Misuki Marishima
A Wii MMO? There's no way I'll be able to access that! First off, I'm already playing an MMO and second, even if I didn't have a regular one to sink spend my time on in the evenings, the big TV is always hogged so I'd never get it to myself. gonk

And with both the online FF MMO's being flops (XI didn't do too well, but I didn't know that FF XIV was an MMO too. The More You Know.)

As for the statistics discussed earlier: That's in Japan, where this game is all the rage. I'm fearing how it will do in NA markets because it's not as hot of an item here, so I don't know if we'll have the huge band of users using multiplayer at the same time.

I don't know if it will come to our shores, and if it does, I'm not sure how it will do in the market.

Ah, I sound too negative, don't I?

I was actually fearing the same thing. Especially depending on the level of the things only available to you via online content and not single player questing (DQIX has a main campaign that took me... I don't know... 35 hours to get through? And the stuff after that that involved DLC quests and grottos took up all the rest of my 300+ hours). And DQIX was given a good marketing shift over here, not to mention all the fans VIII drew in. I think the best thing for X to have over here would be a strong single player campaign in addition to the online stuff, so that people can enjoy it alone first and online second, and if more people are enjoying it alone, more people will be around for online play too. ANd you can create up to 3 characters of your own, like in DQIX. So I do think DQ is more popular then it has been before over here... But that's sadly still not that much compared to other series.

Even if it does look pretty cool and we accept the MMO for what it is, I wonder if the game will even be released over here. I remember hearing that, in fact, Square Enix didn't want to release the game over here, but Nintendo did want to release it. I don't know if that still holds true or not. But right now that's my main concern regarding DQX.

And by the by, I really like that new trailer, and the designs for the 5 tribes. They all look suitably Toriyama-esque, and they are very varied in their clothing and appearances. I want to see worlds. I want to see the world! I want to traipse all over DQVIII-esque fields again!

We've been recently graced with a 11-minute promo for Dragon Quest X

While I still think the game looks fine from here, gameplay experimentation or no, My main concern is still that we won't get it.

From the site linked (There's more on the site proper):

11-minute video introduces various aspects of upcoming online RPG

Square Enix's official YouTube channel began streaming an eleven-minute-long promotional video for its Dragon Quest X: Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online role-playing game on Thursday. The video introduces various systems and aspects of the game, including character creation, combat, partying, and crafting.

The game will ship in Japan on August 2, and the regular version of the game will cost 6,980 yen (about US$86), while the Wii disc plus USB memory version will cost 8,980 yen (US$111). Both versions will include a ticket for 20 hours of free gameplay. Subscription fees will be 1,000 yen (US$12) for 30 days, 1,950 yen (US$24) for 60 days, and 2,900 yen (US$36) for 90 days. There will also be a two-hour "Kid's Time" between 4 and 6 p.m. from Monday to Friday and 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday where players will be able to play the game without a subscription.

Wow that's a steep price. Plus online play... And you can only play the first few hours offline... Makes me wonder even more if we'll see it.
"Kids time" seem like an interesting idea. I know I'd take advantage of those if it does come over. It's like a free to play game with pay to play benefits, I guess. And if people get invested, they'd want to play more hours and on their own schedules, so they'll pay for the whole deal. I do wish it could be played more offline, though, but we'll see how being nearly constantly online is implemented into the game proper.

The character designs and worlds look bright and varied and colorful, very appealing. Typical fantasy races like Elves and Dwarves have their own flair instead of being the typical fare, but we'll see what's up with them when the game proper comes out.
