This guild gives me the overall idea that they're bad, and with so much talk about them I started wondering. I looked them up and anything I came across mostly said just that they're a fraternal group. I asked my mom and she said that my dad had joined it but quit really soon after, so what is it? I don't really want to ask my dad

i assume it's like any religion type thing... follow this or that if you want to live life to the fullest you're meant to.. yatta yatta.
except there are different 'levels' and certain information is only shared at higher levels... the lower levels don't really know what's going on in the big picture, also much of an assumption.
*shrug* why not ask your dad? just say you've been learning about different religions or groups and are curious about it..

A freemason is a person who's involved with Masonic secret societies.

Frankly, I know a couple freemasons, and I can assure you, they're not bad people, and they don't all support a one world dictatorship. That said, it IS a secret society, and as JFK warned, "Secrecy is repugnant"

For sure. My brother-in-law is a member.. I don't know his beliefs at all, but he is in no way a bad person.... he's also Mormon. I don't know how he can be both, but he is. *shrug*

I have no problem with people believing what they want, and following certain traditions, or certain rules, or whatever.... *as long as* it doesn't negatively affect others.

Secret societies and ones wishing to bring others' down just to see themselves rise is not my idea of 'good'..

My understanding is that Freemasonry is a largely Christian organization. I don't see why a Mormon couldn't be a member. A friend of mine that is a member explained to me that the main thing is that you believe in a higher power, a grand creator, etc. That would include a lot of different religions right there.

My grandfather is a mason and is pushing me into the thought of wanting to join when I get older.
