I hate shows like this, but I will comment.

I see polygamy as a man wanting to feel powerful and worshipped. I don't think it has anything to do with love, but ownership. The more wives the more powerful. I feel really bad for the wives. Yes, they chose it, but they did not choose to have more and more and more sister wives. I think what that man is doing is selfish. He doesn't seem to care for the others anymore. But really, after the the third wife will a man care for the first anoymore?

I agree with you. But has anyone ever thought of what would happen if one of the sister wives wanted to marry another man?
That was one of my first thoughts too. It actually comes up when the husband is dating the newest girl. His first wife asked him how he would feel if she started dating another man or took another husband. And before he could even put herself in her shoes, he went off about how disgusting it would be for her to be seeing another man.
which is the knee jerk reaction of most males who want to have more wives than the next person...

Personally I don't really believe that there are positive sides to polygamy. Its all about control and produce, and in direct opposition to the freedoms women have fought for over the past three hundred years...

Well, I know of a polygamists family that is structured and works. Most people whisper "swingers" when they are gossiping about them, but I can honestly say the whole family seems very happy. The thing is, those in the relationship are bisexual, and there are a couple husbands and 3 wives. As far as decision making goes, it goes down as a democracy with the couple whose name is on the house note having the final say when the majority has a problem agreeing, which doesn't happen often. The concern of the children is always the first consideration before any decision is considered or decided on. I kinda think that for a polygamists relationship to be fair, those involved would need to be bi and have more than one husband and more than one wife, but that would be looking through the glass of my biased perspective anyway.

Are they seriously mormon? Because polygamy is no longer allowed to be practiced within the Church otherwise those who practice it will be excommunicated.

Good question, I was confused by that too. I've read the same thing that you just said. That that practice was ended over 100 years ago and those who are in polygamous marriages are excommunicated by the Mormon Church.

So if it was banned and if I were a Mormon I would be pissed off that a polygamous group was running around calling themselves Mormon and displaying their life/lifestyle on TV only to further the misconceptions about their Church. Like with my own Church, Mormonism already has enough people spreading lies about them and it's wrong.

@ the OP, last time I was here discussing polygamy I think I had no problem with it (I can't remember). I've since changed my views, overall I think it's extremely messed up given my knowledge of sociology and group dynamics. It's not something I would be interested in and it's not something that I think should be included in our definition of Marriage, although marriage is already becoming meaningless and we probably should just do away with the whole thing on a state level.

Which is exactly why I asked about their religion due to all the common misconceptions about my religion and beliefs. The offical manifesto to end the practice of polygamy is in the Doctrine and Covenants for the LDS Church. And if these people are LDS then they need to take a close look at that section of the scriptures.

I just looked it up out of curiosity but it says that they belong to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. On wiki it says that they left the LDS church in the early 20th century after the LDS church renounced polygamy.

Ah I figured they were apart of the FLDS, which isn't affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and vice versa. I'd imagine this group split off when the manifesto was given in the Doctrine and Covenants.
