The adrenaline had worn off by now, and Ecthelion was finding it harder to make the word vomit come up. An awkward, uncomfortable silence fell as both of them ran out of things to say. Did she want him to leave her alone...? After all, she hadn't come out here to watch him topple out of trees, she'd come out here to be alone.
Being social was just too complicated. Rolling his shoulders uncomfortably as the silence became more and more prolonged, Ecthelion figured he was going to have to break it somehow or go crazy. "Erm, I can let you go, if you want...I mean, I don't mind the company of course, but I know that you...you know, came out here to be by yourself and all."

Cornelia was torn. On the one hand, she had just been wanting more time with her mate, but she hadn't expecting it to be so...awkward. If this is what she had to look forward to for the rest of her life...
Repressing a sigh, Neli shook her head and offered a little bit of a smile. "No, I don't mind you staying, unless you wish to go," she said, smiling a bit. It was kind of like a first date, she figured, all awkwardness included.

Ecthelion let out a small sigh of relief as Neli said she wanted him to stay around. "I think I'd liek the company," he said, smiling a little bit more now that he knew he wasn't bothering her. "I'm sorry I'm being awkward. I jsut...." he sighed and shook his head. "I just never really learned how to talk to anyone else. Talking in front of the whole tribe still makes me nervous."
Maybe it'd be elss awkward if they shared information from before she arrived at Hometree?

Neli tilted her head at him, ear flicking curiously. "It doesn't seem it," she said, not sure if it was still word vomit or if she was trying to make him feel better.
"But it's not just you," she added as a small afterthought, shaking her head at herself as a small smile came to her face. "I suppose I didn't learn how to do that either," she mused, tail flicking absently.
"Well, I suppose there's time to learn now, isn't there?" She asked, a small, hesitant smile coming to her lips. Yes--this was just like a first date.

"One of the hazards of this whole 'fate' thing, I guess." Ecthelion made a face at the word. Ohers glorified destiny and all that mess, but they didn't know what the hell they were talking about. Being alone until your adult life and then having to take some vixen who knew nothing about you and you knew nothing about as a mate was not what it was cracked up to be.
"I don't know about you, but I'm tired of having to learn how to do things," he chuckled.

Just hearing it said out loud was enough to make Neli realize that yes, she was tired of having to learn new things too. It was all too much--learning how to run a tribe, how to be a Shaman, and most of all how to be a mate. It was too much.
"I am too," Neli answered, her voice and expression showing her tiredness and just how much she agreed.

Ecthelion gave her a sympathetic look; the past few months had been overwhleming for him too. "Well, then as Elder I declare a day of not learning how to do things," he said in a mock serious voice. "And so np more talk about the tribe or the fact that I'm terrible at conversation."
The young (he was still young, wasn't he? He didn't much feel it) future Elder came to a halt in a clearing he used to a spend a lot of time in. It was a fair distance from Hometree, so at least they wouldn't be troubled by the others. More tired than he had realized before, Ecthelion wordlessly laid down, and hoped to himself that Neli would join him.
