Would you have a hard time if your dad was called as Bishop?
Yes, I know how you feel.
No, God calls whom he calls. It is right. Nuff Said.
I do not know my dad.

and I am SO glad. Basically, we have known they were about to call a new Bishop (very sad and hard for me because our Bishop is AWESOME.) and there was talk that it might be my dad. Now, I really do love my dad, but mostly just because he is my dad. We don't really get along. And I think he would offend a lot of people.

I know if he HAD been called, it would have been a calling from the Lord. But I have to say it would be a struggle with my faith.

Instead, he was just called as the Ward Clerk. sweatdrop So grateful.

I voted yes, just because, I highly doubt my dad would ever get called as a bishop...unless he converted to the Church. My dad is a devout protestant and turns his nose up to and snubs any Church different than his own. Now, if he were a member and the calling was extended to him to be bishop, I don't think he'd make a good one, because my dad is not the greatest with words and tends to just brew on things rather than help people solve issues. Plus, he's got the type of attitude that says that you only need to spend the hour in church and go home and when one is in the calling as bishop, it doesn't really work that way. Being bishop is like taking on another full time job on top of the one you already work.

Sometimes people get callings to help others, and sometimes they get callings to help themselves. "Whom the Lord calls, He qualifies"
President Eyring gave a really good talk about that in conference after he was called to the first presidency. Maybe the reason your dad wasn't called was because of the flaws you mentioned, but if he was called it could have very well been for him to improve himself and grow into the calling. Also, with the burden placed on the bishop and his family, there is also an outpouring of blessings as the calling is magnified, as with any calling.

my dad isn't Mormon yet, so he wouldn't be called as a bishop

My dad was inactive (I put was because he *says* he's going to church) so I guess it would be possible in the future for him to be called.

I would have a hard time with it. It's hard to have a parent in a position like that, well, especially that one. Congrats for his calling though, I am sure he'll enjoy it.

Although, Ward Clerk seems to be at the building as long as the Bishop, but at least he gets to sit with you in Sacrament Meeting XD

Actually, he stays on the stand. I am sure that's not how they do it in all wards, but it is how things are done in ours. Oh well. I don't really mind, though I think my mom does. At least we can sit with each other.

Yeah that's really up to the bishop. I've been to tons of wards, some Clerks sit in the stand, some don't.

My dad's been excommunicated a couple of times, so if he ever got called as Bishop, I'd have to wonder what was going on. If he was called, though, I wouldn't have too much of a problem with it, since I don't live with him and he's re-married. Well, I mean that I wouldn't have a problem other than the reaction of: "Who did my dad bribe/kill to get that calling?" Though the Lord is forgiving, my dad's unrepentant, so I don't think I'll ever have to worry about it. My uncle was called as a bishop, though, but he was released pretty quickly because he has six kids and they were all over the place. My poor aunt....

My older brother's our Branch President. It's interesting, what with our sibling rivalry/first-born vs. youngest/ect..... But I gotta say, It's made me stronger. Having a family member in leadership position over you really makes you put your pride and nepitism on hold.
I love my dad but he's a simple old cowboy and I'm a young know-it-all rock-kid. I think it would be he same though. I have to trust that he's going to do his job to the best of his ablility and our whole family would be blested regardless of how little time he might get to spend with us.
