and magenta pony exclaimed. "Where did you learn how to do that?!" But she seemed astonished and happily cooed her words to this... this Pierrot. Maksim wondered if this little one had been there the entire time, shoved to the back of the rather rambunctious family.

~~~~~~"That's rather impressive," Maksim said as he crossed behind the family of ponies to stride up next to the small upside-down pony. "You've a talent for that, hm? What else can you do, love?"
~~~~~~To be honest, Pierrot didn't know what else he could do. But he was thrilled that not only Dolci, but the jester pony as well, seemed rather keen on his own tricks! He seemed to visibly brighten at the attention, straightening his hind legs even more above his head to stand as much in a perfectly balanced line as he could. And then when asked if he could do anything else...

~~~~~~...Pierrot grinned and pushed off the ground with his front legs and did a little twist in the air, cartwheeling mid-air and then setting down all fours on the ground in a smooth landing. But he didn't stop there!
~~~~~~Soon, little Pierrot was tumbling and rolling all over the grass -- putting on his own show of sorts. He took great delight in the cheers and hoof-stomps he received from Dolci and Yuuki -- even after one of their offspring took off like a shot, with the other four and then both parents close behind, to attempt some tumbling of their own. He felt so free, so exuberant, so important as he entertained even the smallest audience.

~~~~~~Or, after Dolci and her family were gone from sight.... he felt so important as he entertained just the jester pony, there, alone in the grass.
~~~~~~"Pierrot, was it?" Maksim asked casually, but with a hint of a smile on the end of his muzzle, once the petite clown stopped moving. "You are quite the acrobat," he went on to say. "I am most intrigued."

~~~~~~This lovely little pony, adorned with roses and golden swirls, had stolen Maksim's spotlight. And yet... he felt no competition nor contempt for this pony. Maks didn't feel like he had to outperform Pierrot and rather thought the two of them would make a good team. Together. The acrobat and the jester! What an interesting idea indeed!
~~~~~~"For such a beautiful little lady, you do tumble rather well. Where did you learn how to do so?" Then, in a much lower, more sly tone of voice. "I don't suppose you'd be willing to teach me how to somersault as well? In a private lesson, perhaps?"

~~~~~~F-for a ... lovely little.. lady? Pierrot peered, confused, back at the jester with a tilt of his head. Of course, he was adorned in a rather feminine way, with roses and sparkling jewels and even a partial mask on his face. But Pierrot was not a lady! He was a stallion!
~~~~~~He shook his head from side to side a bit, trying to mime the word no. But when the harlequin only stared right back at him, clueless, Pierrot took more drastic measures.

~~~~~~First, he sidled up to the jester and wiggled his rump. Then he stared, right into the bright red eyes of the other male, and batted his eyelashes several times in quick succession, while looking up through the fringe on his mane. Feminine. But when the jester seemed to lean in closer, Pierrot jumped back and vehemently shook his head.
~~~~~~Then he puffed out his chest, bowed his legs, and gave three distinctive grunts through his nostrils. He dug at the ground a bit with a front hoof and then took to stomping around and around the harlequin in loud, forceful steps. And when he caught eyes with the other pony again, this time he bobbled his head in an excited nod.

~~~~~~He inwardly hoped his skill at charades was as good as his apparent skills in gymnastics! For Pierrot knew no other way to say without words that he was quite male and that the jester had been sadly mistaken.
~~~~~~What in Seraphim's name was this little pony doing? Flirting with him first, then stomping around angrily? And what, exactly, did all the nodding and head shaking mean?

~~~~~~Maksim was not used to being so perplexed but, right at that moment, he was very, very puzzled. Did this pony not speak? Was she just as confused as he was? It certainly seemed that way.
~~~~~~But when Pierrot didn't stop, and continued to repeat both gestures -- complete with the head shaking and nodding -- it struck Maksim like a strong kick to the face.

~~~~~~"You're male," Maksim said, flatly. And as his statement was met with several overly exaggerated nods, Maks realized his first assumption about Pierrot was incorrect. Not a female tumbler, no matter how pretty of a pelt he had.
~~~~~~"Many apologies, then, Pierrot," Maksim went on, a bit of a smile creeping back onto the end of his snout. "I am very sorry." Nodding a little himself, Maks stepped forward to give the smaller pony's shoulder a friendly nudge with his own. "I am also Maksim. And if you promise to keep this... exchange... quiet, just between the two of us, I have a proposition for you. You see, I think I'm in need of a performance partner...."
