Nightmare, I throw alot of stuff away- or more like, I make a point to forget it. Besides that, many of my crappy old plots lasted about a day, before I moved onto something else.
I hardly ever look up name meanings because they're usually something good, and so far I haven't come up with any characters where thats an issue. But its a good point to consider. I should just make a list of all the things you say to me, cause most of them would really benefit me.

I put a lot of my writing advice in my journal (mostly so I do not lose it in my post history. XP). I need to add more to it, but I can start putting things you especially want to keep there so it is all in one place. XD

With the one story that I've been working on for years, it's become next to impossible for me to change things such as age for my characters (my co-writer and I did alter ages multiple times during the revision process, but now that we're actually working on a draft we both think will work, the ages are kind of set in stone) as well as most parts of appearances. Sure, we've changed a character's outfits a lot, but things like the color of hair and eyes and such are also generally set in stone. Scars and other major designs can be added if a situation calls for them (i.e., one of my characters now has a huge ugly scar running down his pretty face because of some fights). At this point I don't think I could change genders either, though we did that for a character who will appear in a later part of the storyline.

Names weren't that big of a deal to change when we first started out. All of my characters experienced name changes until I found ones that fit them, but by this point, their names are part of who they are. I'd feel weird changing them now.

Main personality traits are set, but I love throwing wrenches into plans in order to do things that would change how a character thinks. For example, one of my comic relief characters went through two years thinking the love of his life was dead, so he became depressed and cynical whereas before he would joke and laugh and take very little seriously. He's slowly regaining himself though, and it makes me happy because I've wanted sooo badly to have him crack a joke, only to realize that his current mood wouldn't let him do that. -is a huge fan of mentally scarring situations...-

Killing characters off is probably something I wouldn't be able to do without a lot of thought. I mean, yeah, my co-writer and I have a lot of their deaths planned out already but I'm not sure I'd be able to agree to kill one of them off 'before their time'...unless it became clear that it really was the best way to go about it. An example of this is something that just happened last night, where my co-writer and I came to the agreement that it would make more sense and add more depth to the story and relating characters if we killed off the wife and daughter of one of the main characters. Up to this point we had been anticipating them both being alive when they were finally found, but...yeah. I feel bad. XD

Long story short: If I feel that the story would be better off with something being changed, or a character being killed or leaving, then I will incorporate it (or at least test it out). However, I wouldn't do it for no reason because the characters are important to me.
