"We insist on giving you something!" Mizu's father seemed quite determined to repay Kali, as did his mother, who nodded in agreement. "That may be the truth, but we owe you our son's life." At Kali's question, the couple looked at each other, seeming to have some form of silent discussion. It seemed that a decision was reached, because the couple finally turned to look back at Kali.
"That should be fine. Your cousin is just as welcome in our home as you are." After all, a cousin of the girl who'd saved their son couldn't have been too bad. Of course, Lance was a different story; the boy looked less than safe, what with all of his piercings and his strange clothes. They didn't want him anywhere near their boy...but Kali hadn't asked for him to come along, so that wasn't an issue. "We'll pay you even; I'm sure that a girl your age could use it."

"Oh, it wasn't just me. Lance helped too." She smiled over at the pierced boy. "If he hadn't been there...well, it would have been bad." She resisted the temptation to reach over and squeeze his cheek.
She didn't really know what they expected her to do. What could she ask for? Money? They'd already said they would pay her to watch Mizu. And she couldn't think of anything else. Besides. She didn't want anything.
"That sounds good, though. Me watching Mizu." she smiled. "Thanks..."

"Well...thank you too, Lance." Despite the thanks, Lance wasn't too sure about how glad Mizu's parents were about the news that he'd helped. They probably didn't want him anywhere near their kid - when he'd been younger, he probably would have been insulted. However, he'd come to learn that this was what happened when you chose to stick bits of metal in your face. He didn't really care much anymore.
"No problem."
The hours ticked by slowly; Lance tried to spend most of them talking with Kali, trying not to think of how Mizu may be doing. He wanted the kid to be alright. The same could be said for Cain and Kouki, though the feelings were especially in the latter. Luka and Cain had managed to calm him down, but that didn't change the fact that Kouki was horribly worried for his host.
Finally, a nurse came in with news.
"He's stable, and we'll just be keeping him here for the night to recover. He asked if he could be put in the same room as you for now though, and wanted to know if you would mind." The nurse was clearly addressing Kali when she came to the final part.

"Not at all." Kali said, smiling at the nurse. "I'd be glad to have a room mate." She was glad to hear that he was okay, and was sure that Kouki was glad too.
She was also glad to have Lance there. He was a comforting presence, almost surprisingly. She hadn't really expected that.
Looking down at Katia, she realized how late it was getting.
"She needs to go home..." She said softly. "Lance, could you pass me the phone? I have to call my Uncle...he'll come get her."
She realized that eventually Lance would have to leave too, whether by choice or because visiting hours would be over. She was being, apparently, held overnight for observation also.
Seems like she and Mizu were in the same boat, for now.

"Yeah, no problem." Lance got to his feet just as the nurse left the room - probably to go fetch Mizu. The young man quickly brought her the phone and took a seat next to her again. He knew that he'd have to leave soon enough, as visiting hours would be over soon, but he'd have to head back to the apartment. Maybe he'd come in the morning to give Kali a ride home though...
Within a few minutes, a couple nurses came in with Mizu and soon, the boy was in the bed next to Kali's. Miraculously, he wasn't hooked up to any machines to help with his breathing, which meant that he was probably doing much better. As soon as he was able to, Kouki flew over to his host, floating next to the bed. "La, lalala! La!" He hugged Mizu around the next, a gesture which the boy returned carefully.
"T-Thank you for helping me..." the impling teen said to both Kali and Lance, his voice still somewhat raspy and weak. "I didn't...mean to scare you all."
"Hey, we're just glad to see that you're okay, kid." Lance smiled to the younger boy, who nodded in turn as his shadow took a seat next to him and snuggled up against a blue-furred arm.

"It's not like you chose to do it..." Kali smiled at Mizu, watching as Luka zipped up from their bed to snuggle his feet and suck on his fingers for half a minute. Then, he patted his head, and returned to Katia, reassured that the impling boy was alright.
She turned away for a moment to call her uncle. It took some doing to convince him that everything and everyone was alright, especially Katia. He told her he was on his way, and they both hung up.
"My uncle is coming to get Katia...I should go meet him at the door..." But she didn't know if she could. Would she be able to walk? She still felt pretty tired...
