Tally ran with Kaito. She wasn't going to be caught by these fools. Not while she had no idea what was going on. Maybe there were invaders and they needed to make sure that no terrorists were free in the city. They would release them when the trouble was over. It seemed reasonable and she would be willing to go if that were the reason. It meant that the safety of the citizens was a priority. From the looks on the faces of the people they passed she could tell that wasn't the case. Before they could take more than a few steps she could feel the heat on her back and the sound and smell of her hair burning as she used all the water she could gather to sink the fire benders feet into the soil and drying it to keep him there.

Azula had stopped on the way to the dungeons in the throne room to clear her head for a moment. She wanted to compose herself and be the most terrifying she could be for her brother. The flames around the throne rose and ebbed with her controlled breathing, bathing the walls in blueish light.
Then the doors were blown inward towards her. She reacted instantly, leaping off of the raised dais over the massive doors. With a flip in midair, she used the increased momentum of her fall to throw a fierce stream of flame at whoever was standing in the doorway. A slab of rock came up out of the ground to shield the attacker, and she landed on her feet.
"An Earthbender, eh? You're no match for me." She took in a deep breath, then let it out. Lightning sparked around her fingertips as she grinned devilishly. "Show me what you've got."

Exhaling as the rock crumbled a little under the flame Shoji cursed under his breath, his earth bending was probably less than it could be so he had no choice if he wanted to challange someone with her skill. Glancing at the ceiling he threw a hand up watching as the stone above the room began to crumble and fall hitting the floor as sand. Maybe he couldn't earth bend as well as a true master but few could match him when it came to sand bending and he doubted she had much talent in combating a sand bender. Jumping forward he swept his arms sweeping a wave of sand around him and riding it around her attempting to outmanuver her and find some kind of weakness in her defences. With the floor flooded knee deep in sand he'd have all the advantages in movement but he doubted she was that easy to overcome.

She definitely hadn't expected the Earthbender to reach up and turn most of the ceiling to sand. She used arcs of fire to block the sand that threatened to bury her. She managed to keep her torso clear, but her feet became buried.
The Earthbender was riding a wave of sand, avoiding her hurled fireballs and feinting at her. With a snarl, she punched the sand, focusing a blast of flame into it. The sand became superheated and melted into a glassy blob. She continued to do this, ignoring the singeing of her clothes. Azula was too lost in rage at being attacked by a mere Earthbender. Didn't he know that Fire was the superior element? Why did the whole world try to resist that?
"Your Majesty!"
A bright orange flame whooshed over her head, blasting apart the sand behind her. She looked up to see General Vahm in a fighting stance, features set in a dark scowl. With a roar, he began kicking balls of fire at the Earthbender. His footing on the sand wasn't very steady, though, and a few of the fireballs went wide. It did provide enough of a distraction, though, for Azula to focus a flame into a single point in her palm and slam it into the glass that now trapped her. It shattered obligingly, becoming dangerously jagged. Fortunately, her boots were specially hardened leather, designed to turn away metal weapons. Mere glass wouldn't hinder her.
General Vahm was trying to make his way over to her, repeatedly calling out her title. She was too busy scanning the room, trying to track the movements of the Earthbender.

Gritting his teeth Shoji skid back keeping the sand high to repel their attacks. Still their had to be ways to trick her into evening the field again, with her pride maybe she would become her own downfall. Waiting for their attacks to die down he smiled to himself letting the wall drop revealing him sat on the throne "So You can't beat one earthbender without help. I'm dissapointed to find that the firelord is such a coward." Exhaling he tried to rise the sand again and ready it for a wave across the room, around him walls and collums began fall apart into dirt and sand to help prepare his next move. (I feel I should point out it takes more than fire to turn sand into glass.)

((Yeah, I know. I just thought it would make the scene more dramatic. biggrin ))
Azula snarled something incoherently, blue fire igniting around her fists and face with every breath. General Vahm looked towards her warily and prudently moved away a few feet. She was pissed to see the lowly Earthbender in her throne. That was her rightful place in the world!
"Why is it that everyone insists on defying me?! I am your rightful lord!"
She would show that impudent dog of an Earthbender. How dare he call her a coward! She conjured up the lightning, adding more and more of her power to it until she could barely control it anymore. Then she directed it at the throne, intent on killing the Earthbender. The throne dais exploded and was instantly shrouded by smoke.
Azula started laughing hysterically. She had done it! That Earthbender must surely be dead! There was no way anyone could have survived a direct hit of that lightning bolt.
"I never need any help defeating my opponents! I simply obliterate them just as I did you, you worthless Earthbender!"
She turned her back to the throne room and raised her arms triumphantly, still laughing like a maniac. General Vahm didn't seem to share her confidence, as his eyes were darting around the room and he was still in his ready stance.
"What's the matter, General Vahm? I beat him. You can relax. We won." She smirked and put her hands on her hips, looking at the general condescendingly.
((This is supposed to be a famous last words moment, by the way. xd Make Azula eat her words!))

((Took awhile. I was just maimed by a physics midterm exam on electromagnetics and induced currents, personal matters are going through hell, and I'm financially in trouble so I'm trying to get an on-campus job.))
Kaito watched as the Fire Nation citizens rushed in a mostly uniform direction. That was probably where the nearest city gate was. They had to get out and into hiding. There were too many firebenders all around to know for sure who was on which side, and it would only be harder to defend against all sides. "Tally, this way!" he called out. "We gotta find somewhere to hide!"
((ugh, give me some time to make this longer. I've got other things I need to deal with at the moment, but I'll get right back to this.))
((edit: nvm, 5 pages of calculus hw, physics lab, and logics discussion say another mini-post tonight at best. Sorry.))

Exhaling from behind the back of the broken throne Shoji closed his eyes, a direct hit from that would undoubtably end this but her anger was making her shots a little wild and he'd managed to throw himself back over the throne for shealter. Kicking it forward he leapt onto the dias throwing his hands up and throwing the wave of sand forward flooding the throne room up to chest hight. Exhaling to focus as best as he could the earthbender leapt forward slamming down onto the sand and causing it to compress into solid stone again. Looking across at the trapped firebenders he tried to remain cautiouse, she'd proven that thinking you've won was an easy way to lose. Even if they couldn't move much their hands were still free enough to bend and that ment they were still a threat. Looking down at Azula he exhaled, he'd wanted revenge against the fire nation for so long but this felt wrong. He wanted victory over a true warrior, something that would cripple the fire nation and stop this ever happening again, but his opponent was a derranged fool. Sighing he turned away for a moment "You aren't worth killing, I'll leave that desision to the rest of the earth kingdom." Stepping back to the dias he remained silent for a moment before looking back at her "Shame that the cute ones are so often insane."

Jezabel Star Earth Nations Fire Bender Jezabel sighed as she walked behind them, half of her wanted to run back to the Fire nation and find Bumi. Chances are high that he was ok, He was after all Bumi. She lightly held on to her injured arm, it was still in some pain, but not nearly as bad as her back. Fire was painful and scary, she hated it, she never understood why Bumi kept making her deal with it.

Azula was too stunned to speak at the upset. She stood there, frozen, feeling trapped by the rock that had just moments ago been sand. All the while, confusion raged through her mind. How had the Earthbender survived that last attack? Why wasn't he dead? How the hell had she been beaten?
As he left, what the earthbender had said finally sunk in. "Not worth killing? Not worth killing?" As soldiers rushed in, far too late to capture that Earthbender, and attempted to free her and General Vahm, she screamed in frustration, fire blasting out of her mouth.
"How DARE he mock me like that!! I swear, if it's the last thing I do, I will capture that Earthbender and make him regret the day he made a fool of me! Hurry up, you idiots, and get me out!" This last bit was directed at the soldiers, who were ineffectually applying flames and calling for masonry tools. She vented her fury by punching the stone with fire, but succeeded in doing little more than bruising her fists.
General Vahm watched her calculatingly through all this, though Azula didn't notice.

Skidding along the slanted rooftop Shoji glanced back, most of the guards were distracted for the moment but it wouldn't take much more than a few powerful blasts to break through the stone he'd left Azula in. It seemed typical all fire was good for was destruction, already he felt like an idiot for leaving her alive when he had the chance to crush her like a grape but he didn't have the option of turning back now. Dropping down into the street below he glanced back at the palace unsure what he could do to right his lapse in judgement, sane or not she was a threat to countless lives and her future victims would be his fault. Slamming his fists down in disbelief he remained silent for a moment, if he'd been able to overcome her then she must have fallen far from the unbeatable warrior she used to be, maybe she wasn't as dangerose as he was worried she was. Getting up he brushed his hair aside, whatever it ment he couldn't change it now. Next time he'd find his own solution, if he felt pity again then he'd have to stop her from bending ever again.

The little group was quietly sneaking along the edges of the pens, using the sounds of the animals shuffling to hide their movements. Kallan spotted the mongoose lizards, all curled up in their enclosure that looked more like a huge aviary than a pen. Only one was awake and had its head up, looking around in that strange, jerking motion that mongoose lizards had.
"We have to be careful. If we make a wrong move, that one that's awake will sound an alarm and then the whole group will wake up and start making noise."
An idea struck her. They could use that to their advantage if they got all the other animals to stampede as well. Then their pursuers would have to waste time gathering up mounts and putting them back in their enclosures before they could set out after them. They could get up to an extra day's head start. She quickly whispered her plan to the others.
"Sounds like a good plan to me." Iroh looked pleased, then glanced to his nephew and Jezabel in concern. "Do you both feel like you can handle that?"
