Right now it seems like, in the older part of my youth group, everyone is being used in the church in some way. Several of our Youth teach sunday school, some singing, praise and worship, and a few are actually preaching, but all are bringing glory to God. well, everyone except me. So now my question is.....

Is it wrong to WANT to be used to bring glory to God?

..... Because honestly, to me, I'd rather die than simply sit on a pew and be content without doing anything for God. Already proven what I cannot do, which is a rather long list.

Patience.....not one of my strong points. If you believe that God could return at any moment, it makes it somewhat hard to think that I have not been busy at doing anything for his glory.

I would suggest praying for patience...though if you believe like I do God doesn't simply give us what we ask for he gives us the opportunity to do the things we ask for... so if you pray for patience... well you might be waiting awhile lol

Maybe God is trying to call you to do something. Pray for God to give you your calling and you bring Glory to God by Obeying him, like spreading the Gospel.

@Friar: Hav been praying for tat, as well as other things for over a year now.

@ starry: Thats what I have been praying for. as for witnessing....doesn't work so well with me. Most of the people I attempt to witness to draw me into debate, then I invariably make them mad when I prove a point using only the scripture.
So far, out of the several hundreds of pwople i've invited to church, only one family has come? Bible studies...most people don't want to learn a Bible study from someone younger than themself.

it's deffintly not wrong to want to be used by God, that's godo you should want to be used and He wants to use you for His glory. I would just keep asking Him to reveal what it is He wants you to do. I understand your frustration in thinking if Jesus were to return tomorrow and you haven't done anything big. start with the small things maybe giving money to someone in need, giving advice to someone who needs it, being a friend to the one person who has no friends those are all ways God can use you. Pray for oppertunites to grow in patience.

God isn't just going to grant you patience rather He'll put you in situations that test and try you and in the end you've gained patientence. Don't neglect the small things they might not seem important but they are. even if no one else notices it God does. Whatever He has for you is just as important as what He has the youth even if you don't get noticed for it.

I would start with trusting that He has a plan and a purpose for you (Jeremiah 29:11) He wants to use you but maybe what He has for you will require patience so in this season He is teaching you to be patient because you'll need it for the next season.

Seasons can sometimes be long so don't give up, keep asking God and He'll reveal it to you in the right time.

This desire you have is the greatest think in the world (in my oppinion). God wants people to love working for him, to desire it. God doesn't want us to sit in the pews, twiddling our thumbs. If you feel it overwelming, ask to help someone in the church. Ask the pastors, elders, someone. Look for ministry classes, go to witnessing lectures, and maybe begin thinking of a life in the mission field.

You don't necessarily have to be serving to fulfill the Will of God. Maybe God just wants you to sit out for a while. Learn. Listen to the sermons. Give Him praise. Honor His name. You don't have to be in action all the time. That doesn't mean you can't go around the church looking for things to do, but just be sure that you're asking the Lord for His guidance. He will not lead you on a stray path. He will not lead you to wrong doings. He will not lead you to something that does not end up bringing Glory to Himself. You humble yourself to the Lord. Show His Love to others, and to God. Be calm, and have patience. As you said, you're not a very patient person, but neither am I. You just have to wait. Not everything will come to you at once, so you just have to wait. Don't know how long, don't know how short. It's not selfish to pray for yourself, it's very helpful. Asking God for things to further His will isn't bad, but you just can't get greedy with it. He will give you what He desires for you. The Bible says that not every person needs to have every spiritual gift, like tongues, prophecy, or praise. (Romans 12:6 & 1 Corinthians 12:4;12) If everybody had the same, or all spiritual gifts, then we would all be useless. Nobody could learn or teach anything, because everybody would be all knowing. So that's why God spreads the Gifts across the world. Some God wants to Prophesy, some He wants to use Missions Trips as their strong points. Some, the Lord may not even want to have their Gifts for the moment. Everybody has some, but not everybody has discovered them yet. We may have one, two, or however many. But not all have the same. Ask the Lord what He wants from you. Ask Him what He wants you to do. Ask Him to use you as a vessel for His Glory. But don't do these things for your own recognitions, but for the King of King's. It is His Glory, and His alone. He set it up for you, and He gave you the Power. (Ephesians 2:8-10) But if you really feel lead to serve, most churches have Spiritual Gifts tests to find out what yours is. You don't have to take these, but it's just there if you want. (And they're not exactly right. They just give you an idea of where to look into.) And I would talk to your Pastor and tell him the Lord is leading you and ask him where you could serve. He is your shepherd of the church, but Jesus is the shepherd over all. Just remember to let the Lord guide you in whatever you choose. (:

Naruto(great anime btw):
I do feel the need to work, to do anything I can, for God. Patience, either I have too much or not enough. As for the gifts of the spirit....never been used in one, and doubt I will be. Closest thing I've ever come to that is knowledge of motives and sensing things I shouldn't, but anyone could do that. I've been praying about being used, and thus far my list of shortcomings is the only thing getting longer.

Black: Have talked to my pastor. I doubt I could be a missionary

never: Those examples came natural to me for a long time, before I got in church. And for small things, well, you're right. Nobody remarks about the church being clean and good smelling or the flower beds looking great in the dead of winter or the kitchen being spotless after a dinner, but everybody loves the praise and worship, the sound room peoples, and of course the ministry.

In all honestly... I'm confused. I know many of our young people have a calling and talents to serve God. If I do I do not see them, nor does anyone else. I feel like a failure because of it. Right now my list of failures is about five miles long, while I can count my talents and abilities on one hand with fingers to spare. I'm almost to the point of separating mysef from the youth group because of my lack of talent or ability in anything important. Before you say it, yes, I am hard and critical on myself and my life. Because I know I have to be better than I am and lack of progress to that bothers me.

I can understand your frustrations. Not knowing what you can do for God, or what talent of your God can use can make someone feel empty. Even though you may have many faults (like ever human on this planet), remember that God doesn't care about those. He may even use your faults to show His glory. I know you might be tired of hearing it, but try to be a little patient. If you feel this need, God will show you what you can do for Him, in time. All you can do now is stay in prayer and do not leave your youth group. It it important in keeping your faith strong. I will pray that God shows you where He is calling you soon.

He'll show you. He shows everyone, in time. i have the opposite of your problem. I know what I want to do, feel called to do; but I don't know how to actually do it. I dream big, and am kind of shy, bad combination.

Maybe right now, God is putting you on His Potter's Wheel, to shape you. Remember, God uses everything to bring Himself glory.

"The love of Christ controls us, because we know that One died for all, so all have died. Christ died for all so that those who live would not continue to live for themselves. He died for them and was raised from the dead so that they would live for him." (2 Corinthians 5:14-15 NCV)
He'll show you how He wants you to work for Him. Even though it may seem like there is no plan for you, there is. He's leading you there without you even knowing it. Pray about it and listen to what He has to tell you.

I'd start off by saying that you shouldn't be so hard on yourself. I understand your drive and your passion, and also your lack of patience.

It's difficult to even begin to guess at what you might be able to do for God's glory when you don't list what you are good at. Could list what you are good at?

Sure I'll list it. Once I know what I'm good at myself. Most of the things I know how to do are things anyone can do if they are willing. I started playing Bass Guitar recently, but I'm honestly not that good at it, since it would take years for me to become an adequate player. People tell me I'm more sensitive to the emotions, thoughts, and motives of others, and I guess I've done it more than once, but all of that is simple reading of body language and intuition rather than a gift. Not to mention it annoys people when I do it and I'm right. Other than that I have really no discovered talents to speak of.
