Sparrow was starting to calm down as she read over her speech. It seemed simple enough. She had written it herself and had prepared it. Sparrow decided to just get it over with. That was better than waiting and just getting more nervous. She stood up and walked to the front of the class. Clearing her throat she started her speech, "Plate tectonics is a muggle Theory that the continents were once one huge super-continent called Pangaea. The man that began this theory is Alfred Wegener. Alfred Wegener was the first man to propose the theory of plate tectonics."

She paused for a minute trying to remember what came next and as she became more relaxed allowed her voice to easily spread over the room and to look at all parts of the room and the people in it," In 190sev..1911, he read a paper that listed identical fossils of plants and animals found on opposite side of the Atlantic, and he looked for more of such organisms. At his time, such cases were explained by postulating land bridges which do not exist now. However, Wegener found that coastlines of South America and Africa match closely. As evidence he suggested the similarity of large-scale geological features on separate lands, such as Appalachian Mountains of North America and Scottish Highlands. He also suggested that indicated climate of the place fossils were found often differs from the climate of today."

She paused slightly again thinking this was harder than she though and tried to remember all the numbers she had written down," Those evidences lead him to publish Wegener's theory of continental drift in 1915. In the book The Origin of Continents and Oceans, he wrote about 300 million years ago, continents were a single mass, Pangaea, which had split and lifted, and the pieces had been moving since then. However, his theory was lack of explanation of how the continents move. He explained it that it was through the earth's crust and centrifugal and tidal forces that move the pieces. But as opponents said, it was a mistake. On the other hand, there were supporters of the theory."

Sparrow took a slightly longer pause trying to remember the name of the man which had supported Wegener. She continued a bit slower as she tried to remember it, "One of the supporters, geologist... Alexander Du Toit, used it to explain the similarity of strata and fossils of Africa and South America."

Sparrow stuck in a natural pause before starting her conclusion. "Though Wegner's theory did not get enough support during his life time, it is now accepted by almost all geologists, and helped scientists to explore the Earth's crust, and ocean floor." Sparrow finally finished and took a deep breath glad to have gotten that over with. She had almost forgotten a few things put she pulled through. She had left out a few parts but they were not her main or most important details. Overall Sparrow thought she did pretty well and she hoped the professor would agree.

((Umm I don't know if I should ask to go or not since you said you won't be here... So just yell at me if you know lol Oh it looks really long ninja I hope you don't mind lol I tried to stick some roleplaying in and use my public speaking skills i learned this year but it was harder to type them then to actually do them lol))

( umm, can I do a speech about something in Philippines? razz )

Devon kept a faint smile, listening to Sparrow's long, yet informative speech. "I wonder if I'll share something about my Phil. culture? Well, I grew up in England, but I did spend my summer last year with 'lola'(granny)" he thought, crossing his arms over his chest?

Catalina smiled in approval. "Bueno, Senorita Sparrow. Excellent job." She patted the young girl on the shoulder and sent her to her seat.

"Who is next?" Catalina asked the group, eying the clock on the wall in front of her. They were running out of time.

(Devon, you can talk about the Philippines, but remember, you are a first year, who has spent the year studying about history. Your speech should cover something historical.)

( Sure thing. 3nodding lol but I'm not that good in making speeches. )
Devon raised his hand and said. "Me, professor."

He hurriedly stood up, taking a deep breath as he made his way in front. "You can do this... Just remember your ole Philippine history..." He thought, facing the class with a slightly nervous smile.

He placed his hand over his mouth as he cleared his throat, and after that, he began to speak clearly."So, I'm going to share bits of history from my country, the Philippines. Basically, I'm going to discuss with you the earliest history dated about the settlers in the Philippines." He paused for a minute, and continued his speech.

"In my year in Durmstrang, we don't really study about Muggle-related thing, but from what I've learned in my former Muggle school, the earliest archeological evidence for man in the archipelago is the 40,000-year-old Tabon Man of Palawan and the Angono Petroglyphs in Rizal, both of whom appear to suggest the presence of human settlement prior to the arrival of the Negritos and Austronesian speaking people." He kept his eye contact to his classmates in front of him, gesturing with his right hand.

He spoke again after pausing for a second. "The Negritos were early settlers but their appearance in the Philippines has not been reliably dated and they were followed by speakers of the Malayo-Polynesian languages, a branch of the Austronesian languages, who began to arrive in successive waves beginning about 4000 BCE, displacing the earlier arrivals." Devon almost felt a bit dizzy, knowing he wasn't that much used to speak to a large crowd such as the class. He was often a quiet boy in class.

"By 1000 BC. the inhabitants of the Philippine archipelago had developed into four distinct kinds of peoples: tribal groups, such as the Aetas, Hanunoo, Ilongots and the Mangyan who depended on hunter-gathering and were concentrated in forests; warrior societies, such as the Isneg and Kalingas who practiced social ranking and ritualized warfare and roamed the plains; the petty plutocracy of the Ifugao Cordillera Highlanders, who occupied the mountain ranges of Luzon; and the harbor principalities of the estuarine civilizations that grew along rivers and seashores while participating in trans-island maritime trade"He stopped for a minute to remember the facts, and continued as he smiled at the class. "Around 300–700 CE. the seafaring peoples of the islands traveling in balangays began to trade with the Indianized kingdoms in the Malay Archipelago and the nearby East Asian principalities, adopting influences from both Buddhism and Hinduism... So, this ends my short report, professor Catalina."

He looked at her, giving off a small sweat drop at the side of his head. "I'm sorry if I slack in your class most of the time... But Muggle Studies is actually an important class to me.... Thanks so much for the things I have learned here, ma'am." Devon said with a slight grin at the professor, waiting for her response.

Catalina cocked an eyebrow, surprised at the caliber of speeches she was hearing. "Excelente," she purred when Devon had finished. "You all are doing a fantastic job so far." Her plump, pink lips formed an approving smile in his direction.

Sparrow grinned as she finished and took her seat. It had not gone bad at all. She then listened as the next presentation went on and nodded. It was pretty good and fascinated her. She wondered who would go next. Muggle studies was a nice subject and could be useful eventually.

Devon smiled back at his professor, going back to his seat as he said. "Thanks, professor."

He sat back to his seat, waiting for the next one.

Catalina clapped her hands together. "Well, that appears to be the end of our year together." She sighed. "I am very proud of each of your progress, and ojala que next year will be even better. Have a wonderful summer," she said in her husky voice.

With that, class was dismissed. Never one for goodbyes, Catalina disappeared in her office before her students could approach her.

~~~
The classroom was empty, and the gnawing feeling inside Catalina persisted. She didn't have to wait to see her students again. There was that silly ball they were having...
Moved, the teacher went to a storage closet in the office and pulled out a wooden box containing some precious items. Inside were some traditional southern Spanish linens. They were patterned after some Moorish clothing found in Andalusia. The thirty-year old put them on and went to join the party.
Catalina had ignored the slight headache she had from the ball's revelries and packed all of her books, maps, and chalk. She was sad to be leaving, yes, but she hoped next year she would have the whole year to endear muggles into her students' hearts.
Indeed, her yearly stay with the Fernandez family was always useful in discovering new points of interest for her students. It never surprised Catalina how ingenious muggles could be.
Stacking her suitcases into position, the profesora packed her wand safely into one of the smaller cases. She would not need it where she was going. Not for a while at least. Catalina placed her emerald head-wrap over her loose, onyx locks. It was already a warm summer day, and it would be ever hotter where she was going. Her green traditional Spanish outfit would keep her cool, if not, there was always a cool bath waiting.
The lithe woman lifted the many bags with more ease than one would expect, and she gracefully floated out of her classroom, locking the door behind her with a sigh.
