Hacking-Hacking is the unauthorized access of ones account by someone not the account ownerMethods: Password crackers-computers used to figure out passwords Forced Hackings- the hacker figures out your password due to having an easy to guess password or method listed above Database hackings- Gaia it's self is hacked, not common at all. Key loggers- programs that install when you go to pages, usually without the user knowing it. They log everything someone types. Run an anti-virus to make sure you don't get one.
PhishingThe act/method of trying to get another users password. Methods: Fake log in pages- Look very close to actual gaia pages. Do not be tricked, if the url is not www.gaiaonline.com do not log into it. Pop-ups- Boxes that appear in forums and on profiles that ask for passwords claiming they are a bot check requested by some other site. Gaia Online has no such bot checking programs. Staff Impersonation- Someone claiming to be staff demanding users passwords usually claiming someone has done something wrong. Staff impersonation guide. If anyone, even Lanzer himself asks for your passwords report them. Gaia staff will never need your password for anything.
Note: The only places you should ever enter your password is to log in, market place, trades, and the mod application. No where else should ever ask for it. ScamsTricking another user into losing an item, cheating them out of an item or not paying someone for a contest. Methods: Items switched out in trades, just check your trades Offering item in a trade via gifting (don't do this) Not paying for arts or other such things.

How to avoid being phished/hacked: Do not give out your password to anyone.
Do not enter your password anywhere other then to places where the url begins: http://www.gaiaonline.com/ -You can log in at the forums like I do, but be sure that url begins with gaiaonline.com
Do not log in at 'towns' as that url is harder to see.
Make sure the 'you are leaving' gaia page is turned on, don't enter your password when you go past it, even if it looks like part of Gaia (if it asks for it.)
What do phishers do? -Usually they remove gold/items from accounts then use them to phish other users. -They can also hack and ditch the accounts when the pass is disabled . I can't say to much due to rules on this however

Yes. One.
I don't remember the exact link that it was when I was hacked but I SWORE it looked exaclty like a Gaia login page. So I assumed I got kicked off.
Was a key logger possibly used for that?

Chances are it was something like 'GaiaonIine' Gaia0nline, or something like that where the url looked close to it.
ripway removed the url so I can't tell now.
They can make logins look just like gaia, pay attention to that url on top. I can't post any of them here since they usually are active phishing sites.
Tinyurl has a feature where you can preview a url before you go to it, you can turn that on and if it says 'ripway' don't go to it.

Okay. SO I look at the url carefully.
Now what is Tinyurl exactly?
I've seen it with many for when I play in the Booty Grab forums with the Beta Users.
Like they have it sometimes just above their aquariums or such like that.

It lets you see what the url is before you go to it.
