She had been right to assume that the transaction was only going so well because she was holding herself back. The second she mentioned Jianyu's name, it was as if a switch got flipped: Cais's face grew dark, he was biting his lip, clenching his fists. Her eyes flashed. She could tolerate all kinds of insults made against herself, but to insult someone she loved... she found herself almost incapable of letting it slide. She took a deep breath, and it wasn't until he called Jianyu a 'brute' that she was really and truly angered. She didn't perceive any sensitivity in his choice of words, because any insult like that one against her best friend was intolerable. Had she been on her own business, she would have punched him in the face for that. Just like that. Yue was one of passion, after all, and when she could be moved to anger, it was swift and decisive. It just took a lot to do that, before. She didn't have anything to protect, really. Nothing anyone said about her made any difference, but.. She didn't speak until he had muttered about working on it.
"So this business transaction is concluded," she said, nodding. "In that case, let me re-introduce myself: I am Yue Lao, best friend of Jianyu, and in my family we don't tolerate slights against our loved ones. Cais, whatever grievance you have with Jianyu..." Yue took a deep breath, pursed her lips, and flipped her braid behind her shoulder. She didn't finish her train of thought, but rather stopped and tilted her head, her eyes scanning his expression and posture.
Finally, she said, "If we weren't in a shop full of glass, I would probably have already retaliated. He's not a 'brute' unless you deserve it. So, the question remains, Cais: What did you do to deserve it?" She smiled at him, looking a little less happy and a little more like she was considering how much meat could be scraped off his bones. A little like he was carrion and she was a bird of prey.

Best friend. He glared at her, standing as tall as he could. As she continued he could only feel the sting of anger building inside of him. He was inclined to allow her to speak her mind then wander away while he would go out into the workshop and work out his frustration, but her words bore into him.
Her talk of retaliation made him raise an eyebrow under the glare he was giving. He continued to listen, biting his tongue to silence himself from cutting her off. Cais did have a very limited understanding of "the brute" as he had put, but he never felt he deserved it. No, that couldn't be. He shook his head and looked back to her, his eyes glinting.
"Already retaliated?" He questioned, his voice stern as he looked at her piercing stare. "I don't care one way or the other if you're friends with whatever his name is, but the threat of attack? Now there's something I don't tolerate." He moved around the desk and to the window, turning over an open sign to closed and shoving the door open loudly. He turned back at her, temper flaring. "Shall we settle this outside then?" He made a motion with his head for her to follow and stepped out the door.
He looked back to her. If she was willing to go through with it, Cais was happy to oblige, especially if it had something to do with one of his most loathed foes. He was almost curious to see if there was anything to her threat, and he was certain he would soon find out.
