rap is a very different form of unit to were with most rappers it isn't the beat that's important next time you listen to a good rapper listen to the lyrics sometimes it's hard i know when i join the military i really listened to the lyrics and not so much the beat Joe Buddin, Eminems more serious, Biggie, 2-Pac. trust me majority are some ignorant @$# (don't mean to be raciest) black peoplethey really are but even Lil Waynes got some deep songs out too it's like reading a poem really you can't view it one angle the guy had to make it rhyme so sometimes it can be seen and more then just one perspective.

I'll just let the music speak for itself. BusdriverAesop RockDeltron 3030SpecificsEyedea & AbilitiesProtip with Hip-Hop: stay away from what's mainstream in Hip-Hop because you'll find it's just saturated with garbage. Looking for good Hip-Hop is like digging through a landfill to look for diamonds: there's a lot of crap in the way, but it's well worth the effort once you find the real gems.

i agree with ethereal; you've gotta sort through the fluff to find what's worth listening too. i find it's much the same with other genres; most of what's commercially successful i just find too... watered down or vanilla for my tastes. so you won't find me listening to lil' wayne OR justin bieber.
but i think hip-hop really suffers a bad image because of the messages being put out by those mainstream commercially successful artists.
anyway, in terms of hip-hop, i really enjoy nujabes and matisyahu.

Would M.I.A. or Azealia Banks be considered good rap? Personally i like A.B's "212" video.
And M.I.A.'s "Paper Airplanes".

Anything with a beat is music. Whether it's good music is a bit more open to interpretation. I like some artists.

I pass, like night, from land to land; I have strange power of speech; In the '80s, when rap was first emerging, I listened to it and liked it. Now it seems like it's all gangsta, drugs & sex, so I don't listen to it anymore. My kid likes Nikki Minaj, but we only let her listen to the clean versions, and even those impart messages I'd rather she not hear. But love it or hate it, it's presently popular and probably going to be around for quite some time.
That moment that his face I see, I know the man that must hear me: To him my tale I teach." - Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Rime of the Ancient Mariner
