stare So, lets debate this here and now!

I think manga is better is because it gives more to the story. Where as when an anime is made based off of a manga, several good points in the story are often cut out. There by making people, like me, very confused during most animes based off of a manga.

What are your thoughts?

I think it varies.
For the sake of argument, I believe we can all agree that filler is necessary for a manga to catch up to anime (as an episode can use up about 3 chapters).

For certain series such as Shaman King, , Zatch Bell, Soul Eater, and Hitman Reborn, the anime rushes to a conclusion before the manga ever finishes, often leading to disappointing endings (in the cases of Soul Eater, Zatch Bell, and Shaman King).

Other times a series might look completely different as an anime than as a manga, such as one of my personal favorites, Toriko. The manga is terrific and imaginative, but I simply cannot bring myself to watch the anime.

However, I HAVE found an anime that, based upon my findings, is somewhat better in ending than the manga, while still keeping many details. The series is MAR, and while the manga ending is alright, I have to deal with the future spin-off with it. the anime had a nice climax and ending, and apperantly filler that was alright (and details eclusive to the anime that were pretty good).

I tend to read more manga than watching anime (with yugioh series being the main exception), but in this instance it is also important to note that sometimes the anime and manga can have COMPLETELY different storylines and many different details.

I have yet to watch true anime, but RomeoxJuliet is manga based off of the anime, and in Japan, there's a novel version. How bout that for busy?
it's based off of Romeo and Juliet (duh) but there are plenty of differences, if you're up for reading it. it's cool, though

Don't worry~she's always like that

Mangas have more detail than the anime like usual, some of the anime miss parts of the greatest scenes that the mangas have and mangas are more continuous than anime~ ;D those are my thoughts xD

It varies from series to series. For example, OHSHC. The anime really tightened up the jokes and the art, and gave the characters so much more dimensionality with the animation acting. Its ending was satisfactory, leaving the viewer to imagine who would end up with Haruhi rather than picking for them and leaving behind unhappy/outraged viewers. I prefer the OHSHC anime to the manga.

For the Hero Tales anime and the first incarnation of Fullmetal Alchemist, though, I preferred the manga to the anime. Those are perfect examples of what happens to an anime that gets ahead of the manga's storyline. Everything, in short, goes to s**t. The author had a clear plan for their manga that got muddled up in the anime.

For D. Gray Man, I also prefer the manga to the anime. There is so much potential to add to the manga's story through animation that the anime did not exploit. Often, it looked as if they used every panel from the manga as key frames, especially in fight sequences, rather than storyboarding from scratch.

Most of the time the manga is better, but I'd rather read a novel if I'm going to read something. I watch anime because it looks good. Sure, I'd like the story to be on the same level of its manga counterpart, but it doesn't always happen.

I'd say manga, but sometimes I just find the anime more interesting, like I like Soul Eater's anime better because I think it's over-all visuals are better drawn than the manga.

As others have mentioned, it depends on what it is.

Darker Than Black (DTB) originated as an Anime series and later was transferred into Manga form. In my opinion, the Anime is better then the Manga version.

However, though it was nice to see how this next manga was transferred into an anime, I have to say the manga was still much better. Though I guess I should give the name of the anime/manga. It's Deadman Wonderland. (DMW / DW)

Also, there is an Anime series called Durarara (Drrr being one of it's nicknames) that started off as a Short novel (a series of short novels I believe) and then came out as a volume or a few volumes of manga (from what I saw at the book store a while back) where the anime is much better then the manga in my opinion, but I've yet to read the short novels. I want to.

Now I agree that there is more detail in manga, which makes them better when it comes down to it, but Anime versions have something that the manga can't quite beat and that's actual movement and action. I guess it all depends though, because some anime suck at animation, and detail. -.-

So I don't really see how there is much competition between the two, I just choose whenever it comes to whatever it is that I'm watching/reading.

Of course it's quite a bit different when a written book is transferred into a movie of sorts. I usually hate it because they leave out so many details it makes it completely useless to watch in my opinion. There are a few I still enjoy of course because though they leave some details out understandably, their animation is pretty good and their choice of actors is decent.

An example of a hated book/movie transfer (despite my liking the dragon) is Eragon.

Seeing as so many anime are based off manga, yet cut out a good deal of the story/side-story and yet still manage not to carry the story to completion, I'll take manga every time.

Plus there's the benefit of having to conform to neither broadcast regulations nor air-time constraints (trying to fit everything into a 30 or 60 minute block, I mean).

Most of the time I would say I like manga better mostly because it tends to be more graphic than the anime. I like blood and gore... not censored s**t. There is one anime I think portrays the manga fairly well; Hellsing Ultimate.

I'd say manga is the best of all. Anime is for just for fun stuff, like listening to the opening and ending theme song. Hearing each character's voices, how they move and whatnot.
Awhile back when I was a kid I didn't know about mangas, but then when the anime version of Ultra Maniac came out, the ending was okay. But it didn't give me that happy feeling, it was kind of boring...?
Then my friend introduced me to this manga site, where you can read free mangas, and you wouldn't have to buy mangas from stores everyday because it was so expensive in every bookstore...
So, I searched the anime, Ultra Maniac, and I was so surprised that it had a lot of chapters compared to the anime version. So I read it, after reading, I came to love mangas more than anime honestly speaking.
The ending of Ultra Maniac made my heart raise, and it was really addicting.
It was addicting to read, and to be intrigued by the artist's art skills as well.
Therefore, manga is better than anime.
