For years I've prayed for my Uncle Nathan, my dad's brother. He had it rough, growing up with divorced parents. Dad is 10 years older than my uncle, so he was already old enough to avoid some of those family problems... Uncle Nathan was pushed away from Christianity for a few reasons: pressure, heartbreak, influences, and he surrounded himself with people who were already extremely skeptic of the faith. Now he's married, and he's one of the funniest and most loving guys I know, but he's still very lost. For a long time he went into deep frustrating debates with my dad, and he still does. He accuses today's Christianity for past mistakes, using every stereotype we know. He uses names, not even trying to understand. He says he is, he says he listens, but his heart blocks everything... we love him, we want him to understand.
Recently Dad said he's finally asking himself about those hard questions he's been avoiding, the ones everyone has to encounter: Why am I here? What is the purpose to this world? Does it all really matter? He's starting to see how depressing it is, the idea that there is nothing after life, that everything we work to achieve does nothing for our souls after death...that is if there's no God to bring us some place new.
I always pray that he finds his way, that his inner turmoil is resolved and that God helps him find peace in his soul. He is so lost, he's trying to find a path, and I pray he finds his way back to you, God.

Oh my goodness. That is sad for him to feel that way. I pray he finds a way out of the darkness and into the light.

True atheism leads a very dark, lonely path.
I will pray for him.
Do you know about the Cosmological and Teleological arguments?

I'm not sure.... I might have heard the arguements, just not the technical names for them...

There are a few arguments implemented for the existence of God. Originally there were four, but one of them was dropped.
Popularly, there are three that are used. I, however, personally stick only with two. Those arguments are the Cosmological and Teleological arguments.
The cosmological points to the universe's beginning and how it cannot be infinite/eternal because of its outward expansion and the fact that it is wasting away.
The teleological argument points to the creation of organisms because of their complexities. It does not necessarily discount evolution, but rather points out the problems with non-God evolution.
I can talk to you about them a little more in a pm if you'd like.
