I am frustrated that there isn't more chat here, you guys keep pulling me back to gaia, and it's really you people here that make me want to come back, the rest here is fluff...and I prefer less fluff. In pillows, weight and life, too bad it doesn't always work out that way.
So, I made okonomiyaki for dinner today and it was SO delicious, my family loved it. I like to try new things, and I have a penchant for all things Asian, so this dish was something I've wanted to try, but who knew it'd be SO good! It's made with mostly cabbage, mixed with a kind of batter for stick, cooked on a griddle with bacon slices on one side, and with a yummy brown sauce on it and then special mayo...my kids would normally tell you they aren't cabbage fans, and they were all kinda scared to try it, but they all liked it, so yippie!
Yeah, there isn't a question here, just a statement...feel free to respond however you want, but please respond!

Usually when I hear asian and bacon together, I think it is a misuse of bacon. I love them both, but have yet to have something that combined them in an appetizing way.

I love them both, but have yet to have something that combined them in an appetizing way. this would be the very appetizing combo you were looking for! You can use other items besides the bacon, squid, shrimp, a different cut of pork (belly) but the bacon is easiest for me to get/use of course. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1503209061846&set=a.1446022112208.2062415.1282806651If you have a FB account, you would be able to see my pics of it done...the bacon is on the top of the patty thinger, and then the sauce and mayo was over the top...Mmmmmm did you have a nice Christmas?

Yeah, there isn't a question here, just a statement...feel free to respond however you want, but please respond! I saw pictures!!!! It looked SOOOooo nommy! And SOUNDS nommy too! I justgot my 3rd christmas present book in the mail today!! And I LOVE it! biggrin (When they were ordered, one couldn't make it before Christmas) 'Language of Flowers' by Kate Greenaway. It's INCREDIBLY tiny!!! I thought it would be normal book size, but it's actually pretty much pocket sized (a wee bit taller, and an even smaller bit wider that what I would officially consider pocket size). The best part, is that it's listed the flowers, and then their meaning, followed by a REVERSE look-up! So you can look up what you want to say, and find the flower to say it!!!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin SOoooooooo loving this book! It also has poems and songs (and a story or two I think) in the very back, all about flowers! biggrin heart heart heart It's also got such lovely victorian-esque pictures inside as well! <3 I also got 2 other books for christmas! "Folklore and Symbolism of Flowers, Plants, and Trees" By Ernst & Johanna Lehner I was somewhat disappointed in this book, having hoped for a bit more 'this is what it used to be used for' or the like. Where as this seems to be based far more on the folklore bit that I originally thought it would be. and "Medieval Calligraphy: It's History and Technique" - by Marc Drogin Loved this book, too! <3 This is the one book that was exactly what I was expecting. It's got great information and fantastic how-to stuff, shows you how to make the letters, and what order to do the strokes in! biggrin (It's also a highly-recommended SCA scribal book). So I've been trying to practice that and such. biggrin

so your busy expanding your skills, how wonderful for you! I am not creative in almost any way, I admire that.
I bought one long overdue book for myself. The Princess Bride. I bought the anniversary edition DVD and remembered that I had looked years ago for this book but didn't get it and wanted it still, so I ordered it used off Amazon, and just got it the other day. I haven't read it yet, but I am expecting to love it, of course. Clearly my reading taste differs here form your in that this is total pleasure, not to learn anything useful!
I love the idea of your flower book. I think it'd be awesome to love up flowers and meanings that way, however I think most people wouldn't know what they mean if they got those flowers from you. I generally HATE getting flowers, they seem like a ginormous waste of money to me. I get some people like them, and they are a convenient gift to give, but I hate getting them myself. Do you enjoy getting them? What is/are your favorite flower(s)?

My eyes are too bleary with 'tiredy' to catch up with the conversation, but I love you for making okonomiyaki. I've wanted to try it since Ukyo from Ranma ½.

Kay - first off, that food you made?! That *IS* an art! Tastey, TASTEY are! biggrin <3 (Culinary arts - they be arts!)
Next, Ooooo!! The princess bride!! <3 That is the Second DVD I ever bought for myself! biggrin (at the same time as Robinhood: Men in Tights - both of which having been a few weeks after The Three Musketeers). <3 I LOOOOVE that movie! heart Sadly, my information on movies vs. books is very much lacking - so I didn't know it was a book ... Hmm .... to amazon.ca !
Anyways! xD (insert a 20minute or so delay here for amazon.ca)
Oh, don't put it like that! razz I don't read well (the way my brain works, alongside some medical stuff) - I can do it, it just takes me longer than your average person. So I don't actually 'read' much. But this is all, totally pleasure for me. biggrin (Well, okay, the calligraphy is for a project I'm working on ... but: crafty project = hobby = pleasure. 3nodding )
I love the idea that every flower has a meaning. I think I first got into it, the first time I saw the movie: "Kate & Leopold", (though I'd heard of such things before, then). There's a part in the movie where Leopold explains to Charlie how the bouquet he grabbed without a thought (while reading something) to give to the woman he wished to woo, said all the wrong things. "The orange lily implies extreme hatred. The begonia and lavender, danger and suspicion . . . every flower has a meaning. "
The Orange lily bit always stuck with me. biggrin And since then I've wanted to learn more about them.
If I were to send a gift of flowers with particular meaning - it depends on the context. If, say, I wanted to send them to a guy and didn't necessarily want him to know how detailed the thought was - I'd just send it as is. xD If, however, I were sending it to a friend, and it had meaning - I'd probably include a small flower card with an explanation on it, with what each flower represented and such. 3nodding
You really hate getting flowers? o.o
I guess I can understand that. I hate getting flowers when I knew they're expensive. rofl But I still appreciate them 3nodding And I like flowers, I think they brighten a room, (usually) smell nice [luckily I'm not allergic to any, that I know of], and are just really pretty to look at.
As for type - I am SUUUUUuch a stereotype. I LOVE red roses - but most specifically, I'm a HUGE fan of 1 single rose as a gift. 3nodding Not as big a fan of the multi-rose gift (especially since I know how expensive the darn things are). But I like most flowers. Anything that took more time than picking up a bundle of flowers from the grocery store, actually. rofl (so a small bundle of pink or red carnations are not high on my list). Unless they're those uber cute mini-carnations! Those are adorable. 3nodding

I love you people for talking to me!
@Gemstone, I saw ALL of Ranma, I am a HUGE anime geek, so I have seen WAY too many shows with Japanese food I've wanted to try, so it was good to make this. I can't believe how yummy it was though!
@Naito, Yeah, I really hate getting flowers, I always think "I'd rather have the cash"... sweatdrop I know, it's so unpopular to admit, but it just looks to me like throwing money away. I love plants though, but those aren't as popular to send unless its a funeral. mad
I actually wouldn't ever want roses either, they don't last long at all, I prefer lilies, I think they are awesome, or tulips, which I wish lasted longer. They are my fav to plant, but I've tried several times and the minute there aren't any more flowers, my hubby mows them down, so I kinda gave up growing plants outdoors. That and I'm really an indoor sort of girl, so I like my house plants. Most don't flower, other than my peace lilies (or Easter lilies they are sometimes called) but I really like the green.
Speaking of movies (in your post redface ) were you the one I saw saying somewhere how awesome Scott Pilgrim vs the World was? I was thinking it was someone here that said it, and I saw it today and LOVED it...That kinda dorky movie is so my thing... If it wasn't you, you should so get it... xd

I tried making it a few times, except was really lazy and just dumped everything in a pan, and also didn't have bacon (can't remember if I used anything else instead, maybe onions?). Ending up being cabbage wrapped with some kind of blob; was still good!

Even if it's 'here's $20 and a random cute little cheap thing that made me think of you' - I find that so much more enjoyable. 3nodding (Mind you - for the record, gift certificates/gift cards are always worse than just money. Because, not only is it money, it's money with a restriction! gonk ) It actually all depends on the roses! They can last quite a while. smile My ex bought me roses on 2 occasions, and they lasted weeks. smile However - lilies are also lovely! biggrin (Just not orange ones wink ) 'Shame about your plants getting mowed rofl Ah, Men. My Grandmother hired some help to weed her garden one year, and they pulled up some of the plants as well! gonk (one in particular I remember was one of my mother's vine-like plants [one of 3 slightly pricey ones she'd bought] ... she was a little upset, but understood that they didn't know, and that's how it goes). Nope - wasn't me! never heard of that movie ... however sounds like I may have to go look it up! biggrin

I like to look at flowers, I just hate to see them not last. crying I don't mind something cheap and/or something handmade, those are things that I treasure much more. I had a friend give me a hand embroidered dish towel that she said she KNEW wouldn't go with my kitchen, but it has a cherry blossom branch on it with a paper lantern hanging on it, which she knows how much I love that sort of thing, so while I know it didn't cost much and didn't even take too much of her time, I treasure it. I am actually debating even using it, I kinda don't want to ruin it, but there isn't any point not using it either, if it just goes into a drawer, it's useless.

Cool, I like embroidery also. It's something I recently picked up as a hobby. I was into crocheting (still am) but had no time to do it but I recently bought a crochet book to get me back into it again. I am having trouble finding some good embroidery stuff. 4laugh
