Hello, I am feeling stressed out and depressed. I am stressed out from my job it has been really busy lately. I am noticing when ever I deal with my family after I get back to my place I feel stressed. What is making me feel kind of depressed is not being able to spend Christmas and New Years this year with my gf. Both of us also really miss talking on Skype and seeing each others faces. Her computer is broken and may not be fixable. It would be awhile before she got a new one. We also just really love and miss each other. We still talk and text everyday. It is just hard right now. We both want to eventually meet person to person in real life. I live in Washington and she lives in Kentucky.
Does anyone else feel stressed out and depressed during the Holidays and what are ways to help feel better?

It's tough during the holidays, because everything is supposed to be drenched in cheer. The happier the setting, the heavier the depression gets. At least that's how it is for me. The guilt is a factor--why can't I be happy like everyone else, I'm such a downer, etc...
I hope you and your girlfriend will work things out. I wouldn't recommend cliging to her throughout the holiday season though.

Its always tough to when it comes to long distant relationships. That's why I don't follow that road anymore. I'm glad you found someone you can connect with. Just remember that it is a busy time of year. And so I would have to side with ghost3511 and recommend the same thing. You two should really try to be spending time with your families. I know it stresses you out and you might find more comfort talking to your girlfriend but its the right thing to do.

I used to get really depressed around the holidays because I thought that whatever mind-blowing happiness I saw on TV sitcoms was the norm. Once I lowered my expectations (but not too low that it's just an ordinary day), I've felt much better.

I'm stressed when celebrating the holidays, but after that, when nothing good happens, I feel depressed.
