S'kor watched as the other rider tottered across the stream. He caught his breath when D'lin almost feel in. Going for a dip to fetch him out wasn't on his agenda. Lucky the bronze rider recovered and made it across. He breathed a sigh of relief.
Moving down stream slowly and checking most spots for any mystweed. He brushed aside some leaf litter and something caught his eye. It was the shape he was looking for! Excited he went for a closer look. Unfortunately, it had died. Probably from being covered.
"Really?! Great, get it and bring it back!" S'kor straightened and stretched. "I found one too, but it's dead. Think it just died. If only I'd gotten here sooner." He was rather upset about it. Do not fret Mine. There will be others Came the soothing voice of his dragon. We have fed well and are coming back. I caught three. The greedy pride was foremost in his mindvoice.

"From what I've heard even finding one live sample between the two of us is pretty lucky" D'lin comforted the other rider. Honestly it had been chance that he'd wound up on this side of the stream and S'kor on the other. As far as he was concerned they'd both found it.
Kneeling to the ground he dug about in his bag, pulling out the tools the'd all been given to extract the plants in the event they found some. Carefully he uncovered and extricated the rootball, wrapping it safely in a damp cloth and then putting it in a second back where it would be safe.
'I only found two to my tastes..Scarath took three, but we're on our way back' Plexith informed his rider 'Good, S'kor and I have found a sample..I hope your not to full to fly back to the Weyr quickly' D'lin responded as he finished replacing the tools and retying his sack before glancing up at the sky to see the two dragons silhouetted against the sun as winged their way back 'of course not' the bronze decreed in a tone which indicated he'd never think to gorge himself that heavy.
"At least we won't be going back empty handed and the dragon's had a good time" He remarked as he made his way back to S'kors side of the stream.

He was amused by his dragon. Hopefully the wherries would sustain him for nearly a week. S'kor tried to ponder how that it was; dragons only needed to eat one or two times a week. He seemed to remember some of the smaller ones going more often. An advantage of being large maybe?
Leaving the dead mystweed behind, the man headed back toward the landing where the dragons had dropped them off. Watching D'lin working his mind wandered. At least they'd found one sample. That was better than coming back empty handed.
The sound of wings drew his attention. The bronzes were back. S'kor stood very close to the edge to avoid getting blow around by the winds of their backwinging. He nodded and grinned as D'lin echoed his exact thoughts.
"Scarath enjoys the change in taste from the beasts we have at the Weyr now and again. You're not going between with the sample are you? I've been wondering if other riders might have been returning that way. The cold could kill it before they even get it back." It sounded like a plausible theory to him anyhow.

"I had thought about that, it could be the reason so many of the samples have been doing so poorly" He remarked, though he rather hoped the other riders were a bit more careful then that...still once could never really tell and in the excitement of coming back with a live sample they might very well forget about how the cold of between could affect a small plant.
"I thought to fly back directly, will take longer but we're not to far out" He told the other rider, turning his head slightly to avoid the dust stirred up by the dragons arrival. "Plexith likes the change too - perhaps we should take them out hunting more often" He remarked with a fond look at his bronze .

"Hmmmm, might be something to mention to the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader. They could pass down a subtle hint to the searching riders." He grinned at the round about route to check the possible problem.
"That's good. We'll fly with you. Nah, not far at all." S'kor gestured to the two settled dragons. They should hurry and get the plant back before being out of the ground did it harm. The roots could potentially dry out, right?
S'kor watched Scarath out of the corner of his eye as D'lin suggested wild hunting more often. The large bronze's head came around to look at them. "I think that'd be well accepted. Pass word to Scarath from Plexith whenever you'd like to go out. We'll be ready."
"I think we should fly as low as we can. The higher we go up, the colder it gets. Not as cold as between for sure, but cold enough." He grinned. S'kor went to mount his dragon; boosted up by a lift from a foreleg. He secured his packs down tightly.

"Perhaps, or at least suggest they insulate the plants as well as possible against the cold if they absolutely have to go between for some reason" He added with a slight nod of agreement
"We'll have to take you up on that" He continued and really it would be good from the bronzes to get out and about a bit more now and again he figured as He mounted Plexith and made sure the bags was secure "And your right, lets keep it low, might as well give the plant the absolute best chance for survival that we can, ready?"

Roll one for severity, roll two for good/bad DM Random Event!
Not far from the pair of Bronzes, a Green whose eyes whirled a deep purple with lust hissed at her rider who was at his wit's end to control his proddy Green. "Helenath, not now!" Really, while he was hunting for mystweed, really? But Helenath had already blooded her kill, and like a shot she was off into the air, flying just past the Bronzes. T'roy threw his hands in the air in frustration, and then was swiftly caught up in the thrall of his Green's mating urges. Overhead, Helenath called a challenge to the Bronzes, daring them to chase her, to try to catch the Green that had launched a thousand shi-- who was faster by far than a pair of oversized males! They didn't stand a chance.

0.0 *falls over laughing* Do I need to roll anything for this? *clueless*
Flying along steadily and minding his own business it wasn't until the proddy green practically flew under his nose that Scarath realized the green was there. He bugled and answer to her challenge. Surprising S'kor as he dove and dropped the short distance to the ground. Off off off. He clearly wasn't going to pass up this chance.
S'kor had heard the green call, but hadn't thought much of it. That is until she came shooting past the bronzes. He barely had time to grab the riding straps before Scarath went for the ground. Knowing what his dragon wanted, there was nothing he could do but go along. As Scarath hit the ground his rider was fast unbuckling the straps to slide to the ground.
He hoped D'lin had better with Plexith.

Worst. Timing. Ever.
Was the first thought that came to D'lin's mind as the green shot past them and bugled her challenge. Plexith dove for the ground almost as quickly as Scarath 'Plexith..we don't have time for this, the sample needs to go back to the Weyr!' He tried to reason with his dragon as he landed.
'After' Plexith replied urging his rider to dismount. 'It's a green Plexith, not a gold...nothing at stake and it's all fun and games back at the Weyr but this is too important' D'lin insisted fighting against Plexith's desire in the best way he knew how by pointing out that it was a green and there for only 'practice' for a bronze..at least to Plexith's way of thinking.
Of course that didn't mollify the bronze whose competitive spirit made him want to give chase as Scarath had..if only to beat the other bronze. 'But Scarath has.. 'Scarath is not carrying the sample...and he's already far ahead this time anyways' D'lin pointed out, breathing out a sigh of relief when he felt the dragons desire to chase lessen, either because of his arguments or because he was using every bit of will he had to insist that he did not want Plexith to chase, at least with a geen he had the chance to talk the dragon out of it.
It was an internal battle but it seemed to work as Plexith''s eyes calmed somewhat, they still whirled with excitement but nothing like they had been a few moments ago. D'lin took the opportunity to speak with S'kor "I've managed to convince him the sample is more important then chasing a green...but I'm not sure how long my argument is going to hold up" He told the other rider - he didn't want to just leave him out here..but the green's rider had to be close "Are you going to be alright out here if we take the sample back?"

S'kor sighed. At least D'lin had had a chance to talk Plexith out of it. Maybe a stern word for the bronze would be in order when he got back. On the other hand, it didn't seem there were other dragons in the area. A green in a mating tizzing setting everyone off isn't what he wanted either.
"Good, that sample is important. Get it back as fast as you can. I'll be fine here and try to find the green's rider." He made shooing gestures to get rider and dragon on their way before Plexith's natural urges got the better of him. S'kor had a hunch that if the green hadn't flown right in front of Scarath he would have had a chance to talk him out of it too. Bleh.
