Last Sunday, we got 1st place at the Tarpon Springs Outdoor Music Festival in Florida.
We received a standing ovation at the first big hit of the show.
At that point, I knew that this was the greatest thing I've ever done.

Hearing the crown chant our name before we go on, and hearing them cheer when we do something great.
or watching a good band at the peak moment and you get all warm inside and tinglies

Bre The Fuzzy Elf I'm a freshmen in high school and our marching season is over, but I loved every second of it; starting from band camp. I even loved tripping in our last half-time performance. xD We got first in our last competition and last in out first. But it didn't matter. I still love marching band. <3 Especially the hats. x3 I cannot believe you just called them hats. I am insulted, young miss.

Melphina Micaela Bre The Fuzzy Elf I'm a freshmen in high school and our marching season is over, but I loved every second of it; starting from band camp. I even loved tripping in our last half-time performance. xD We got first in our last competition and last in out first. But it didn't matter. I still love marching band. <3 Especially the hats. x3 I cannot believe you just called them hats. I am insulted, young miss. Just saying, not everyone wears shakos, so they might actually be "Hats." Now, if they are shakos, then yes, how dare you call them hats! Event though freshman and sophomore year our bd had us call our shakos hats for some reason....My band moments: -The crowd cheering when you have a big hit, especially when you are one of the last to perform -(story)Yesterday we had our first festival of the season. We were told about a thousand times to "leav it on the field", which in our band means to do your best so you have no regrets coming off the field. When we first got to the warmup room, it was obvious we were going to do a great performancce. we warmed up adn had a good, in tune sound. We did some across the field marchign practice in the gym we were in, which was epicly one of the best fundamental drills we had done since band camp. Finally, we beggan our opener and did our whole part 3, and they sounded amazing. We marche d outside and onto the field. Everything went smoothly, we hit most of our sets. Better yet, we hit ALL the usually messy sets, including a huge straight line push across the field that was for the first time actually straight. Coming off the field, I personally felt proud of our performance, and that feeling is another of my moments. Coming off a field after a great performance. -Later duing the award ceremony, our band was huddled close toether not making a sound. at the same festival last year, we had recieved a good. We were afraid, event hough we thought we had a good performance, that this would happen again. Goods were called. We had a near ehart attack when the band standing net to orus int he dm line was called, because the names are way too close. They skip over us. Next is excellents. When they call our name, we jump up and scream so loud. Thats another of my moments; when your band gets called for an award you can be proud of. (We also received all captions except percussion.) We were later told that our dms had scored a 98.

Witnessing your football team beat it's rival in last minute fashion to go to the Playoffs. And during the course of the game playing your heart out on the fight song, doing your best preformance to date and celebrating with everyone else. And then the next day having an invitational in your hometown and getting a 77.5, which is one of the best scores the band has gotten on our hometurf so I'm told. And ironically, your rival that you beat the previous day gets first. xd Oh, and getting free ramen Staying up all night to see if you went to state finals and making it to states.

I have a couple of little things. I'm a freshman and this was my first year, and I feel like I missed out on some things becuase i was shy but trust me, I'm not shy anymore. Anyway, most of these are just things that I love about marching band, more than amazing achievments.
(1) Drum Wars; We had a big show at our school (It's called Half-Time USA, I'm sure they do it other palces besides Ohio). We did pre-game and everything then a bunch of other marching bands did their shows. It was so fun. We were all singing along with songs we know and yelling for the other bands. Then afterwards we all put away our instruments and about seven bands stayed back to do drum wars. The schools would take turns playing drum parts (sorry can't thnk of the word) and their band, atleast who stayed, would do their cadences or just dance around. It was what really made me fall in love in marching band.
(2) Our Band's Humor; One day in music rehersal I can just remember us all laughing our heads off. Showers (Our BD) was getting on the trumpets for not know their part and our trombone sections leader just yells out "OR SHE'LL CUT YOU!" (Long Story short we were on the feild and one section was messing up. So showers yelled out 'If you mess up again I'll cut you!' Of course she meant from the show but oh well). After we all started laughing, we were all joking around and it was just so fun but my ribs ached.
(3) Sectionals; From our fst sectionals at band camp, I loved them. I play bass clarinet, but our low woodwinds are part of the low brass group, and the trombone section leader, DJ was leading it. Well, DJ cusses and lot and he's hilarious. We were at the middle school and there may have been some -ahem- mild vadilization of agenda books for the 8th graders and some general goofing off and then Showers just walks in "I've been outside the door for fivminutes and all I've heard is cussing and laughing. Get to work." Then she shuts the door. About two minutes later we all burst out laughing I could go on and on about sectionals XD

This year, I almost quit marching band a few times (blame some of the people in color guard rolleyes ). On Saturday, it was my college's homecoming game. After we finished the end of the show (which was Thriller. The dance may have just been for the Homecoming game performance since it was never part of our show), everyone just high fived each other because of how well the show went. Everyone was cheering really loudly for us even when we were just marching onto the field for the halftime show. What really made everything worth it was the e-mail that the band director sent us. I'm only showing part of the e-mail and I'm editing out my school's initials (even though my school isn't the only school with those initials).
What you have done this year is truly an amazing feat!
You began as a band that had never performed together. You are a band that has constantly fought adversity and struggles. You are a band that has matured into one of the true shining stars of [college's initials]. You are a band that I am unbelievably honored to say I am the director.
What you did at today's football game was by far one of the most memorable experiences in my musical career. Thank you for constantly raising your level of performance and excellence. Each and every one of you is very special to the overall success of the [college's initials] Marching Band.
My college has never had a marching band before, which explains some of the things in the e-mail.

Marching band ended, and I am sad, b/c of all these moments~ Being a Freshman during this time was totally worth it!
1. In like the first week of band camp, we had "story time", which is where we sit around and listen to our awesome teacher talk; but instead, our three drum majors started a game! We played "Hi, My Name Is Joe" and it was so hilarious, b/c our drum majors are hilarious! Lia, one of the drum majors, was doing the main part, and she was wearing a ski cap...Paul and Devon were "back-up" and were waving their arms around! 2. Sectionals, were too hilarious! In our second sectional, we were in like the second floor and the tenors were trying to scare us, so Bailey and Brandon (sophmores) were checking things out, and me, Nick, Harrison, Michelle, Maddy, and Kashish just ditched them. We were running and laughing, our saxophones awkwardly at our sides, and we ran right into them, and they were giving us WTF faces, and we all felt so idiotic. God I love my section XD. 3.At the end of band camp, we had this first performance of our show for the parents, and then we had "the march-off" Our band director called out commands, and people were tapped out when a person saw their mistakes. Dropping like flies they were! Soon, gaps were made, so we reformed marching block. My section leaders were high-fiving me, junior and senior both, and my junior section leader, Harrison, he exclaimed "You are the last saxophone left!" Then, later, I got to speak in a microphone to the whole audience when there were five people left, and he exclaimed again "She's the last freshman, and the last saxophone!" God that was awesome! 4. Freshmen Kill Day, oh joy. I spent the whole day worried that I would be "killed" and at the end of the day I thought "that was disappointing"...and then I went to band class. First thing that happens, I am talking to a friend, then my senior section leader NIck(I knew this afterwards that it was him) put his hand over my mouth, and ninja slashed my neck with black marker. Then he comes from behind me doing his signature evil laugh (signature, because he does it at least, what 5 times a day!!?? smile 5. This was after one of our competitions, like 3rd or 4th, and we were on the bus, and we were all soaked. In our competition, when we got on the field, it started to rain, and then we marched, and then as SOON as we started to play, it went BOOM and it poured so hard! And the only time it rained that night was for 10 minutes, in our performance. It was one of the most BOSS moments, we were like "yeah, we're wet, what of it?" So anyway, on the bus, I will never forget this as long as I live. I asked her, how did she feel about the performance, and she responded like this. "I wasn't really paying attention, I was just thinking, I'm Wet, I'm Cold, TRUMPETS YOU'VE FINALLY GOT IT!" And she was doing the conducting movements as she was saying this, and to boot we had a competition the day after this one so we had to air dry our uniforms! 6. When we were walking onto the field for our last football game half-time show of the season, we started spinning every 10 yards, and then when we lined up, starting doing "the birdie" 7. Right before our state competition, our section leader, who is a senior, congratulated us on a great season, how he really like our section, and how he was glad that even if the band was bad, at least our section was awesome, and then he named all our ethnicities XD. "We shall be Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Seductive, American..."etc. etc. And he kept whining beforehand, because the sophomores were late and not paying attention, that this was his "senior moment".
Of course there is more, like how our senior section leader throughout the football season starting annoying me by making a Mickey Mouse voice and talking and going "Ho ho!", or how there were so many ginger jokes (and Russian jokes, especially against me). But these three were the big ones!!!!!!!
If there is more, that I remember, or more that happen, I shall tell!

I had so many moments this year. I'm a junior and this is my fourth year in marching band, and I'm so in love with it. <3 <3 <3
1. The day I switched from alto saxophone section leader to drumline (Bass 2). It was probably one of the best experiences. I was accepted so quickly and with such warmth, and I now have an amazing bond with the eight others in it with me. <3 This year, they were my family, and I hurt anyone who insults them.
2. Band camp. Band camp was in August, and the hottest week of the whole summer. I live in Western New York, in a town/village outside of Buffalo, so hot for us is 80s and higher. Band camp this year was an interesting experience. I was just learning to march with a bass drum, so I was learning something different from what I've done the past three years. Tommy (he's 19, he worked with our drumline, and he's awesome) joined our staff and he was an amazing teacher, even though he's only a few years older than I. I also memorized all my music and learned what it really meant to be in a section. Aaaaaand, I was named bass drum section leader during band camp, even though Noah (who plays Bass 5 and was in it last year) had "seniority" (I'm a year above him in school). And I loved it.
3. The football games. I had to relearn stand cheers (seeing as I played saxophone the past three years), but everyone was great. Racheal (Bass 3, who became a fast friend) and I had the best times in the stands. She's awesome.
4. The competitions. I always tried to be satisfied with my performance, even if no one else was. I, and the rest of the bass line, had made a signifigant improvement throughout the season, and it was great to watch the improvements along the way. Hanging out with drumline before and after the compeitions were always fun, they're the best group to hang out with.
5. States. New York State Field Band Conference Championships. States for short. It was amazing. It was my first time performing at the Dome (the Carrier Dome in Sryacuse) on drumline, and it was an amazing experience. Now, don't get me wrong, saxophone is an amazing insturment, but bass drum is so much better. Holding the band together at the bottom, along with the sousaphones and the rest of the drumline, it's simply amazing. The sound of the first drum hit bouncing back at you from the roof was just awesome. We had an amazing performance. Though most of the band (myself included) thought we'd get third, we actually placed first for the first time in the history of our school. We've always been up there, in third or second place, but this year...man, I am damn proud to be in marching band.
6. I remember standing on the field last last sunday (10/30/11) and being so nervous. I was shaking so bad and shivering and I was biting my lip so hard that I almost made myself bleed. We were at the retreat, and they started calling Large School 2, the division my school is in .Sixth place, not us. Small breath of relief. Fifth place, again, not us, but our main competition, small dance of excitement. Fourth place, surely us...nope. Breath. Third place, definitely us...guess not!!! The band that kicked our butts by only a fifth of a point...HA. Another happy dance. Big breath, close eyes, cross fingers, start jumping up and down being so nervous. Second place, "with an 89.5...from Baldwindsville, New York...THE BALDWINDSVILLE BEES." I start to cry. A waterfall pours down my face. IT'S NOT US. HOLY s**t, WE GOT FIRST!!!!! And finally, our school is called for first place. All the parents and friends in the stands are cheering and crying, staff on the field is crying, drum majors and guard "section leader" accepting the trophy and plaque are shaking with excitement and shock and joy. Most of the band on the field is crying and hugging and cheering at the top of their lungs. I think the band next to us thought we were crazy. All of us are running around hugging each other so hard. Rob, the guy who runs drumline who no one likes and is pretty rude, came up and hugged me, thanking me for joining drumline. My friend, who took place as alto section leader when I left, came up, picked me up and spun me around, crying as hard as I was (best hug ever). One of the staff, a teacher that I've known since second grade, came up and hugged me (crying) and told me that I was an amazing person, and he's so grateful I switched to drumline. Now, I probably sound like a snob at this point, but I was just so damn happy and excited and wow...it was an amazing experience, getting first place. I hope we will next year, I really do.
I have to say that this season was one of the best. Last year and the previous two don't even compare. I love band. :]

Well, let's begin, I will not be going in chronological order
1) Seeing your Drum Major cry after a performance
2) random things a specific person in my band does
3) Band camp. So many fun things, even if our band has to run 2 mi a day.
4) And i must say, if I didn't join marching band, I wouldn't be the fun loving prankster I am today, so thank you marching band
