Not everyone can just up and leave the country to do missionary work, nor is that the only spiritual thing a person can do.
Some people have their families to support.
I'm not saying college is the best choice for people who don't need it but my main point was was that a person with JUST a GED who is having trouble getting hired by even as simple of a place like Dollar General to SUPPORT theirself or their family to LIVE it would probably be of benefit to go to college after getting said "diploma".
My family might be out of a house this coming Summer if I don't get a job by then. But GED recipients are bottom of the barrel, dime a dozen. =/

I don't know what it's like where you live... but I believe there are just as many jobless/low wage jobs GED grads as well as a college or university grads. College doesn't MEAN anything... It's the EFFORT employers see.. If you haven't done anything at all for schooling or self improvment, then I can see reason to not get a job (other than the obvious reason that there is a lack of jobs in the first place and lack of or holding back of funding to support new companies and to keep then in the country - relating to what Azkeel said in previous post). But even a GED is good enough to get a job as long as you do other things to back it up.. A lot of jobs come down to WHO you know as well, and persistence! Most people don't even know to follow up with a call a few days later or even to ask for a manager/human resources instead of giving their 'resume' to a cashier or something..

All I can say is try and support what you believe in, and use your money as wisely as you can to help grow the businesses that we do need.

I'm still up in the air about what schooling to use for my family; I'm pretty much going to wait and see what happens over the next year or two before I completely decide. >< We'll see where we end up...

I'm happy this thread has gotten so much attention though ^-^ gimme more facts or potential outcomes to ponder! biggrin

That's horrible I'm sorry. The reason I'm pushing for an Exodus is due to my belife on what will happen in America. But a G.E.D. shows that you are at least smart enough to take a test to show you're smart enough. You're capable of taking college classes with a G.E.D. I dropped out in 10th grade then took that quick baisic life support class. I can't get a normal job because I'm over quallified and the people hiring are afraid to hire me cause I could take their job. See how college might even hurt you for the only jobs out there which are service jobs...

How about this for everyone; I'll head south and start somthing along the lines of even a refugee camp; so if things hit the fan I can send everyone my cordinates and you all can come down. I may be going to Peru. First Mexico, but I plan on heading further south.

excuse me for this, but DID ANYONE EVEN THINK ABOUT WHY PPL ARE HOMESCHOOLED?!?!?!
the five years of homeschooling saved me from being known as the depressed crybaby. I was just diegnossed(sp) with anxeity disorder, depression, and ADHD. My mom choose to homeschool me until I wanted to go to public school, pubic school sucked for me. now i'm going to a privite high school which has a small enviroment which makes me blossom

That's a good reason too; definitely not the Only reason why- but a reason nontheless. The child can go at their own speed of learning - as well as own speed of socializing... I would have greatly appreciated and benefited from that in school :/ perhaps wouldn't have had such a horrible time. who knows --- but schooling, no matter the type, can be a win or a fail situation, depending what you get out of it and how well you are able to focus and get to where you want... if you don't try in public school, you're going to fail. if you don't try in homeschool, it will be the same. Really, we need to make sure our kids have the proper nutrition and bases of home life, in order to make the best of whatever schooling situation they are in. And monitor the curriculum and how the child is learning/not learning, to hopefully be able to adjust things accordingly.. *shrug*

it's been a while since i logged in to gaia.. don't mind my random reply here~

schooling is top of my mind lately, preparing for what i want to do with my daughter. she's already friggin amazing. if i continue to do well at my new business, i'll be able to homeschool hopefully as i will be working from home. w00t. smile we'll see. still weighing the options of unschooling/homeschooling, also with the use of social programs around here.. smile there seems to be a large base of homeschoolers in my area, i think i'm pretty lucky.

just remember that you can't succeed if you don't even try...
