Why had the door been left open in the Curio Shop? Why did a naughty little kid run loose, knocking things over as he perused the shop? A book had been knocked off of the shelf. A self help book for new werewolves, or so it would seem; had anyone been looking at it.
Throughout the day, the book was kicked unknowingly across the floor, and eventually out the door. It was a very windy day, and the paperback book slid across the ground, it's pages flapping back and forth wildly. Donovan Hart happened to be passing by, when he almost stepped on it. "Woah, geez. Who tosses a book?" He said to himself, trying to stop his bangs from blowing into his eyes. The man bent down and picked up the book, holding it inside his coveralls in case those dark clouds produced rain.
The young man arrived at home, closing the door and breathing a sigh. What a windy day! He kicked off his shoes and walked into the living room to sit down, setting the book down on the couch beside him. He rested a bit, looking beside him at the title of the book. "So, You're a Werewolf: Self Help Book?" He knitted his brows, flipping a couple of pages where it lay. What a strange book, he thought.
Donovan picked the book up again and began to read, ignoring the storm outside, and Vance's shenanigans in the other other room while being engulfed in the book. It was pretty funny, he thought. Until of course, the book started moving. The pages started to flip around wildly, and while Donovan stared at it with a look of bewilderment, the book transformed, dropping a teenage werewolf on his lap. The two stared at each other with befuddled expressions until the teenager raised a brow, his expression judgmental. "Who're you?" He asked in a snarky tone.
Donovan yelped and shoved the boy off his lap, sending the poor guy tumbling head over heels across the living room. The boy stopped rolling practically sitting on his shoulders with his feet in the air. He rolled into a sitting position, rubbing his head and staring up at Donovan with a pout. "The Hell, man? That was cold."
Donovan blinked, standing up and beholding the teen on his floor. "You're one of those.. from that shop." And that meant one thing. No exchanges, no returns. This brat was his, whether he liked it or not. The teen raised a brow, not really caring what it was Donovan was talking about, he shrugged and looked around. "Got any eats?" Donovan sighed. He was no Vance. Not even close.
They now sat at the kitchen table. Donovan had cooked up some meat on the BBQ, watching as the wolf boy dug into the thing with his hands, making quite a mess of himself while he was at it. "Listen.. we gotta make some rules." Donovan said in a harsh tone, crossing his arms. The boy looked up, licking sauce off of his lips. If anything, that shove from earlier established that Donovan was the Alpha male. Better for him to give the man a little bit of respect. Only a little. "You can stay here. You can eat my food, and Hell, I'll even give you a room and bed to sleep in." He paused, staring the boy straight on with intensity. e needed to be forward with this boy. "I have conditions. One: My word is law. Two: You keep messes to a minimum. Three: When I bring a woman home, you treat her like gold, or you stay the Hell away. Four: I have a son. His name is Vance. I'll introduce you in a bit, but there is something you must do while you live in this house. Protect that boy with your life. His word is also law, and I will not have you upsetting him without good cause." Donovan was well aware how sensitive the boy could be, so he was going to be a little lax on the no upsetting rule. His kid needed a little more backbone.
"Understood?" He asked, staring down the wolf kid. The boy swallowed his mouthful, nodding while keeping his gaze focused on Donovan. "Good.. also, try and learn some manners. Go wash up after you eat." Donovan stood up, about to prepare a room before pausing. "Name?" He asked. "Ain't got one." The boy responded with a mouthful of food. Donovan nodded, sighing a bit. "Right. I'll get back to you on one.."
Donovan started to wonder how life would change. Was he some sort of nursery now? Geez..

Vahn was never told how Donovan came to the conclusion of what the wolf teen's name would be. If he ever found out he was named after a famous werewolf exterminator, he'd be furious to say the least. Then again, it was only spelled similar. The pronunciations were different; so unless Vahn got around to learning to read and write, Donovan would be safe for now.
It was time to meet the runt he was supposed to protect. Apparently this Vance kid was too friendly with strangers, and that made Donovan worry. In exchange for letting Vahn stay in the big warm house, he had to keep the kid safe. Fair enough. He got food and stuff.
Donovan came back from Vance's room, leading Vance to the couch where Vahn was slouching in. Vance grinned, running over to the grouchy teen, while Donovan looked on, admittedly worried. "You're my new Big Brother?" Vance asked excitedly, a big happy smile on his face. Vahn raised a brow, his eyes darting toward Donovan. Donovan glared as if warning him to play nice.
"Yeah.. guess I am." Vahn replied, looking back to the runt wearily. This kid was way too energetic. Too happy. Was he mental? Vahn did not like the idea of having to protect this kid. Tossing him over a cliff sounded like a great idea though. Toughen the runt up.
"Oh wow! Now I have a brother! Tyyne has a big sister, and Seidh has a big brother! Now I get one too! Will you play with me? Will you take me places?" Was this kid for real? Vance was overwhelmed and optimistic, but Vahn just wanted to hide in a cave. He wasn't the most social butterfly in the... whatever a group of butterflies were called. In fact, he didn't much care for it much. Another glance was cast at Donovan. Vahn's ears pinned back to show off his discomfort with the situation. Help. Me.
Donovan smirked a bit, trying not to laugh. "Well Vance, he needs alone time too. He's a teenager, so he has other things he'd rather do." Donovan wasn't so cruel as to pin the poor teen to Vance 24/7. That would be cruel. Vahn looked a bit relieved. Saved. Guess he owed the Alpha male. "Yeah.. uh.. yeah.." Vance pouted a bit, but seemed to understand. "So like.. if you're going out for a while, I'll make sure you get there safe and stuff.. until you're older or whatever." Vance smiled, nodding his head. "Okay. But... play with me sometime, okay?" Vance said pleadingly, his large red eyes locked on Vahn's. Vahn's ears twitched. "Yeah.. no problem.."
"Yay! Let's play outside! We can run and play tag and stuff! I'm training to be a super hero, and and and.." Vance tugged on Vahn's hand trying to drag him outside. Vahn obliged, with a befuddled look about him. Donovan smiled a bit, wandering to the garage. He could now leave Vance home alone without worry. Someone was there to take care of him.
Once outside, Vance set to showing Vahn the jumping and climbing he had been learning to hone. Vahn watched, vaguely interested in the kid's actions. He kept his hands in his pockets and stood to the side. This wasn't too hard.
