I'm getting mine out as soon as I can get an appointment, as I should have done so a while ago and they are hurting me. Not looking forward to the pain but am looking forward to the liquid diet xd I gained 7 freakin pounds since my summer job as a bike patroller ended 7 weeks ago. Even though I spent a whole week biking 50k a day about 2 weeks ago. If I hit 140lbs I will officially freak out. Not that it's a horrible weight, but I have managed to stay below that for 6yrs and do not want that to stop now.

Back on topic though, I finally got an appointment, my teeth are getting yanked out Jan 5th. All four, but the bottoms are the only ones that need it. Should I say I wana keep the top in? The dentist wants to take em out cause supposedly they're hard to clean confused He also wants me on antibiotics like 4hrs before the surgery. He says he does it for everyone but it's especially beneficial for ppl like me wit a heart murmur. Again, is this really necessary? And the only pain killers he prescribed are some high dose advils. Cause they also reduce swelling. Should I bother with those?

Yes, listen to the dentist.
You do need those antibiotics before oral surgery (I have a murmur, too.).
Yes, they will be a pain to clean and cause trouble, not only for themselves but also for the teeth in front of them. I wish I had had mine removed before I did. I didn't realize how crowded it was back there, even with a little kid's toothbrush I couldn't get them really clean, and forget cleaning the very back---there was just no way.
Yes, you will need something for pain and swelling. I always use aspirin, but I'm older than you are---don't know if there is still a risk of reye's syndrome for you. Don't forget the ice!

I'd take both the antibiotics and the ibuprofen. That's what I did take when I had mine out. Aspirin or white willow bark or whatever is fine as well, but remember it increases bleeding. Sometimes I am not opposed to mainstream medicine and in that case those two things should be fine for short-term use. You don't ever want to risk infection, and infection in the mouth can easily pass to the heart.

sunsetsmile (Wouldn't it simplify life if we could just check everyone's mouth for their I.Q.? Then decide if they're worth listening to, or not?) Love it! blaugh I still have all four of mine, but they never came in. Got lucky- my dentist told me they can stay right where they are and I will probably never have a problem. He said I could have them removed if I really wanted though lol.

I was just curious about antibiotics because the day after my consult with my dentist, I had a checkup with a doc who was talking to me about my murmur and said it's been discovered that the same amount of bacteria you lift when you brush your teeth is present for a dental surgery and so now people are using antibiotics for dental surgery less and less. Also, antibiotics do tend to kill good bacteria too. The ibuprofein, I'm generally pretty good with pain. I would only consider it to reduce swelling but isn't ice enough? And ibuprofein has been known to destroy your stomach lining.

Neither one of those things are going to hurt you short-term, and having your wisdom teeth removed exposes you to bacterial risks that your system isn't used to. I just don't risk it. Yogurt and probiotics are easy to come by.

Maybe it's safe to post this now, without upsetting anyone----
I talked to a dental hygienist the other day, who said that their office was totally paperless. They take your picture for I.D.....
A middle eastern man came in for emergency treatment. New patient. When they told him they would need his picture to confirm his I.D. for insurance purposes, he left.
You all live far from me, but you need to know that strange things happen everywhere.
