Much easier than taking Spanish, I've noticed. And this's coming from someone who took 3 years of it. A lot of things are pretty funny. Like the number 555,555. Germans have a fun time spelling this word, because all of their written numbers are in one whole sentence. Or pronouncing it for that matter:
555,555 fünfhundertfünfundfünfzigfünftausendfünfhundertfünfundfünfzig Or fünfhundert fünf und fünfzig fünftausend fünfhundert fünf und fünfzig
Translations: fünf = 5 und = and fünfhundert = 500 fünftausend = 5,000 and fünfzig = 50

I picked up Spanish pretty quickly. Which is weird, considering the fact that German is supposedly closer to English than the other European languages.
