I recommend flute because it is a wonderfully versitile instrument I play it in jazz band, orchestra, marching band(at my old school), and concert band. it also just as easy to go from the flute to the sax as it is to go from clarinet to sax the hardest part is to "toughen up" your lips. sweatdrop I love the flute heart (her name is Tohru) heart so maybe i'm biased, but just because your BD isn't supportive doesn't mean you should give up. He probably has no idea how the flute works and is just trying to cover himself by blaming you.

i would recommend u stick with the clarinet b/c there would be a wider choice of instruments to change to ... if u started with the flute and wanted to change to a clarinet it would've been so much easier to change b/c of the different lip shape needed, but for sum reason harder the other way around if u really don't kno which to choose from double on it ^^ i did that for one year but on the clarinet and tenor sax and bass clarinet, it took more time and effort and practice but it worked, my band director allowed me to do that for band but i still have to choose one to major or get tested on - but either way if u put in the effort u'll be able to play any instruments u want regardless of which instrument u chose at the beginning

hmmmm i would say do what you want and don't let others influence yout oo much on your decision but you should take into concideration how many flautists or clarinets there already are if there are a lot of flutes stick with the calrinet if there are a lot of clarients stick with the flute your band director also might want you on a certain instrument for a reasno
