Hioryuki laughed when Rosalba mentioned her little incident. "Heh, I guess people just start to assume things." He shrugged, looking both ways before gripping her hand securely and starting to walk. "People call me a little crazy since..." he blushed, "Ha, well I tend to freak out kind of easily." His shoulders slumped a bit as he crossed the street. The reached the other end and Hiroyuki released Rosalba's hand. "I'm sure I'm fun to watch, though." Hiroyuki laughed at himself.

Thinking seriously, Rosalba nodded. "They really do," she said, her hand feeling a little chilly now that Hiroyuki had let go.

She smiled at him though, grabbing his hand just to squeeze it before releasing it again. "The crazy people are the best kind. They're always lots of fun, and really nice. Not the psychopath kind of crazies, but the good kind," she agreed with herself, spinning on her heel again.

"I think we're the same kind of crazy, just different varieties. Like, I don't freak out per se, but I do get super excited and overly passionate about a lot of things. Like fish. And I probably shouldn't have hit that fisherman with that shell...he's going to have a bump on his head..."

The Scizor smiled at the squeezed, and nodded and chuckled as she spoke. "Well, getting carried away happens when you're passionate about something." He walked toward the beach, it was in their sights now. The ocean was calm, and the sky was a wonderful mix of midnight blue, lilac, magenta, and golden yellow with only a few misty clouds hovering. The sun was kissing the ocean good night and preparign to rest, overhead the moon's ghostly outline was just appearing. Hiroyuki watched the sky change and felt the peace of the day. His eyes half-shut, he inhaled the ocean's breeze. He looked down at Rosalba. The sea really seemed to suit her.

"A lot of people will say I'm crazy, or a little too friendly," Hiroyuki stepped toward a bench and leaned against it with his arms, "but I'm just a simple person." He looked at Rosalba, his idiotic face appearing seemingly intellegent, "who gets surprised very easily."

Closing her eyes, she put her arms out, letting the slight breeze throw the familiar salty vapour onto her skin. She licked her lips, smiling, and wrapped her arms around herself, as if trying to hug the whole experience. "Too friendly and simple is just the way to be, open and caring is simply wonderful. So you get surprised easily," she said, pausing to half open an eye and look at him. "It's probably endearing when you get surprised."

Opening her eyes fully, she looked out to the ocean, smiling softly, taking in the entire scene, committing it to memory. "It's true, about being passionate. Cooking is what I do, what I've always wanted to do. Some people were born to be mothers and fathers, or doctors like my brother, or born to save the world somehow. I was born to cook."

She paused for a little, smiling as a blip flew out of the water and back in farther out. She then continued, "The best part of cooking is the look on the person's face when they eat it. When they close their eyes and it makes them think of something. Whether a memory, a place, something that means anything to them. That's what cooking is all about."

She blushed a little, definitely not looking at him now. "I'm sorry. I talk a lot, and most of the time it's just nonsense."

Hiroyuki stared off into the ocean as Rosalba spoke, nodding at each of her words. He felt her eyes leave him, his head turned to see her a little flushed. Shaking his head, he said, "Nah, nonsense sounds like this," Hiroyuki turned his whole body to face her, hunched over, and stuck his tongue out. "Hableghabeagaahrr..." Straightening, he chuckled with his eyes shut. "You're just talking about how ya feel. I like hearing someone talk. It means they're comfortable." He grinned, and walked around the bench leading her along the beach. The sand condensed beneath his thick boots and with each step he left a long footprint. Most people were heading home, walking the other way. A few kids ran past them with kites, one said hello to Hiroyuki. He waved, keeping his course until a little tug pulled him back.

"Hi, Hiro! When's school gonna start?" A girl missing her two front teeth and two little boys flanking her, stared up at the giant. Hiroyuki kneeled, facing the girl directly.

"I'll ask my dad. Maybe I can run some classes while he's away." He tousled her wavy brown hair, she giggled.

"'Kay, Hiro, I can't wait. C'mon, guys!" The trio bolted off to the other end up the beach. Hiroyuki rose and glanced back at Rosalba.

"Kids sure are fun, huh?" He asked, walking down the length of the shore.

Rosie had burst out laughing when Hiroyuki had spoken gibberish, and a grin had stayed. "Well, that's good, because I usually have a lot to say. And it's true about being comfortable - I'm comfortable in most situations, so I talk. Parties though...I get nervous and babble about like...rainbow unicorns that eat salt and fly. Or something like that," she said, giggling at herself.

Smiling as the children ran by, she tried to step into his footprints, though she fell short every time, and her heel lengthened his print. She was so focused, she almost ran into the little kids who stopped Hiroyuki, and smiled as they spoke. The girl had a slight lisp and whistle because of her missing teeth, which only made her cuter.

She turned to watch them run down the beach, speckling the sand with little footprints, and had to hurry to catch up to him. "Yeah, they are," she answered with a beaming smile. "Sometimes I wish I was one of those born mothers, you know? But then I start cooking, and it melts away. I mean, I still want kids, I think, but I'd have to try harder to not talk their ears off."

She smiled, a little sadly as she thought of it. She really wasn't ready for kids - she'd never really had a serious relationship before. She shook her head and laughed at herself. She was sometimes certifiable.

Hiroyuki glanced at Rosalba, her smile drooping at the ends a bit. He paused to rest a hand on her shoulder. "Don't say that." His usual idiotic smile shined as he spoke. "My dad said that anyone can be made to do anything," he turned his head to look off into the sea, "if they put their heart into it." Hiroyuki began to walk again, heading for a tall rock formation at the end of the strip. "You just need to get the right, well, ingredients." He laughed. "My mom told me a story about how she picked me in the orphanage. I wasn't the youngest there, nor the most attractive, but I had the personality to do anything." They reached the boulders. He studied Rosalba and said, "I think you have the personality to do it."

Hiroyuki slid his hands against the mossy boulders and paused at a gap. He pushed one and glanced through, then waved a hand for Rosalba to come closer. "Alright, it's just through here. You might have to orient yourself a little funny, but you'll fit. After all," he flashed a daring grin, "if I can fit I'm sure anyone can." Hiroyuki began to sidle through the rocks, taking Rosalba's hand as he pushed through. "Just a little bit farther." He called over his shoulder, pressing his body as close to the rock as possible.

After a few moments of suffocating rock, a white sandy beach was revealed. There was nothing but the ocean and the shore, along with a few shells and stones. He walked forward, gesturing to the open area. "Welcome."

Thinking about what he had said, she wiggled her toes in her shoes. When they stared to squeeze through the rocks, she started to think aloud. "That's true, I guess. And regular people don't know how they will react to being parents. You know, I don't even know why I'm thinking of this, I'm not ready for ki-" she stopped short as she emerged from the rocks.

Her eyes widened, her mouth open in a small, sideways oval. It took her a long pause of soaking in the sight before she could speak at all. "It...it's...beautiful," she breathed, an almost dazed expression as she stood beside him, the corners of the oval turning up slightly.

She had been to a lot of beaches, a lot of bodies of water. But this was breathtaking. She looked up at him, the dazed, almost stupidly happy look still on her face. "How did you find this place?"

"Through beach days with my family." He said, ambling inward toward two smooth boulders that were adjacent to each other. "It's pretty much my secret hideout, or at least that's what I said when I was a kid." He shrugged, chuckling like the little ones they had passed before. "I loved being here. I used to say I was king..." He paused, thinking for a moment. "It's nice to be here, especially when there are fireworks. I once came here with a visitor." He laughed giddily. "She reminded me a lot of my childhood. When I met her, it was like being a ten year old all over again." He smiled at her as he rested on one of the rocks, beckoning her to sit on the other. "Maybe if we keep acting like kids, we'll always be able to relate to them and if people can do that, then we can all be good parents." Hiroyuki laughed at himself. "Well, now I'm the long-winded one, huh?"

"My family doesn't do beach days, they're more city people," she said with a smile as she sat beside him on the rock. She pressed her hands into the slightly porous rock, running her fingers along the little bumps.

"My childhood was mostly ok. There are years I don't want to think about, but it was ok. Ten was a good age. My sister was born around then," she nodded, looking out over the ocean.

She paused to mull over again what he had said about acting like kids, and making good parents. Her smile slowly widened, and she found herself nodding. "That's probably true. And if it is, I should be a pretty good parent, since I definitely still act like a kid all the time," she agreed.

"Oh! And being long winded is great, I usually carry a conversation like, all by myself, so thanks," she half-kidded, nudging him by leaning over and knocking shoulders.

Hiroyuki threw his head back with a broad grin. He nudged her back playfully and looked out over the ocean, resting his chin on his hands. "What was your childhood like?" He asked, his eyes moving toward where she sat. "It must be nice being an older sibling. I'm not sure if I like being the youngest, but my oldest sister always says I'm lucky to be so young. Haha," He leaned back, turning his head to her, "But I'll grow up someday, too. People don't stay like this forever."

She smiled, tilting her head to the side as she thought. "My childhood...was like one long fight with my big brother. We'd wrestle and just plain beat each other up. When we did get along, we always got into tons of trouble. Like...our friend's dad chased us down the street for the prank we'd pulled," she recounted, laughing at her and her brother's antics.

She smiled strangely as she thought about what he said. Being an older sibling? "I guess it could be fun for other people. But my little sister Poppy is a genius, and has been smarter than I am since she was seven years old. Because she's so smart, it's hard to talk to her without feeling stupid. It doesn't help that she's arrogant as anything," she laughed, almost snidely. She smiled, though, turning her head towards him, but keeping her eyes on the still setting sun. "I'd still fight tooth and nail for her though, and I'm proud of her."

She looked at him, shaking one of her wrists to bring the sleeve of his jacket up. "I wish kids could stay young and innocent, it would be nice for a change. Kind of like you," she mused with a sad smile, though she looked at him differently now. Her eyes were soft but serious when she said, "I know we just met, but, try not to change Hiroyuki. I think I'd be sad if you grew up."

Hiroyuki studied Rosalba, his face mirrored her expression. He put an arm over her shoulder and tousled her hair, or rather pet the center of her head where the headdress wasn't. "Okay, I won't." His eyes softened with his silly smile still plastered to his face. "Let's make it a promise." Hiroyuki flipped his arm off of her shoulder and held out his pinkie. "We'll promise just like little kids do." He closed his eyes. "I promise to never grow up."

Rosalba giggled foolishly, saying, "A pinky promise? I haven't done one of those in forever!"

Being with Hiroyuki was definitely like being a kid again. She wasn't so innocent to the way the world was, the way it worked. But she could pretend to be- keep being a kid forever. She held her hand out, curling her pinky around his, squeezing her eyes shut, smiling as she said, "I promise to never grow up either."

Her eyes still closed, she smiled a little wider. "Even when we're two hundered and sixteen, we'll still be little kids on the inside."

Hiroyuki squeezed his pinkie around hers, laughing, like a reflection of a little boy. "Especially then." He opened his eyes and looked out over the sea. The sun was lowering and the stars were almost peeking between the hazy stratus clouds that floated like a leaf on water. He felt the salt air and could hear kids still squealing with glee. Being a kid is way more fun than being some fussy adult any day.
