Baki watched the fox. He bared his teeth, while trying to stay where he was. He figured his sister would kill him if he did anything to her mate, but it didn't stop him from a scare. "Riku is our father. And he just might have to step away from his tribe when he hears about you." The grin he gave was not friendly this time.
He actually started to laugh at the thought. His father might not care what Amaidi thinks. "I am not sure I am going to let you go back to her right now. We need to chat some more."

Mercury tilted his head. "Oh," he asked, voice mild. "I would be sorry to hear that, since it would make no difference if he left his tribe or not. We were planning to go to him, it seems an awful waste of time."
Everything in Mercury's voice and posture was mild and disarming. He wasn't too much of a brawler, but he had long since discovered that others felt ridiculous staying in a high temper if the other fox remained cool-headed.
"Hmmm, I would assume that as she is your sister. I fear I will act the same with Momma finds a mate." He sighed. "Would you like to walk as we talk then? I find it always helps to be in moving."

Baki stared dumbfounded at his sister's... mate. "I don't mean he would come finding you. He might behave rudely, even though he loves the tribe." He stepped towards the other fox, not fully letting his guard down, but figured it would be better than sitting there glaring. "I am willing to listen to what you have to say, but that doesn't change how I feel."

Mercury turned around and started walking back in the direction he had come. He kept his pace slow and easy, the stroll of someone who had forever.
He was wondering what he could possibly say to his brother-in-law. He knew no matter how well he defended his case that there would always be the brotherly protectivness. Only time would help the family warm up to Mercury's presence.
"Tell me, Baki," Mercury said abruptly in the quiet, "have you ever been in love? I don't mean a temporary fling. I mean meeting someone that's just so-," he paused, unable to find a word that fit with what he meant. 'Perfect' or 'wonderful' didn't seem strong enough. He decided to let the blank just sit there. "-that you can't concieve not spending the rest of your life with them?"

He couldn't understand his sister. Why did she need a mate so soon? It's not like they had explored the world while kits or even adults. How could she know that this was the one? So deep in thought he almost didn't hear Mercury ask the question.
Baki shook his head to clear his thoughts. "Love? I only know two females, my mother and sister. Neither of which I would want to spend the rest of my life with." He couldn't believe where this was going. Talking about love with a stranger who was his brother-in-law? He sighed and continued walking with the other male.

Mercury turned his head to the side to look at Baki, first checking to make sure he wouldn't run into a tree or off a hill. Don't laugh, it had happened before! "When you do find the one, it'll all suddenly make sense." He chuckled, ducking his head a little bashfully. He wasn't one for teaching or lecturing, but he really hoped that he could get along with his new brother. For Amaidi's sake, if nothing else, but truth be told Mercury was hoping for once he could get along with another male. He seemed to have horrible luck in pissing off anything with a Y chromosome.

Baki shook his head. The whole love thing was strange to him. His father tried to tell him about it, but also said 'make sure you are ready and that they are the right one.' Maybe that was what Mercury was saying, just in different words. "If you say so. I still don't like the fact she couldn't talk to the rest of us."

"Well we did plan to hunt down her parents, at the very least her father and let them know. I assume she meant to find you as well or have your parents pass on the word." Mercury looked a little sheepish for a moment. "I don't think either of us expected family to be so close, but my luck just seems to work out like that at times."

"With her being the only sister, it is easy to get protective of her." He thought about how close the family really was. He hadn't seen most of them since they grew up. Baki shrugged, "We might not be as close as you think, but we do love each other."
He looked over at his, shudders inside, brother-in-law. Maybe Mercury wouldn't be so bad after all, but he would keep an eye on him just in case.

"I meant it in more of a physical sense, but I suppose my wording could have been construted to mean emotional," Mercury said, laughing. His golden eyes were warm and still crinkled with laughter as he continued. "I wouldn't worry too much about her though. Out of the two of us Amaidi can wipe the floor with my tail just about any day." Not that he wasn't protective of his mate; that was just how the order of dominance went in their relationship.
