Considering the fact Human immunodeficiency virus causes the immune system to be very weak and vulnerable, you probably already know this, but, try to keep him away from sick people and avoid him getting sick or It could be realy bad.And um,I really hope things work out well for you two and that everything will be okay.

I'm not here to ask if I should stay with him, I love him and would no matter what he had... I'm just worried. What are the fatality rates? His doctor said he probably won't live past 40... but I also think his doctor isn't the brightest crayon in the box...

And with the speed Medical Science is progressing, there is a good chance that good treatments will come out before that, if not a cure...

He's also seeing another doctor about it, encased that one really was an idiot.

My uncle has HIV.
You can't eat anything raw.
For example, eggs have to be fully cooked (The whites)
the yoke can only be a little runny
and i agree with the doctor, they don't live a full life. My uncle is the youngest out of my dads brothers. My dad is the eldest, and he's always talking about how my uncle will probably die before himself.
It's quite sad, so spend as much time with them as you can. Make sure he takes his meds... etc.

I feel for you my friend. The uncle who has HIV is my favorite, and i don't want to lose him too soon. :c

t really does interfere with your life, the antiretrovirals put you on a very strict schedule, etc.

It's passed by sharing body fluids, so the basic, don't have unprotected sex, be careful cutting yourselves, and don't use the same razor applies. However, kissing is fine. It would take absorbing something like two liters of his saliva into your bloodstream for it to have any kind of chance to pass to you. Though, obviously, you may want to check about open sores.

Basically, what they're going to be trying to do right now is keep it as HIV- the form where it's not actually making you sick. at all.

When it turns into AIDS, which is basically a huge spike in the amount of it in your system, that's when it really starts to be dangerous. Thing is, that you can live for a good twenty years with HIV before it ever even shows.

However, once it does, any little illness becomes deadly. Like, he can't catch a cold, because it will kill him.

Actually, the most painful thing is not the disease itself so much as the constant treatments, but they're super-important because they try to keep the virus down.

Hopefully, fingers crossed, by the time it starts being deadly for him, we'll have a cure.

I just wanted to make a quick update

It turns out his doctor actually WAS an idiot... and he has HPV not HIV ^^

So I am very happy about this, as HPV is usually cured by the body in a year or 2.

That is great news! HIV really does interfere with a person's life. I've had friends with HIV and AIDS. So much of their lives had to be structured around risks, nutrition and health. The depression gets really bad too.
My sister used to work with the American Foundation for AIDS Research and many of her coworkers were HIV+ or had full blown AIDS. Her job became a constant heartache from losing friends to AIDS

HPV is still something to be concerned about. It can cause cervical cancer, PID and genital warts and some strains of HPV can be transmitted non-sexually. Moisturizing hand sanitizer would be good to have.
I'm guessing he doesn't have to worry about his cervix, but if has contact with females -friends, family, etc, - he could put them at risk.
Men still have to watch out for genital warts -treatment is surgical cutting, burning or freezing.

An HPV vaccine that covers several strains is available, but they generally don't give them to anyone over 20.
The HPV vaccine is not (as far as I know) available for men and it is harder to get if you live in religious and/or conservative places, like many place in the south. I had no trouble getting the vaccine for my kids, but Hawaii is pretty liberal compared to a lot of the US

I'm really glad that it's not HIV and I hope that the HPV doesn't have any complications for either of you either

It is also important to note that HPV can cause oral cancers as well, which men do have to worry about. And congrats, BTW! blaugh
