One of the most important things to do when learning something new is to relate it back to something relevant to the stuff you like(otherwise it ends up as shoebox knowledge). One of the most popular ways to help make the stuff stick is something called a mnemonic device(little bits of association used to help link the new info with something familiar), like when someone wants to remember how to pronouce the Japanese world for blues, Aoi, and link the word to Maui, known for it's crystal blue shores. Currently I'm studying up on them to pass the wisdom on to those I teach other languages so, and it left me wondering: what ways do you prefer to make the studies of Japan link back to things relevant to you?

I do just what you do! xD

We're learning about health issues in class right now, and my friends couldn't remember "(to) have an injury" (けがを する).

So I told them remember to be careful at a kegger (kega), 'cause you might get an injury by hitting your head on the "kega". And it works for all of us! : )
