After two attempts (between last night and this try), I made it! Last night's attempt (Guide- Edmund; Ship- Titan; Food- 300; Ammo- 150; Loot- 300) ended with one crew member left alive for half the trip, only to die by chasing a moth off of the ship with just two landmarks to go. And that's with taking both shortcuts.
This trip (same as above, but with the Kestrel as opposed to the Titan) went significantly better. I still lost a crew member to a moth, but that was the only one lost this time. Turns out 150 ammo and 300 food was a good idea on my part- including the time or two I traded for additional ammo, I ended with 3 ammo and more than enough food to last me a couple hundred more miles.
Final Stats: 1,540 points
Prize: Frontier Skies Water Medal
Now I suppose it's time for me to attempt it with other guides...

I've been trying out with some of the other guides. After an annoying failure with my last remaining crew member committing suicide via moth 20 miles from the demigod, it's actually been going pretty well. I've completed it twice more, with Louie and Edmund, and received the Shadow and Water medals. Good stuff.

This event takes way to much time and work, it's very boring..
As soon as I saw it was about spending hours tending to a floating ship I got bored.

i only had one more land mark.....and then i got sick (i was the last remaining person alive) and the rest of my food was spoiled crying

Whew. Done with that, and I'm not sorry to have it behind me.
Though you know... I kind of thought that beating it with all five guides might have an achievement tied to it. If not this, then what were they doing with the achievements the other day?
Oh, right. Carl gives the Earth Medal... As most of you who have been following this have probably worked out on your own.

This game only made me hate moths more than I already did.
Am I correct in assuming that you'll always encounter the moth?
