He's so set on his ways but he's so damn good. Most of his latest albums have not impressed me. What does everyone else think of him? And have you seen the new ipod commercial he did?

I think that Winton was a great contributor to the jazz genre. I don't think jazz would be the same without him. I haven't heard his recent albums, tho. Maybe he's getting old? I haven't seen the ipod commercial he did. I'm surprised he would've done it, but I guess everyone just cares about money these days(Got money to advertise, but doesn't get money from album sales cuz of downloading)......Weird how the world works.... confused

Good musician, not sure as a person, possibly going through some quantity not quality times.

I think wynton marsalis is too damn cocky! He did this jazz instruction thing once... and made a tape of it... and it was worse than retarded. He was like... "There are three parts to a song..." I mean... like we were second-graders that just picked up a recorder. So no, I don't.

Agreed, I can think of a whole list of trumpet players who: 1. are better than him, and 2. have done the things he has done decades before.
People such as Charles Tolliver, Lee Morgan, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard and Nat Adderly can kick his trumpet-playing rear any day of the week.

He's nice person from what I've seen of him but he really enjoys the old stuff. He likes to do things from the past again and really doesn't focus at all on more modern jazz. He's good if you want to hear Ellington again but for more modern stuff he's not the one to turn to.
